Welcome to my trip report. Come on in, sit down and take a load off. If you like, stay awhile. :)

When I say "my" trip report, I really do mean "ours". But since I am the one writing it, I will start the introductions with none other then me, myself and I.

Hello, nice to meet you. I am jaycns here at the DIS. I am a 30 something mom of three (soon to be four come January 2008). I have been happily married to my dh for the past 12 years...and moving on to the important stuff...I LOVE DISNEY!!:wizard: Much like one of my sons, my favorite characters are the trouble makers. I love Stitch, Donald, Abu, Beast and Figment.

Next let me introduce you to my dh, aka the Disney grump. He is also a thirty something traveler. He loves his family enough to put up with yet another Disney vacation. For some reason, the Disney bug never bit him. I so don't get that about him, but I love him despite this obvious flaw. ;)

Then we come to my boys:

First up, Aladdin. Aladdin is now 11 years old. Lucky for me, the Disney bug did bite him (and how!). He loves all things Disney, including WDW. When it comes to a partner in crime, he's my man, always helping me to convince dh that another Disney trip is "required". :thumbsup2 His favorite characters are Jack Sparrow, Mickey Mouse, Aladdin and Will Turner.

Next is Goofy. Goofy turned 8 while on vacation. He just flat out loves Disney. He is a bit shy with new people, but considers all Disney characters to be old friends. His favorite characters are Pluto, Lucky (from 101 Dalmations), Goofy, Dale and Squirt.

Last, but not by any stretch least, let me introduce you to Stitch. Stitch is 6 years old and shares many traits with the original 626...he's sweet, loyal, loving and can wreck havoc with the best of them. He shares my love of the Disney "naughtymakers". His favorite characters are Chip, Stitch, Crush, Figment and Donald Duck.

Enough about the cast of characters...now for the trip plans (in a nutshell).

PRELUDE-August 2007

This month was not a great one for our family. My dad had a heart attack. He had to have triple bypass surgery and one of his carotid arteries cleaned out. It was major surgery. He lives 8 hours away and I felt like I needed to be there. After surgery, my dad suffered a massive stroke. He was unable to "wake up" for almost 15 days. So, two full weeks of the month were spent in a hospital waiting room/hospital cafeteria/cardiac ICU/ICU family sleep room.

Until the very last minute (and I am talking the day of departure) I was not sure if we should really pack up and go to WDW. However, my dad had made me promise (before his surgery) that no matter what happened, we would take the kids to WDW. On top of that dh BEGGED me to go to WDW (yes, the Disney grump begged to go...that was a huge first and I am sure the last time that will happen). And finally, my OB told me it was his opinion that I "needed" to go on vacation. So...add those together and although I still felt guilty, the trip was still on.

On top of everything with my dad's health, I am pregnant. Not usually a "thing" to go to WDW at 18 weeks pregnant but I have high risk pregnancies (no regular OB would see me, my OB is a high risk specialist). So another thing kept us on the edge of our seats, waiting until the final round of bloodwork/physical exam/ultrasound came back as a go (which wasn't until the day before departure).

Maybe this all helps explain why I was so guilt ridden about going but also knew that if ever a family needed a vacation, time to get away from the stresses of life, it was our family right then. So putting our cares in a ziploc bag and sealing it as tightly as possible, we headed out on the road at about 9:00 PM on 8/30.

The drive down was uneventful, long and full of short "walking" stops to keep my pregnant tootsies from swelling. The one event of "note" during the trip was our stop at the Florida Welcome Center. It's a family tradition to stop at there. As a little girl whenever my family came to WDW this was something we did as well...stopped for that cup of orange juice. It may be corny but I get a real kick out of doing the same thing with my boys. This is also the point our Disney vacation seems "real" for the first time. We pick up the current Disney park guides at the visitor's center. The one's with the current operating hours listed in them, the glossy pictures, the descriptions of the new attractions...we devour these over the last few hours of the trip, for some reason, this really gets us in a Disney mood.

Buckled back up and finally in the right state we set off again. For a while now we have been seeing the "Buy Discount Tickets for Disney World this Exit" signs. But now we get our first glimpse of a real Disney sign. This time it was for the new Nemo ride. As the Disney signs started getting more frequent we knew we were getting closer and closer...this started to get us all very excited (other then maybe the Disney grump aka dh but he was at least playing along with the ahhing going on). By the time we got to the greater Orlando area we were all just about ready to burst. FINALLY we start seeing freeway exit signs with Disney written on them!!

And then :woohoo: we drive under the Welcome to Walt Disney World sign and all of the worries and stress evaporated (or at least dimmed and moved to the back of our minds)...we were finally and oh so happily at Disney World! :donald: :stitch: :figment: :mickeyjum

First up? Downtown Disney!! And our very first stop there is the Rain Forest Cafe.

