I was just wondering if there are any rules about what you can wear to the water parks. I would think that not everyone is comfortable running around in just a swimsuit, but I don't know what to wear otherwise. I'm not exactly Kate Moss here, and I don't want to expose myself to ridicule. (No pun intended. :) ) Does anybody know if I can wear shorts and a t-shirt?

Sure you can wear tshirt and shorts, but pretty much everyone wears bathing suits, afterall everyone is in the water.

You won't feel out of place, there are all kinds of people of many shapes and sizes, everyone is too busy having fun to notice anything else I am sure.
:cool1:

You may wear shorts and t-shirt, but the shorts can't have any outside zippers, grommets, metal buttons, or anything that may potentially scratch the slides.

I saw a few people in tshirts (over their bathing suits).. I'm pretty sure you have to wear a bathing suit at least under.

HOWEVER once you get there you will probably feel much more comfy. I brought a large men's tank top to wear over my suit when I went last sept... I was 241 lbs at the time.. but there were women larger than me wearing somewhat revealing suits completely comfy with themselves and you know what? They looked GREAT! Nobody is looking. There are people from all over the world wearing different styles of suits in all body types. I can't tel you how many large men I saw with tiny speedos...

HOWEVER.. I did get a suit I"m now completely comfy in. I've lost almost 50 lbs since november but I"m still NOT a small girl. This is similar to the suit I got:

I hope that works.. another is:

The one above is my favorite.

If those don't show they are on the JCPENNEY web site... my fav is under swimwear, seperates, print tankini or surf short. I got this set. It looks like a tank top and shorts... but it's a bathing suit!

I would suggest a one piece suit, an old T-shirt you wouldn't mind losing, a pair of those draw string shorts that are thin and look sort of like sweat pants, and water shoes.
Oh and plenty of sunscrean.

I heard from a CM that's a friend of a friend of a friend that both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon would soon be clothing optional. I can't wait!

The great thing about the Disney water parks is that nobody really seems to care what anyone else is wearing. The first time DH & I went, we were a little embarrassed to be walking around in swimwear (DH NEVER walks around without a shirt), but quickly got over it after we saw all the different people there. Lots of European tourists, and many of the men and boys wear Speedos. Again, nobody seemed to care. I braved it and wore a 2-piece (with the boy-short bottoms for more coverage!), and we had a great time.

I saw an Indian woman in full brown robes from head to toe wading thru the lazy river last week at TL. I'm thinking a T-shirt and shorts will be no problem.

At 350 lbs, I had the same concern and when I went it was bathing suit only. I did not encounter one negative look or comment. I was more comfortable there than any other water park I had ever been to. Go and enjoy yourself and wear whatever will make you the most comfortable.
Take care

EDIT: of course I'm a guy and that is different.

I was kinda worried about this too...not so much about my weight...I do have a little to loose (20 pounds maybe ) but mostly about my...ahhhhh...****s (can I say that on here?) anyhow...my kids are always telling me that too much of them are showing. And with Disney being a family oriented park I thought I better consider a different bathing suit...this isn't my back yard or anything. So, Target had this nice black one that is a bikini top but at the bottom it has extra material that covers your tummy. So kinda a two piece and not...but the problem is...not many bathing suits cover aaah...****s (I am having a hard time printing that here...afraid I might get in trouble!) like they should. I thought about the tank or t-shirt thing too.

What do you ladies do about showing your aaahhh well you know what I am saying now...I don't have to type it anymore...lol!

Adding after post: See I told you I couldn't post it...darn it...forgive me! :teeth:

Wearing a bathing suit anywhere but in the pool in my backyard always causes me stress, so I brought a t-shirt and a tank top to wear over mine but when we got there, I didn't care, believe me no one there is going to care what you are wearing. But, I will add, to make myself feel better about being in my suit, I did buy a pair of womens swim trunks from the gift shop and I felt a lot better. There are a lot of people there, large and small, a lot of foreigners wearing speedos :rotfl2: and all sorts of other stranger looking suits that I have never seen, so believe me don't worry, I saw some kids wearing these one piece suits that looked like some sort of spandex exercise wear. Don't worry seriously, but if you're like me and it will worry you to the point where you won't be able to enjoy yourself, then wear something over your suit, no metal, and really enjoy yourself. Ride the crush n gusher, just don't forget to pick up your butt!!

