Dress codes

In all seriousness, the best I’m doing is a pair of pants (Dockers), a collared shirt and shoes, no tennie runners here. At this rate my first cruise might be my last, haven’t even gone yet and it already sounds to restricting and orchestrated for my tastes, hope my wife and kids likes it.

My son(teenager) only owns jeans and some black T-shirts. (okay, maybe somewhere hidden in his closet he a has one button up shirt left) The question is do we need to force him into a pair of Dockers or will jeans suffice with a nice shirt?

Sounds like my nephew (now 20) who did not even have dress clothes (let alone a suit) to wear to his sister's wedding. We had to put him in borrowed clothes, then tuck and stretch to get everything to fit. (He failed to go get measured, so alas, no tux) Of course, he couldn't tie his tie, so we had to do the whole tie over the head thing. JMHO- there are occasions where people need to dress up and look nice. You judge for youself, but we told our young man that he needed to step up to the plate and make an attempt to grow up.

Windermerejudy is mistaken, there is no "formal night" on the 4-night Wonder.
DH and I and my parents took the 4-night cruise and we didn't dress up that much. Dad and DH wore khaki slacks and polo shirts to dinner, Mom and I wore nice slacks and tops, or sundresses. Even at Triton's we saw very, very few suits. No tuxes at all, and no glittery gowns. On our 7-night cruises we dressed up more, and we did see several tuxes and glittery gowns on those cruises. The 4-night is much more casual/relaxed. Capri pants and a nice top would be fine for dinner.

I wish I hadn't bothered bringing a sport coat for my 17 year old son. We just got home from the 4 night Wonder. Even in Tritons there were no tuxes, no suits. We had Triton's the first night, Animator's for the "dress up" night (still very few fancy clothes). Did not see any costumes for the pirate night party in Animator's, although we were over on the side. We were traveling with my in-laws; father-in-law brought a tie but no jacket, brother-in-law was lucky to have packed long pants, had no tie or jacket. DH dressed in tie and jacket. Ladies outfits run the gamut. Capris are fine. Skorts, sundresses, whatever. We saw plenty of people in t-shirts.

Well just to add a final comment to this whole dress code thing after returning from the cruise, which was fantastic I might add!

I did see just as many people dressed up as not along with anything in between. The four night cruise does have a formal night for what it's worth, it listed it on the navigator, I forget what day it was. But my conclusion is that it wasn't a hardship to dress alittle nicer for dinner, funny, I thought of it as a nice change after lounging around all day in a bathing suit. My son got by with his jeans and a nice collared button up shirt just that he only brought one with him and after wearing the same shirt each night for dinner he had wished he had brought a few more.

I guess this will be an on going debate and I find myself in the middle, not really a suit and tie guy, but not shorts and a tank top either.

Glad you had a nice time and also glad it was not a hardship to dress up a bit....folks always get so riled up when the words "dress up" are mentioned...but in reality unless you are walking around in stained tank top and shorts you will be fine!!!

Also, I hope that the cruise was not too structured or restrictive for you!!!

Yes, there is no formal night on the Wonder. However, it might be a good idea to dress up just one night to have your portrait taken as a family. We missed doing this on our first cruise and very well made up for it on the subsequent cruises on the Magic. However, if you choose to stay casual there is no problem, particularly on the 3 or 4-night cruises.

No the cruise was not too structured or restrictive for me, it went great and the family can't wait to go again! Also my wife told me it was semi-formal not formal on the one night.