Oh gracious! I know that feeling of waiting for news in the ICU about a parent, sending you huge hugs!!! And preggers to boot!!! Bless your heart, lady!!!

I'm tuned in! I can't wait to read more and I hope your trip was truly magical. . .

Oh, and your remarks about that first cup of FL orange juice brought tears to my eyes. . .because my grandparents used to take us to the Welcome Center when we would drive down to WDW as children and I had completely forgotten about it until you said that. Thank you for the wonderful memory. Kleenex plz!!!

After reading your entire pre-trip report, I have been waiting for this! I hope your family had a great time and that your dad continues to get better.

And I can't wait to read your trip report. I especially can't wait to hear about the crazy woman who accosted you on the AKL elevator ;)

So excited to read a new TR from you!! Things have been a bit hectic so I didn't follow the Pre TR as much as I would have liked, but I'm on board for this one!!

Michelle, your new name looks wonderful on you! ;) I will be adding another update sometime tonight. I will start working on it before I have to be the soccer taxi, but it may not get posted until after "Aladdin's" practice. Then again, what better to do then relive the magic while I wait for him to finish up?!

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers for my dad. He is doing LOADS better. For a few weeks there, it was really touch and go and we thought we might lose him. He still has a long road ahead of him right now. Learning to do things we all take for granted (like eating, walking, talking, etc) BUT he is alive and with therapy he has a very good chance of regaining almost everything he had before!! I am so thankful and feel so blessed.:cloud9:

Laren, I get a bit teary eyed over that silly, tiny paper cup of juice at the welcome center too. It's just a great memory from my childhood. Of course to share that same tradition with my own little guys makes me somehow feel so close to my fond childhood memories of doing the same thing. I hope one day my boys are stopping with their children for that same little cup of sunshine! :)

PS The trip truly was magical!! :wizard:

Great start! Thanks for sharing!

PS. I LOVE the Rainforest cafe!

LAH
The Rain Forest Cafe is awesome! It was right up my boys' alley and such a fun lunch!

And I'm so excited for this report! :cool1:

Barb
Glad to see you here Barb!! You always bring a smile to my face!

After reading your entire pre-trip report, I have been waiting for this! I hope your family had a great time and that your dad continues to get better.
Oh my gosh, you read all of that babble? And you are still in for this?! ;) :rotfl: THANKS! And thanks for the well wish for my dad. His road is long, but at least he is on it!!:hourglass

And I can't wait to read your trip report. I especially can't wait to hear about the crazy woman who accosted you on the AKL elevator ;)
:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: Now stop making me SPIT my water out from laughing so hard! That's another thing a crazy person would do! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: ;)

So excited to read a new TR from you!! Things have been a bit hectic so I didn't follow the Pre TR as much as I would have liked, but I'm on board for this one!!

Why thanks Jess! Welcome, it's great to have you along for the ride!!:goodvibes

Lunch at the Rain Forest Cafe...

YUM and FUN. Those two words pretty much sum it up. We got SO much food (a trend of more meals soon to come). We have gone to the RFC in Chicago a few times. But it is still a treat for us. Walking in and seeing jungle come alive all around and the huge tanks of fish really made the atmosphere unique. Not to mention the huge animatronic animals and the indoor thundershowers! The theming rivals something Disney itself would do and the RFC seems right at home in DTD.

*Being as I am no good at keeping up with multiple reports, I am going to put my dining reviews right smack dab in the middle of this trip report.*

I had:
Jungle Safari Soup - zucchini, tomatoes, sausage, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, pasta and spinach topped with shaved Parmesan cheese. **OH SO GOOD, down to the last drop good, if it wasn't a public restaurant, lick your bowl good! It really hit the spot after such a long drive. It was more like a gumbo, stew or chili type thickness and very filling!

I also had water to drink...but I am a sucker for things that glow. If it glows, I want it. I plead for understanding, I think I am correcting a deficiency of my youth. :lmao:  My parents would only give us things that glowed on the 4th of July. That's it. I grew up getting one measly glow stick a year. :sad2: I am spending my adult life trying to make up for what I didn't have as a child. :rotfl2: :rolleyes1 So, my free water was served in a $7 glowing cup.

For my main course I chose to have the Shrimp Platter-shrimp scampi, shrimp skewers, and coconut crusted shrimp. It was a good choice. Not the very best shrimp I have ever had but certainly far from the worst and they gave you lots of it.

Dh had the steak which he declared "Pretty darn good". Dh chose to skip the appetizer and still couldn't finish his plate.

The boys all picked the kid's pizza. All three cleared their plates so I know they must have liked it. Being the good mother that I am  and not wanting to give my children the glowing thing complex throughout their adult lives, I offered them the chance to pick a specialty cup as well. They each chose an Icee filled sippy bottle with a toy rain forest animal in the bottom (not in the Icee itself but a separate little container under the drink). The price for those was about $7 too. Here you can see just how happy "Goofy" was with that choice of drink.

