I have been researching cruise information and pricing for a few months. We have never been on a cruise before, and I wanted to gather all of the info I could before I made a decision. I had gotten a quote in October 2004 for the Special Western Cruise in October 2006 when the 2006 cruise dates were first released just to see how much it would cost. A couple of weeks ago, I got another quote. The price was almost the same as the previous quote. After discussing plans with the rest of my party, we thought we were ready to book the cruise. We submitted another quote only to find that the prices had increased almost $850 from the quote I had gotten only two weeks ago. I was told they had sold out of the inventory they had previously priced me and this was the prevailing rate.

Has anyone else experienced this? As I said, I am new to all of this and not sure how this works just yet.

It not only happens with Dreams it happens with DCL as well.

There is a select number of rooms that qualify for early booking discounts. Once those go - be it that same day or months later - the price will increase. Within a week of booking our 5/27/06 cruise the price went up almost $1000! That's why it is always a good idea to book as early in the process as possible.

Yep. Prices go up as the ship fills. Book early, book often is the mantra -- if you change your mind you can cancel and get your deposit back. We have my parents booked on what I suspect is the same Oct 2006 cruise you are looking at to cruise with us - I didn't even ask my parents if they wanted to go or could cruise then, I just booked it. If they have to cancel, oh well.

You may find another agent who has a number of rooms still set aside at a lower rate - if you do, book quickly.

When the repo cruises (and the WC cruises) were announced, you could watch the rates on the repo cruises take a significant jump every 4 to 6 hours. Our Cat just came available again for the Aug repo and it is close to $2500 more now than on day one.
