Does my twelve year old need a jacket or are dress pants with a shirt and tie okay?!

I haven't looked at the dress code, but my ASSUMPTION would be that - if they say jackets - then he needs to wear a jacket. He's being treated like an adult by hitting the age bracket to attend, so he really ought to - in my opinion - conform to the adult dress code.

Again, just my opinion. If it were my son, he'd be wearing a jacket if the dress code called for a jacket from gentlemen.

PP is right, a jacket will be required. If your son doesn't have one they will usually provide a jacket there for him to wear. 12 is a Disney Adult and the reason that he can dine at V&A. He will need to conform with the dress code for all male adults at V&A.

I agree, you are taking him to an adult restaurant with strict dress code, he needs a jacket.

. . . absolutely a jacket, with tie optional
. . . simply a shirt and tie are just not appropriate

. . . welcome him into the adult world of sophisticated dining
. . . good time to learn

No, 10 is the Disney adult, 12 is the V & A adult!;)

Kids in jackets are adorable. He'll feel really mature. I remember when my parents bought me my first sport coat and how adult I felt!

10 is an adult at V&A too. I was just addressing the OP's question specifically and didn't feel like typing "10 is an adult in Disney's eyes, so your 12 year old would definitely be a Disney adult" I am so wordy that I like to tone it down when I can. :goodvibes
