Do your kids have "dress-up" days in school for homecoming or other occasions? Our kids have always had these. They have your typical days like pajama day, tie-dye/70's days, school colors day, etc. I was just reading an article about one school and one of their dress up days was "fake injury day" and kids came to school with "casts", crutches, etc. That is probably the most unique one I have ever seen. It was homecoming week this past week at our school ending tonight with the homecoming dance so our kids just did all their "dress up days".

We had a fake injury day once, most people just came with loads of band-aids though, because they didn't want to carry around crutches.

This year we are having a snuggie day.

We have 5 of any of the following: tacky day, pj day, hick day (this one is mostly at the high school and you get a lot of pipi longstocking hair on the girls and blacked out teeth), camo day, 70's day, 60's day, 50's day, school colors day, USM day (if their homecoming is close to ours), favorite jersey day, western day, inside out day, fantasy character day, (expecting a lot of Bella's and Edward's this year LOL).

The cheerleaders will choose 5 days several weeks before homecoming and then present the list to the principal for approval. Some years we get different stuff but the ones I listed are usually the standard.

At the high school, they have a week at homecoming and then will have other dress up days on other game days just depending on the team they are playing (hick day for instance is usually on the day they play one particular big rival).

They will have another set of dress up days during red ribbon week.

I had to laugh at this. When I was a kid a snuggie was what is now known as a wedgie. I had a picture of kids walking around school all day pulling other kids' undies. :lmao:

During home coming week. 60's day, 70's day, sports shirt day and so forth.

Our old school never did, but at her new school they will have them. One thing we are getting use to is no football team, they have their homecoming during basketball season in January.

DD was looking at some pictures from last year and she is really excited.

When I was in school we had dress up days every Friday of Football season and all 5 days of Homecoming. One year, I was in the cheerleader sponsor's class and she gave out 10 bonus points for dressing up. As I wasn't any great shakes as a student back then (Wasn't until I got to graduate school and actually studied for the first time, actually.) I needed the points and dressed up every single day. Somewhere my DD has pictures of me in all these get-ups. . .including an ace bandage, fake blood and a kerchief sling for injury day!

My kids' school has had variations of these for dress up days:

fake an injury
duct tape
decades (pick your decade and dress appropriately)
Superhero
Hillbilly
School Spirit
crazy hat
all sports - wear your favorite team stuff

Once, they tried to have a "thug life" or something like it - excess bling, grilles for teeth, sideways hat, etc.. but the principal said NO! I think Hip Hop would work, though.

It's homecoming week next week at our school. My dd has mentioned famous couples day and camo day. I know Friday each grade has to wear a certain color. My son is senior and has never done any of them except the grade color day, but my dd may be digging through some closets this weekend LOL.

We always had a 'twin day' as well where you and a buddy would dress alike.

Of course, we had the one kid that twinned himself and came in with 1/2 of the boys uniform and 1/2 and the girls uniform. :lmao:

YES! DS16's homecoming is this coming week. The THEME, you may ask? DISNEY!!

Monday is Disney Royalty Day (dress like a prince, princess, etc.) and Tuesday is Disney Character Day (Disney or Pixar -- can be a villain, too). DS is still figuring out what to do.

Wednesday and Thursday are non-disney, school/class color related, and there's no classes Friday.

Last year - DD's school had a "hollywood" theme for homecoming. One of the days was "Dress like a Celebrity" day. Two of the seniors dressed up like John and Kate. Each pushed a stroller all day with 4 babies. I understand this was hilarious!!!

Hmm..in years past we had:

-Character day [basically dress as anything you want]
-Sports fans day
-spirit day
-class day where freshman were babies, sophomores were clowns, Juniors were hillbillies, and seniors were royalty. Every year seniors are royalty :D
senior have a tradition where we wear our crowns and dress in togas

and tacky day!

DS just left for his senior homecoming. They did a cute dress out day Thursday. They did "salad dressing day" Seniors were Thousand Island, Juniors were French, Sophomores Italian, Freshmen Western.

These sound fun and interesting.. :goodvibes

What grades normally participate in all of these different "fake injury" days and such?

DD is a freshman. This week is "Spirit Week" leading up to Homecoming next Sat. Their themes are:

Monday Sports Day (Favorite Team)
Tuesday 50's Day
Wednesday Western
Thursday Class Color
Friday School sports team day or school colors.

Our kids have these spirit days as well. They have had twin day, superhero, jersey day, career day, and pj day. Well those are the ones I can remember. PJ day is hands down their favorite! :thumbsup2

every friday during football season is spirit day at dd's school. the school colors are 3 different colors so the freshman, sophmore and junior classes each have one assigned to them while the seniors wear all 3.

during spirit week (usualy coincides with homecoming) we've had robot day (this year it's sci-fi day), hippie day, western day, rockstar day (apparantly one of the teachers came in full gene simmons kiss regalia and makeup last year-a HUGE hit with the kids), and wounded day (after a couple of years i just started buying the "pre bloodied" guaze bandages they sell at halloween and putting them aside).

ds's school does a spirit week, they steer away from anything "controversial" (private christian) so no sci fi or rockstars. in the past they've included sports day, western day, career day, historical figure day, wounded day and nerd day.

i don't remember too much of this from my highschool days except in my junior year we had a clown day, and a friend got the bright idea to use green food coloring in her very blond hair. for the remainder of that school year she had green hair:scared1:

SALAD DRESSING DAY!

No, I 'm not kidding. DS came home friday and asked how in the world he is supposed to dress up for salad dressing day? He said a lot of boys were going to go as cowboys... AKA Ranch dressing.

I wouldn't have a clue how to do that either.
