Dress down question for those with school uniforrms

My kids can wear spirit wear on Fridays.
They can wear plain blue or black jeans, sneakers, and any school shirt.
The uniform is a polo., can wear spirit t shirts, sweatshirts, any shirt from a club or sport.

Otherwsise they have to wear full uniform.

My DD6 has dress down day the last Friday of every month. However, dress down day for her is no jeans, leggings, tshirts, sweatshirts etc. They still have to be pretty much "dressed up" for their dress down day. Most girls wear skirts/dresses and boys slacks with a polo shirt. I'm actually in favor of it. I crings sometimes when I drive by the bus stop and see what some kids are allowed to wear to school. I don't care if it's in style or not.:goodvibes

It is not a reasonable accomodation issue because she has a medically acceptable option available to her.

Jeans are not an option for her so she would have to wear her uniform. While I said that is her option I also said it would be worth talking to the principal about it to see if the other is acceptable. Which would equal a reasonable accomodation since she would not have the "dress down" option

well you are obviously against this kid wearing something other than what the school dictates.

I just fail to see what the big deal is. I asked if you had a special needs child because you seem to have a lot of opinions on reasonable accomodations.

You misunderstand.

There is no need for 'reasonable accomodation' in this case because there is an alternative available to the child that she can utilize. If the dress down day required children to either wear jeans or pleather pants and she could do neither, reasonable accomodation would be required.

reasonable accomodation is not just a "requirement" it can also be anything that helps the child. Since the child is ok wearing the uniform it isnt that big of a deal but if this were a case where everyone was being rewarded for something and the child had no other options (ie cant wear jeans) that would basically be singling the child out, therefor reasonable accomodation would be letting her wear leggings or something else.

but since it looks like the child doesnt mind and considering the age of the child its a moot point anyway.

Binny, let's just say that you and I agree with this point. If a reward isn't rewarding, it's not really a reward. Basically, my child won't be rewarded, but she is too young to care. Sometimes I get worked up over things that bother me, but they don't bother my kids. So, until she cares....