No one has questioned me walking into and out of the water park with just shorts (or sometimes just reasonably full cut swim trunks) on.

No...I actually don't know what you are referring to. If it is a...ahem...HAIR issue, that can be resolved with a Bic and some shaving cream. :thumbsup2 OR a men's beard trimmer (OMG, I can't believe I'm talking about this stuff on the DIS!! :rotfl2: )

If you are referring to "the twins", I simply choose a bathing suit that has enough material to both cover my cleavage and to provide support. For me that's not always easy..I'm well endowed, but certainly not a zoftig gal. I've seen girls wearing practically dental floss and two band-aids, so I guess it's whatever you feel comfortable in. :rolleyes1

OMG that is too funny...I went a read back over my post and put in 'hair' in there where they bleeped out what I actually ment and you know what...it works but eeeeewwwww! I wasn't talking hair down there....eeeewwwww!! lol....I was talking twins! But thanks for the laugh...I needed that today...been having stress everwhere I look and I needed a good 'pick me up'!...THANKS! :thumbsup2

I can so empathize with you. I'm rather 'blessed' up top, but am in good shape and only wear a medium size everywhere else. The only swimwear I can wear without fear of a serious 'wardrobe malfunction' are those with underwire cups and really secure support up top. And I still feel very self concious about something potentially 'falling out' if I get hit by a wave, or lean over too far.

I bought tankini separates last year (underwire bra tankini top in the larger bust size that I needed, and a medium/10 size bikini bottom), and then also wore one of those ultra shear tank tops over the top of that to help. This year I also purchased a very well made bikini bra top from VS (they sell by bust size, so it was easy to get the best fit), along with their new, VS mesh swim tank top to wear over that. I feel so much less stressed out knowing everything is covered (with a second layer of clothing as added insurance), and likely to remain that way. :thumbsup2

I never ever wear a t-shirt or shorts at the water park - they come off as soon as I arrive. I just wear my bikini all day long (better than a once piece for sunbathing, and easier when using the bathroom). I kinda feel self concious because I'm only 5'4" and weigh like 125lb but I figure I'm never gonna see anyone else there ever again!

I make sure I wear the most secure of my bikinis though - I have a couple that woudln't survive the TL wave pool!

You are too cute. Thank you so much for the suggestions! :) I had no idea that this thread would turn into the body image support group thread, but I'm loving it! It's so much easier to deal with one's flaws when you know other people are going through the same things. Thanks guys!! :thumbsup2

For those of you who are worried about having stuff hanging out there are these great swimsuits you can get that are two piece with tank top on top and shorts on the bottom. The shorts aren't those tight shorts, but more like excercise shorts, or swim trunks, and the top is long enough to cover your tummy. My mil (who hasn't worn a swimsuit in 15+ years) got one for our trip and said she feels pretty good about wearing it. I feel pretty good about how I look in my swimsuit except for my...ummm...rear view. (when I had my daughter, things kinda moved south... ) I got a bikini and then board shorts to go over the bottom. Think surfer-shorts, but shorter. Works great for covering up "problem areas." You can get the two piece like my mil got at JC Pennys and the board shorts at Pac Sun or Aeropostale.

Disney Water Parks are the only place in the world I don't seem to feel self conscious wearing a bathing suit. I think it's because you will see everything and everyone and every type of body you could possible imagine. After the first 5 minutes I don't think you even notice what anyone is wearing.

I am 40 years old, could stand to lose about 15 pounds and I wear a bikini there. I guess I figure who cares, I will never see these people again in my life. I'm here to have fun!

So I recommend that all women that feel self conscious about bathing suits go buy a really hot skimpy bikini, a bottle of Nair, go to a Disney Water Park and act like you're 20 again!! I've been doing it for the last 3 years and have a blast every time!! :sunny:
