Hi everyone.

I have a gorgeous ball gown style wedding dress a real fairytale dress. I had decided against a hoop underneath as I thought it was "pouffy" enough as it was. I have had it taken up (as the front was far too long) to the perfect length just touching the floor but I could walk properly in it. Anyway I have heard nothing but "I'm surprised you havent got a hoop"! After driving myself mad worrying about it I went down to the shop I bought my dress from and tried it on with a hoop. Yes it does look better and makes it even more princessy but now my dress is about an inch off the floor. You cant see my shoes but there is a definate gap (although it doesnt really show when I'm walking) My question is.... Is it ok to have a gap? Am I going to look silly? Has anyone else had their dress not touching the floor? Please help I'm so stressed about a dress that I was originally really pleased with!!

Thanks all

Well I had a ball gown as well and did not use the hoop skirt or any crinoline and this is how my dress looked and I think that this was perfect.

I think it's personal preference if it's going to bother you with your shoes showing too much then forget the hoop skirt.

wow lynn...your pics always take my breath away! I think its up to personal preference as well. I don't plan on using a hoop, maybe a soft crinny, but no hoops. And I don't think a small gap would be bad. :)

I don't think the small gap will be noticeable at all. I had a ballgown style as well and was against a hoop too, the boutique tried to convince me but I just went with the crinolines that were part of my dress. I think it was "perfectly poofy" ;)

Hi honey

I would not worry about the gap at all. I think i am in the same boat.
I decided to go bigger and have very large under skirt and the dress no longer touches the floor. I am now wearing flat shoes (this had nothing to do with dress i have to say) so that is an option for you. If not then the gap will be fine, like you say it makes them a lot easier to walk in. I have seen a video lately and the lady had to hold up her skirt while walking down the isle. Nothing at all wrong with that but i would rather not.....does that make any sense :rotfl:

I agree. I wouldn't worry. My dress was on sale because it was discontinued. Unfortunately, I'm super tall (6') and would have ordered an extra long had I been able to. But, since I had to buy it as is, I'm forced to wear flats and still there is a little bit of a gap... but I couldn't say no to a $250 dress! :confused3
