dress code for CG

I heard there was a dress code for California Grill. For those who are going directly from Magic Kingdom to dinner at California Grill, how do you handle this? We don't really want to be dressing business casual all day at the park!

Our hotel is off-property, so it would be too difficult to go back to the hotel to change.

Hi,

The "resort casual" dress code is mainly to keep out tank tops on men and cutoff shorts and swimwear on anyone. We have seen almost any other kind of apparel in CG, from shorts, sneakers and collarless t-shirts, to men in coat and tie with women in black dresses.

As long as you don't show up in any of the three no-bos, you will be fine. They don't expect you to dress up when you've been in the parks all day, especially in the summer!

We eat at the CG every trip. It is clearly one of the upscale restaurants in WDW and most people dress appropriately to go there. While they do not enforce a dress code.....................

When I made a recent PS they stressed Business Casual to me as a way of dress, to me that means no jeans, shorts etc, but a nice pair of slacks and nice top. We are planning on dressing up when we go there because of all of the advice I have received on the boards. They did not mention the resort casual at all, they actually said it is a dressier place.

They told us three rules - no flip flops, no tank tops, and no swimsuits.

It is PARK dress casual.

People wear all sorts of stuff - but certainly what you can wear to the parks is appropriate.

DH wore a polo and khaki shorts to the park that day, I wore capris and a Mickey boatneck tee from the DisneyDirect site, and the kids wore skorts and sundresses (depending on age) and sandals all around.

There were a few people more dressy than that - but it certainly isn't expected. They don't care - as long as you pay your bill

We also had four kids - and it was a lot more adult groups than family groups in our section - but during fireworks LOTS of families were around.

All I was doing was stated what I was told, and I feel that I should pass that on. Having said that since CA grill is considered more of an upscale restraunt, and I am paying more for my meal, I feel that I should dress in a manner that suits that. I would not show up in anything less than business casual myself.

With the dawning of luxury denim, it is perfectly acceptable to wear well-tailored denim as part of a business casual dress code.

Flip flops and tube tops could also be worn, if done so appropriately.

Just don't wear what you'd wear to the pool, and if you have time, don't wear what you'd wear to the parks.

Business casual is pretty common sense. You know if you look appropriate or not.

While I agree with what you're saying (that denim is appropriate) the cast members specifically told me "no flip flops, tank tops, or swimwear".

I definitely think a camisole is different from a "tank top" - but as you said, one should just use their best discretion. Park attire is certainly acceptable in the restaurant - we saw a lot of people in standard park wear.

Would I wear a wal-mart oversized Minnie Mouse tank top with bike shorts and flip flops? Um - probably not But, then again, I wouldn't wear that in the parks either

Oh, the mental image! Unfortunately, those are the people for whom the "no tube top, flip-flop, or swimsuit" rule was created.

Why some may consider flips, and tubes, and demin business casual, it is not part of my defination. I think business casual means something that you would be proud to wear if you were inviated to a spur of the moment meeting at work and not feel ashamed. But this is my own personal opinion. Hope you all have a good evening.

My standard response to this often posted question: We always wear theme park casual--shorts and a Disney T'. You'll see all sorts of dress at CG, and no one is really going to care how you look, so long as you aren't in your swimsuits. Flip-flops may be "out", but sandals sure aren't. A # of folks in shorts and sandals at CG last time we were there.
So--dress "up" if you want to, but you really don't have to. That "code" is merely a recommended way to dress.

I wear jeans to CG all the time. Noone's going to tell my wife that her $149 pair of jeans is trumped by some dude in a $29 pair of Dockers khakis!! Them's fightin' words!

We were told business casual & dressed accordingly, but there were many folks there in nice shorts & shirts.

I'd say as long as you aren't dressed as above, or cut-offs or anything you'll be perfectly comfortable. I enjoy dressing for a couple dinners & CG is one of them & I'm comfortable that way as well. There's a wide range of dress there & I doubt they'll turn anyone away.

Remember, this is Florida. "Business casual" may have a whole different meaning from where you live. (I grew up in Orlando and still have lots of friends and family there.)
