Dress clothes

I think its kind of sad that so many people don't think specials occasions are "special" enough to dress up for.

I do dress up for things like weddings, seeing an orchestra (indoors), and that kind of stuff but I consider a shirt and tie dressed up enough.

I dress up when it's necessary. I just don't stock clothes that may not be necessary.

Personally, I long for the days past when, on a cruise, you had to dress for dinner. Now, while they have a dress code, it's rarely enforced. I guess because cruising has become so much more mainstream.

This. DH has several shirts & ties and one or two nice pairs of pants. I have several dresses, but then I've needed more nice clothes than DH.

We bought DH a suit for a wedding in 2005 and he also wore it to a fancy dinner at Victoria & Albert's. And he hasn't worn it since. Fast forward almost 6 years, he's lost 30 pounds. I can't see buying another suit (and not sure his can be altered enough) since it's a once every 5 year thing.

I've always thought a tie without a jacket looks weird. I'd rather see a dress shirt open at the neck if a jacket isn't worn (sometimes if a jacket is worn) - with an undershirt, of course. Might just be me.
