Dress Code

Hi all, we'll be in Disney in 18 days and can't wait!! We have 20 ADR's for a variety of restaurants, one question though. My husband has been checking videos and the boards for comments and information on what to wear at certain restaurants. One of our dinner reservations is at Citricos and we all would love to 'dress' for dinner. This would include my husband wearing a tie and jacket, he is slightly apprehensive that we would look 'over-dressed', my thinking is that: 1) this is a lovely restaurant, and 2) it is within the Grand Floridian Resort therefore long linen trousers and a smart, but casual, jacket would be fitting?? The girls in the family want to wear smart maxi-dresses, the question is ... will we look ridiculous?? or as I'm hoping… will we blend in with our surroundings? We've chosen other outfits to blend with the theme of other restaurants.. i.e. Hawaiian shirts and lei's for Ohana, and animal/jungle print for our Animal Kingdom dinners... it's all part of the holiday! But as luggage weight is a consideration, will it be unnecessary to pack jackets/smart shoes etc... for the signature restaurants?

Hope that's not too many questions!

Thanks, Kate :) x

If you want to dress up, it won't matter to anyone else. It appears to matter to you - but no one else will notice you. You will see people in everything from park attire to slacks, jackets, dresses and heels. But if you would prefer not to dress up, it will make no difference as long as you stay away from the "prohibited" items (swimwear, torn clothing, tee shirts with "offensive" slogans or graphics, hats or tank tops for men). And there are a lot of reports from those who have seen the "prohibited" items in various resort signatures.

If you want to dress up then by all means do so!

Just be aware that most folks will NOT be that dressed up--it's actually rare to see a man in a jacket and tie other than at V&A.

But as TDC Nala says, nobody will be looking at you or really care how you are dressed.

I will second TDCNala's response. If you feel like dressing a little fancier than the dress code requires, absolutely go for it! I have seen everything from clothes that really push the dress code (too casual) to people in wedding dresses, cocktail dresses, tuxes, nice suits.

No worries about whether you are overdressed. Have a great time and enjoy looking lovely while you are there! I think that people who dress a little - or a lot - better than the dress code look great, and those who push it as casual as they can without actually being sent away at the hostess stand are the ones who look more ridiculous. (Accepting that I might get a firestorm of "I'm on vacation and don't want anyone making me dress up" responses...) ;)

Thank you for your quick replies, I was simply asking what was the 'norm' for Signature Restaurants - with specific reference to Citricos. We have no intention of drawing attention to ourselves - we simply wanted to know what the acceptable dress code was. In many other restaurants we have visited a shirt and tie is essential. As this is our first time dining at Disney we wanted to draw on other people's experiences in this situation. Obviously you misunderstood the reasoning behind my enquiry.

Thank you cmwilson523, your answer was exactly the guidance we needed and the kind of reply I was hoping for!! Thanks again!!

People will be wearing anything and everything. A shirt and tie is not essential. Even Victoria & Alberts does not require a tie (they do require a jacket though).

DevonDisney:

To be direct in an answer, the "norm" is not a jacket for men nor a dress for the ladies. "Acceptable" would be anything not actually on the very small "prohibited in the dinng room" list.

Most people will be casual--polo shirts and slacks(or shorts) on men, shorts, slacks and a blouse/sweater for the ladies. We eat at Cirticos each and every trip and that is how most folks will be dressed.

But again, you will find all sorts of dress at Citricos. I just don't want you to dress up and then be stunned at how some other people actually look:)

As everyone has said, you will see everything from theme park casual, or too dressy. If you want to get a little more dressed up, go for it. No one will be "looking" and you won't look out of place. :) We always get a little more dressy for dinner, a nice dress ect. :)

We are at The Flying Fish last year and a girl came in with daisy dukes and a cropped halter top. She was asked to go change into something more appropriate or she could wear a suit jacket that they provided.

Er, I kind of hope it is. :rotfl2:

I think you meant jacket. :rotfl2:

Sorry, the Q & A in me coming out.

I meant a collared shirt. They do not require collared shirts at the signatures. I think V&A might but not the tie.

I just wanted to say that if you are wearing smart dinner clothes, I will certainly notice you (and secretly applaud).
We don't over-dress for dinner but I feel disappointed when we are at a signature restaurant and people are wearing beach shorts, tank tops and flip flops. Each to their own I guess. :confused3

I'm with you! I think the environment desires some prettying up!

When I see people dressed for dinner at WDW, I think it's FANTASTIC:thumbsup2

And the GF is a perfect place for it.

I always plan a dressy outfit for one of my ADR's. I actually feel more relaxed knowing I'm putting forth the best me.

I say DO IT and take lots of pictures. :wizard:

I have never felt overdressed in a Disney restaurant. I know that people do wear jeans and t-shirts to signature restaurants, but I'm not one of them. I'm personally more comfortable erring on the side of more formality. I think that anything from business casual to cocktail attire would feel right in Citricos.

Kate,

I say dress up! We like to dress up when visiting signature restaurants, and Citricos is a restaurant that really doesn't suit casual outfits because it is beautiful and elegant. I thought people wearing tshirts and shorts looked out of place!

We saw people dressed up in Citricos (more so than California Grill) although I think Citricos feels more formal than CG anyway.

Great choice with Citricos- it's one of our favourites!

We always dress up for Citricos. Suit for him, dress for me. I never feel overdressed there and I can't say that I've ever really noticed what other people wear there. I feel that the restaurant calls for nicer clothes and I mostly just notice how nice I think that DH looks when he dresses in a suit.

Of course, if I was dressed more casually to go there because we were not able to go back to the room to dress up and had come from the parks, I would probably also feel comfortable because we would be focused on each other. That's why we're there - to spend time with each other.

If you want to dress up - go for it and enjoy. If you can't or decide not go - go for it and enjoy.

Excellent response. I say go for it too with the understanding that if your husband wears a suit, that he will probably be in the minority. I might notice you, but it would be in a good way. I really wish more people would dress up for the signatures (or at least not push the limits of what is not acceptable). I usually wear a long sundress or a pair of dressier capris with a nice blouse and open toed sandals (and yes my finger and toenails are polished and well groomed to match--can't stand unpolished nasty looking toe nails with open toed shoes. Yuck! lol). I'm usually dressed somewhere in the middle. Others will be there that are dressed even more casually and others will be dressed nicer. The only time I've ever felt out of place in my capris was once at California Grill when I was seated next to a wedding party where the bride was in her gown, the bridesmaids were in their formal dresses, and the men were all in tuxes. However on the way out that night I noticed people wearing cargo shorts, Disney tshirts, and crocs, so actually my attire fit somewhere in the middle again.:rotfl:
