SRUAlmn- i am so glad there is someone just like me i have been putting it off for the same reasons!!!! Exactly!!!!! i keep saying as soon as i lose 10lbs i will go but that never seems to happen!!! and yes i think it would be worse for my mother to go in with me too. i am so weird like that. well here is some pixie dust for us to go get our dresses!!! i must say though i went to david bridals once and the woman gave me the long line bra and the skirt thingy and when i put them on i was covered all the way so i didnt mind, and she was out of the room while i put them on. good luck to you!!

So when does everyone recommend going dress shopping then? I was gonna go in March, 5 months or so before my wedding. I'm leaving it cause I want to lose weight, but even if I didn't I still don't think I'd be buying mine right now, I keep seeing more and more dresses I like!

That's one reason I have been waiting too. I am in the process of trying to lose about 75 pounds by July. I don't know how many sizes that would change me and I don't know how much it would cost to have it altered that much (or even if they could alter it that much.) I'm trying to lose 25-30 before I get my dress.

Well just a estimate, but my mom lost 83 lbs for her Disney Vow renewal. She went from a size 20 to a 8. So yeah it makes a huge difference.

Yeah, I was told that if you're dress has to be taken in too much it can affect the whole look of the dress. I don't see the point in buying it now in my size if I'm not gonna be this size by my wedding. I could potentially drop 4 sizes and there's no way the dress will look the same being altered that much.

Height matters, though. I can lose 40 pounds and 'maybe' change one pants size because I'm so tall and my weight is very evenly dispersed.

From working in the Bridal industry for several years, if you find a gown you love, buy it. There is no telling if you will even be able to special order it the next day. There is no advance notice when a gown will be pulled from inventory and discontinued. This happened to so many of my brides that wanted to wait, and they were very upset. Most bridal gowns can be taken in or let out up to 2 sizes. I know as far as David's Bridal with their alterations, they will be very backed up after the first of the year. It could take 3 months for them to finish your alterations. And then you'll have a final fitting after that, with the pressing, bead and lace check and spot cleaning. It's a very lengthy process. Starting in January begins the "Bridal Christmas". This is the busy season for Bridal shops because there are so many May and June weddings. A personal recommendation, shop early to avoid the stress.

I recommend somewhere between 4 and 5 months. I went at the 4 month mark... finished all my alterations the last week of September and my wedding is almost here. Gave me some time just in case I wasnt happy with the alterations . I wouldnt go too soon though- as others are saying .

My weight has never fluctuated until these last few months . It somewhat scared me about my dress when i went for the last alterations apt(But those long lined bra's work wonders for tucking everything in !). Good luck !
