Okay, maybe a funny question, but we are planning a trip for Sept 2004 with my friend and her son who will be 7 then and he has Down Syndrome. My daughter will be almost three and we are thinking of getting her a dress for the breakfast. Do boys ever dress up as prince charming or any other character? Would that be too weird? My friend's son LOVES Disney and everything about it and I know would LOVE to dress up as a character (he's always dressing up as Santa at home..so cute!)...esp. if my daughter is. But I've never heard of a boy doing this. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I don't have an answer for you, but am interested in knowing as well.

I got my dd (age 3) a Cinderella dress to wear. Ds (4) asked where his costume was. I tried to explain why I didn't get him one, but he was very disappointed.

DD & Ds came to me later and told me ds wants to be Prince Charming. I have searched for a costume on the internet, but haven't found one.

Has anyone ever seen one for small children at Disney World?

If I can't get one, I am going to try to find someone to make one for him. As of now, he really wants to dress up too.

Our Disney Shops (in the UK), have some really cool boys costumes at the moment, I've seen Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Woody, Buzz, Mickey (the Mickey one is REALLY cute!), I would let him dress up, especially if the little girl will be dressing up, and he likes to wear dress-up clothes anyway. I am only guessing, but if we can get boys costumes here, then they must surely be available in the States too.

I don't think many boys dress up, but I don't think anyone would think it was strange or odd, and all the CMs would makea lovely big fuss. The only thing I would suggest is a change of clothes for after the meal, as those costumes arent' the most comfortable for all day.

I just bought my son (who will be two for our October trip) the Prince Phillip costume at the Disney Store. I actually liked the Captain Hook costume better but he wouldn't let go of the Prince Phillip costume (I think it was all the sparkles that made him pick that one). Originally I bought it as his Halloween costume for MNSSHP but then it dawned on me that it would be also be perfect for breakfast at the castle. So my little guy will definately be dressing up for his visit to the castle!!

What a great idea! DD then 4 dressed for Cindy's dinner at GF. It really made the whole night magical for her. I'd let DS 1 dress up, knowing him he'd want to go as Stich (he's awfully good at trying to walk on ceilings).
On our last trip in Jan I noticed that children who were in princess costumes got a little extra treatment by the CM's, they usually called them princess when greeting them.

Let us know how it went

The last time we had breakfast there Wendy was one of the "Princesses" - I think a little boy would be adorable as Peter Pan!

If your friend's son likes to dress up, then you should definitely let him. I just checked the Simplicity web site ... they had patterns for a knight, Capt. Hook and Peter Pan ... no Prince Charming though.

I've been trying to convince my GS (8) to wear the Peter Pan costume I made for his mom, so I can dress his sister up as Tink, but he absolutely refuses!

This is too funny. I just saw the Prince Phillip costume at the Disney Store yesterday and was thinking the same thing. My DS loved the costume, and I thought it would be great for him to wear it at CRT breakfast (if we can get in). My DD fell in love with the princess costumes, and I thought it would be cute to have them both dress up for the breakfast.

Great! Thanks everyone! I'm so glad. I hadn't mentioned anything to his mother yet in case it wouldn't work out (and the trip is 14 months away!!! and my friend has never been to WDW so she's not quite the fanatic that I am! ha!) But I just called her and asked her about it and said that her son would be SO excited about dressing up. And the cool thing is the costume could be used again for halloween that year...bonus!

We went to CRT when DD was 4 and DS was 7. I packed her Belle dress and threw in a generic prince cape for my son, just in case. Good move as it happened, because he definitely wanted to wear it. All of the princesses referred to him as "prince" and they both really enjoyed the character breakfast. After breakfast they both changed and I carried around the costumes in a green garbage bag lashed to my backpack. (I know, I know, but the lockers seemed too far away when Fantasyland is right outside the castle door).

I think dressing up will make your meal even more special.

DRESSING UP IS FUN FOR EVERY ONE! We have eaten at Cindy's twice in the last six months, we all dressed up in some form or fashion. The girls wore their princess dresses ( even had an 11 year old niece who wore her sister's prom dress), the boys wore their capes and we all had our crowns on! On the second trip I had purchased some great "kingly" crowns at a local party store. I forgot them in the room on the morning of our breakfast. Luckily, the store right under the castle had some crowns on sale for $1.50! We wore our crowns for most of the day at the Magic Kingdom.

I will have to check out our Disney Store for the Prince Phillip costumes. I did not see them there when I bought dd's Cinderella costume. If not, he would probably like Peter Pan too. Thank you for the info!

My (then 3.5 yr. old) DS wore his Buzz Lightyear costume when we ate at CRT, and all of the princesses made a big fuss over him! I'd definitely say "go for it," but it doesn't need to be a "prince" type costume!
