Dress - I need your advice ladies!

What other people think should not matter. It's what makes YOU feel like a bride, what makes you feel comfortable, what makes YOU happy. I love the idea of something unique, but is that what you want? or do you want to create a special effect or reaction from those invited?

Tho the prom dress idea does not sound to appealing, I love the idea of the different colors in the white dress.

With so much before your wedding, have fun with it! try all sorts of dresses, play with the styles. You'll find that your thoughts now and your views will change and you'll be able to settle with something you like.

I do put a request in tho, POST PICTURES OF YOUR DRESS :)

I think I know where you are coming from on this one. When I first started thinking about my wedding I really wanted a color gown. My engagement ring is a diamond set into a claddagh ring and I wanted to go all out on the Irish theme so I was thinking why not get an emerald green dress... over time I couldn't give up the idea of a traditional bridal gown though. So I am going to go with something more traditional. However, when I told friends this is what I was thinking of doing they totally thought I had lost it. But the thing is it's not about them its about you. If you love the pink dress then go for the pink dress. There's nothing wrong about going away from the trend, just celebrate your uniqueness.

Amen on that post.

The first bridal store I went to, they didnt have anything I wanted... but the lady there was really pressuring me to buy this one particular dress. It looked nice when I tried it on, and everyone in the store kept saying how nice it was but I just wasnt feeling excited about it.

As soon as I put on my actual wedding dress, I knew this was the one! It was the first dress I tried on at a second store and even though I went on to try on several more dresses, I just knew this was it! If you aren't REALLY excited about the dress- it's not for you.

If you are torn between different and traditional is there a way you could make a "traditional dress" more unique to you? Like colored sashes, accessories, hot pink shoes and a short cocktail length dress?

DITTO!!! I tried on some more traditional dresses...one in particular that was gorgeous...but not me. My Mom, MoH and salesperson just loved it on me but it wasn't THE one. When I tried on my dress i just knew. It's not a traditional wedding dress yet it's still Ivory.

I say go with what makes you feel like a bride..be that red, orange pink...or even WHITE!! There are lots of things you can do to make it special and unique in your own way.

Well, I did everything wrong!!

I found THE dress on the internet, found a shop in the UK that had one to try on, ordered a completely different colour without trying a dress on in that colour and didn't try any other dresses on.

I absolutely love it!!

I had a style/theme in mind and this dress fit the bill perfectly. I tried the stock diamond white dress on (I have quite pale skin) and looked washed out. I went for the brilliant white and wow, it looks fantastic against my skin. I just knew this dress was the dress for me when I was it on the internet and wasn't interested in trying anything else on. If I hadn't been sure I would have tried every dress in every colour.

Our wedding isn't full on traditional by any means, but our clothes are. We both wanted to look as fantastic as we could on the day and for my OH that was the formal suit and for me the princess dress.

I agree with the other posters - don't go for something different because you want to be non-traditional. If you really want something different then great, but if it is just to buck tradition then I would really think about it and try loads of different dresses on.

Oh, and post pictures for us!! :goodvibes
