Does anyone put special thought into what they are going to be wearing to Chef Mickeys because of the family picture taken before the meal?

Last summer, I had everyone dressed better than the average park day - golf shirts for the boys, dresses for the girls, all in red, white or blue - kinda an All-American theme. The picture turned out better than I could ever imagined.

This year I am having a hard time(and time is running out) trying to cordinate our outfits for our dinner pictures. It is one of the few pictures of the whole family that we get.

Just wondering if I am the only crazy one out there?

The first time we ate at Chef Mickey's, I had NO IDEA they took a family picture first. We had taken the boat over from FW in a torrential downpour. Once we got to CM's, we were SOAKED and looked like "you know what"...

Well, they took the picture and we bought it...and we still talk about how wet we were then (actually, the whole trip because it poured every day!)

Last time we were there, we didn't buy the picture because my ds5 had his eyes closed. It just didn't come out good. Oh well, maybe next time!

And to answer your question...No, I never gave much thought to dressing us up...but that IS a good idea!!:p

Just to let you know that you are not the only crazy one!! We went to the Poly Luau on our last trip and my Mom insisted everyone wear a hawaiian shirt, even the 2 year old. Well, the picture with all the brite colors came out great!! It's a wonderful picture that stays on the fridge.
Maybe you could dress the kids in all the same color, red is a good color for Chef Mickey. Also, at the Living with the Land in Epcot there is the Nestle Jr. Chef program and last year they gave out free chef hats to the kids. That would be so cute if they all had hats on. Good luck

Coordinating outfits is a good idea. We never put much thought into it, until now! The pictures are great keepsakes and are on my refigerator. I enjoy seeing how my nice and nephew have grown since their first trip in 2001. That year they were barely taller than the fork and spoon, in 2002, they were a whole head taller than the fork and spoon and last year the fork and spoon came up to the middle of their chests. Can't wait to see what this year brings.

and wear coordinating outfits ALOT when on vacation... it started as a "safety" thing... if a kid got lost and someone said "what was he/she wearing" you could just point to yourself and say "THIS!" but then it sorta blossomed...

for our upcoming trip i have already purchased four matching disney tee shirts... sil sent us four matching old navy tee shirts... and i purchased matching shirts for dd/i from disney and matching for ds/dh, which coordinate w/ours... PLUS (stop laughing now!) a friend is making us nice matching outfits for the family from a great navy/white hibiscus fabric... halter dress for dd, shorts for dh and ds, and blouse/capris for me... w/bandana for dd's hair, purses for both of us girls... this will be the outfits we get the family portrait taken in... can you say "clothes geek?!"

;)

Thank you. Well it doesn't look like there are many of us - but at least I know I'm not alone.

Gigi -
Most of our clothes are co-ordinating not totally matchy-matchy. Expect for DDs - 5 & 2 yrs old - they are going to be quite matchy.
What a nice friend you have making you the matching clothing, although I doubt I could get DH to wear shorts like that. I have to be more subtle when dressing him - he co-ordinates with us without know it - LOL! Walmart has some awesome tie-dye shirts but since I couldn't get sizes for everyone I passed on them. We will all be wearing our 2004 Mickey shirts our first day and the boys have tropical shirts for AK.

I found some patriotic colored shirts for this trip again for the boys and some cute red/white/blue outfits for the girls. I even found a sparkly t-shirt on sale at JCPenny for myself. So we are all set for dinner with Mickey.

Crossing my fingers everyone will have their eyes open in the picture. We are going to head over to MK for fireworks and parades after dinner so maybe if the picture at CM doesn't turn out(and nobody got too messy at dinner) then we could try for a picture in front of the castle.

I had no idea they take pictures there. Do they do this at every character meal? When are you given the chance to buy the pictures & how much do they cost?

I know they do this at CM and at Hoop-de-do. I am not sure where else this is done.

They do it right after you check in for dinner. The pictures are printed right away and during dinner someone came to the table with the package. I was getting the children's plates so DH bought them without me knowing. When I got back to the table he said the pictures turned out great so I bought the whole package. We got 2 5X7s with a Chef Mickey mat around the pictures, 4 wallets size and one(maybe two) fridge magnets. Also inculded in the package was a picture of Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale, Goofy and Donald - the whole gang from CM. It was really a nice package. If I remember correctly the package was $26. I think you could buy less if you wanted.

they do it at Donald's Breakfastosaurus too but not at Crystal Palace.

We all wore Mickey shirts. :) We didn't buy the pic they took b/c our kids were being less than cooperative (note to photographers....2 and 4 year old boys will not look at you and smile when they are seeing a monorail zoom into the Contemporary for the first time! Don't even try!!! :p ) but our family pic with Mickey turned out quite well!

I was able to just buy a 5x7 in the mat frame. I don't remember exactly how much it was but I will say $10-12 dollars. I don't usually buy the ride pictures, etc., but we all looked so good (well, as good as we can look) that I couldn't resist.

We have matching shirts too. I bought us all the Disney logo shirts from TDS. This year I am going to make us each a Mickey Tie dye shirt. Plus, the girls each have a new shirt for each day of the trip. Last year my older DD had all Tinkerbell shirts and my younger DD had princess shirts. I had a variety of character shirts - mickey, eeyore, tink, etc. I even bought DH some grumpy shirts! One year at Christmas time, DH was wearing a grumpy shirt that said, "Happy to be Grumpy" and had a picture of Grumpy. I am not kidding, at least a dozen women came up to him and commented on his shirt and said they needed to buy one of those for their husband!! Even Snow White commented. It gave him a little bit of "Disney magic".

Now, I may have to amend my original plans. I bought everyone Aloha Mickey prints (I think that's what it's called) from disneystore online - shirts for guys, dresses for girls. I planned to make everyone wear them for our dinner at O'Hana's. But, maybe I should switch to Chef Mickey's?? :confused3

I have red matching Disney logo shirts, and blue ones too for everyone. I also made "family vacation 2004" ones for everyone with Disney characters using iron-on transfers. And, we all have a Mickey or character shirt- not the same, but kind of coordinated.

*sigh* I must have too much time on my hands.

I hate to admit this, but I coordinate with my fiance all the time, even when we're not on vacation. We don't wear Disney clothes and it isn't "matching" exactly, but I do try and coordinate complimenting colors, especially for events and parties (and of course on vacation). This year has been extremely difficult, since pink is the major theme of my wardrobe, but I still try. He has a fit and wishes I wouldn't do this, but it looks so nice in pictures. I hate to see couples clashing.;)

He always groans when I've coordinated us too much- like our AK day this year - he had his Burberry golf shirt on (white with Nova check on the placard of the shirt) and khaki shorts so I wore my mini Burberry golf shirt (more like a fitted polo) in pink with the Nova check placard and khaki skirt. I'm sure, deep down, he loved our coordination, even though he'd never admit it. I can't wait to have kids when I can take coordinating to a whole new level...

At MK this past week, I ran into a sweet family from England who were wearing matching "Tropical Mickey" outfits. The mom and daughter had on sundresses and the dad and son had on button down shirts. The mom told me they just came from breakfast at CM. I bet they had the cutest picture.:D
