Hi all! Just got back from a great few days away with DH at WDW for his 40th b-day! Couldn't wait to share my good day
and our huge disappointment
On Oct. 24th, DH and I were at AK enjoying the beautiful day and no big crowds (we were there in July and it is soooo much easier to get around in October!). We got fastpasses to the safari first after arriving around 9:30 am - had an hour to wait so I said I'd go on Everest as single rider (DH can't handle EE
). That only took me about 15 minutes, so then I suggested we take the Maharajah Jungle Trek since it was close by and such a gorgeous day for a walk. We enjoy both the trails, but DH loves the gorillas on the Pangani one, and I love the tigers on this one. After strolling along killing time until our fastpasses, we decided to finally head out of the trail. As we headed around the corner for the exit - oh my gosh, is that a Dream Team Member???
I couldn't believe it - we were there for two weeks in July and never saw one, and now on our second day, wooo hooo, there they were. We got the usual spiel, have you hear of YOMD, and you've just won a dream - fastpass, yaaay!
Then, a few steps after, another pair stopped us, gave us the same speech, and handed over the lanyards - we won two dreams within steps of each other.
We were so excited, we felt like royalty walking around with both around our necks. Off we went to the safari with our regular fast passes. DH didn't want to use any of his, and since he doesn't do many rides, keeping his in tact wasn't a problem. Most rides were short if any wait anyhow, so we happily treasured them and didn't use them at all.
Now for our downer of the trip.
The next day was Thursday, the 25th - DH's 40th birthday. I decorated our room at AKL for him, but unfortunately had a stomach bug for the morning. He had hoped to head out for a park (not sure which one), and hunt down some dreams for his birthday. I unwillingly spoiled that idea, and we didn't head out until 10:30 am. By this time, he decided to just go to Disney Quest (we have premium AP's), and then maybe mini putting at Winterland Mini golf. That was fine. We got to West Side, and I visited the ladies room across from the Magnet store. Coming out, I decided we should visit the Vacation Club kiosk and get our perks book to check out discounts for lunch or dinner. As I flagged down DH, he says "isn't that the Dream team over there?" Sure enough, four of them were hovering around in between the stores and the DVC kiosk. Wow, and we thought we had to hunt them down at a park! DH thought this was awesome, they found him for his birthday. We decided to hang around and watch what they were up to. We went to the kiosk, but no one was there yet, so we found a bench on the other side of a juice vendor beside the DVC kiosk and sat down to watch. One of them actually came over and asked if we were waiting for the DVC guy - he said he was waiting for him too! So then I thought maybe the first people to talk to the DVC guy would win something, so we waited and waited. The Dream Teams phones rang, and the guy that spoke to us said 'great', as if they had been told it was time to do something. Then I thought maybe they would hand out something as people walked by. But no, nothing was happening, they were just standing around randomly speaking to people to say hi but nothing else. So we decided to go stand at the DVC kiosk and look at the booklet. As we stood there, DH put his foot up on a bench beside the book to lean while we looked. Finished the book, we turned around to see what the dream team was up to before sitting down to wait some more. We saw them talking to a woman at the other end of the bench, and the guy that had been talking to us came over and said "Why didn't you guys just sit down? We have our winner now!" and he pointed to the lady on the bench.
They were waiting for the first person to sit on the bench directly beside the kiosk, and if my DH had rested his butt instead of his foot, we would have won.
Thank goodness it wasn't a huge prize, or I would need therapy. The lady's children came running over, and her sister came out of the store to see what was happening. They had won tickets to that night's MNNSHP, and one Dream team member said "and a few surprises to go with them", and escorted them away before anyone else around knew what was happening.
DH and I just shook our heads at how close we came, then went to Disney Quest for an hour to pout. We decided it wasn't meant to be for us that day, and we were happy for the tired looking lady that seemed to need a happy day. I don't know if they were even staying at a Disney resort or if they had park tickets, but we were happy a family got to experience the Halloween party. We went two years ago and know how much fun it is, but with AP's, it wasn't in the budget for our trip to add party tickets. Off we went mini putting and had a great afternoon. At least we had won our dreams at AK the day before.
It was a great trip regardless of the Dream Team sightings, and I hope that family had an absolutely unforgettable experience with their dream.
Good luck to everyone else, and if you don't win a dream, remember - you got to go to WDW