And here you see "Aladdin" hard at work on whatever word game was on the menu.

Disney07004.jpg

"Stitch" is just happy to be out of the car after an almost 14 hour trip (with stops).

Disney07003.jpg

By the time we finished up our main courses none of us had even the slightest bit of room left for dessert. That is a shame because the volcano chocolate lava cake with the sparkler "shooting" right out of the middle of it looked very enticing. I guess we just have a reason to go back! :upsidedow

Three happy to be out of the car and eating in the middle of a "rain forest" boys!

Disney07001.jpg

It was a fun meal and although dh and I were tired from the long drive (the boys slept away most of the night portion of the drive) it gave us the energy we needed to embark on the next leg of our journey, a tour of DTD!

I'm a little late, but I'm here jay!! I love the RFC too - it's a little overpriced for what you get, but soooooo much fun. I'm impressed you can still get Aladdin to order from the kids menu, my DS11 won't hear of it :sad2:

Great start - looking forward to more!

Sorry to hear about your dad. :guilty:
Congratulations on the pregnancy!! :goodvibes
And great start to the TR. I remember last year's and it was wonderful.
I wanna see you top it this year! :thumbsup2

I'm "in" for your TR! :thumbsup2 Looking forward to more!

The Rain Forest Cafe' is always so much fun! My DH and I made the mistake of ordering the "Volcano" for the two of us... Don't get me wrong, it was delicious, but it was HUGE! You'll definitely have to try it as a family next time you head back......we didn't eat much of it and went away stuffed! :rotfl:

I love seeing those smiling faces again!! What a treat.

Where did you get the name tags the boys were wearing? I'd like to get some for the whole family for our next trip. (Which may be - cross your fingers - in the spring!)

Thanks!
B

What day are you due in January??? My wife is due on the 10th. Do you know what you are having?? We are having a girl. I know what you mean about the Florida welcome centers, it always seemed like a different world whenever you got to Florida.

Not that I'm excited or anything!! :yay: :yay:  :woohoo: :hyper: I'll just be sitting here waiting patiently for more...:surfweb: popcorn:::rotfl:
Hiya Princess!! I hope I don't disappoint! I am currently working on the second installment. :)

Do you live in Chicago?

Great start!
No, we don't live anywhere near Chicago. Chicago is just another one of our very favorite vacation destinations!

:cool1: Great so far, can't wait for more! :wizard:

Thanks for jumping on in! It's good to see you!

Pish, posh, you cannot be calling yourself late on the very first day! ;) "Aladdin" loves the kids menus...he doesn't have very grown up tastes (which basically means he likes hot dogs, pizza, chicken strips and burgers).

Sorry to hear about your dad. :guilty:
Congratulations on the pregnancy!! :goodvibes
And great start to the TR. I remember last year's and it was wonderful.
I wanna see you top it this year! :thumbsup2
Yes ma'am...I will set my sights on topping last years! ;) Thanks for the congratulations. We are very excited (and still a bit in shock as well) about having another little one join our family!

I'm "in" for your TR! :thumbsup2 Looking forward to more!

It looked so good and on top of it looked like so much fun. Hearing you say that makes me glad that we skipped ordering it. We didn't have room for more then a bite or two each and that just would not have done such a good looking dessert justice!

I love seeing those smiling faces again!! What a treat.

Where did you get the name tags the boys were wearing? I'd like to get some for the whole family for our next trip. (Which may be - cross your fingers - in the spring!)
Thanks!
B
We got the name tags from the Christmas shop at DTD (a few years ago). I have seen them at MGM also. They have a few different kinds.
I have my fingers crossed for you! And I will send along a dose of pixie dust :wizard: (we are still shaking it off). A spring trip sounds like so much fun!!

What day are you due in January??? My wife is due on the 10th. Do you know what you are having?? We are having a girl. I know what you mean about the Florida welcome centers, it always seemed like a different world whenever you got to Florida.
I am due January 29. In the process of the trip report what we are having will be revealed. ;) We kept it secret from the boys and surprised them with the news there (of a sister or brother). Good luck to you and your wife! I wish your new family-to-be health and happiness!

Coming up...more DTD!!

I so glad you father is doing better, and I pray that he continues to get better each and every day. I went through a touch and go situation with my father 3 years ago. Like you, I was at the hospital all day and sometimes all night as family members would take turns staying in the room with him. At the end of the day I felt like I had been digging ditches all day. I can't even begin to imagine how hard that would have been if I had been pregnant. You difinently needed to get away for a little while.

Can't wait to read more, and your boys are absolutely adorable. :)
