Hi, my name is Kim and I'm a self proclaimed Disney fanatic. I've been going to Disney since I was 7 years old and have recently turned my DBF into a fanatic as well! :cool1: We go to WDW faithfully every September and January or February, and in between visits we desperately count the days until our next trip!

This is the first TR I've ever done, although I've been reading and very occasionally commenting on these on the DIS for ages now. I'm a little nervous about this one for two reasons:
1. why oh why oh why did I let 3 months go by before writing this up?!
2. I was too shy to take food porn pics on this trip, so my dining reviews are automatically going to be kind of ehh. I promise to overcome this fear in time for our 1/22/10 trip and will faithfully document every mouthful in photos!!

This trip was a great one for a lot of reasons, but to keep anyone who reads this in suspense for as long as possible I will say only that the trip was planned to celebrate my mom's 50th birthday (I get my Disney obsession from her) and she very generously footed the bill for the entire trip! :worship:

from left to right: my DBF Nick, 29; me (Kim) 25; my dad, 50; my brother's gf Gloria, 22?; and my brother Corey, 22. Plus of course my mom, who will be pictured later as we are so rarely all in one picture together!

Day one of our trip got off to a bit of a shaky start. Our flight was fine, but as we were loading up our rental car, the two rolling suitcases my brother was pulling along abruptly broke and he went flying and ended up with a pretty decent gash on his knee and his Disney excitement went a bit south. Nonetheless we all rallied and soon enough we were pulling up here:

Nick and I were extremely excited to be staying at a hotel neither of us had experienced before. Nick's pretty new to Disney so he's only tried a handful of the hotels so far, but I've stayed at nearly all of them. It was fun to be trying something Disney that was new to BOTH of us.

I'd have to give the hotel great reviews overall. The moment we checked in we were sprinkled with some major pixie dust - because the trip was a special 50th birthday celebration for my mom, the hotel upgraded us from a 2 BR villa to a 3 BR grand villa upon check-in!!! I can't even begin to overstate how fantastic this was - it really made a huge impact on the trip. It meant Nick and I now had our own room & bathroom rather than sharing with my brother and his gf. Everyone had plenty of privacy. It gave us tons more space and so many bathrooms made getting ready in the mornings nearly stress-free. It was also absolutely beautiful. :lovestruc The view of the Magic Kingdom (which we had booked all along) was something I had been looking forward to, but I was really unprepared for just how cool that would really turn out to be.

Needless to say I spent a fair amount of time gazing out at that view! It really was spectacular and the room upgrade definitely got us all in a giddy mood for our first day!

A few comments about the hotel overall: I personally really liked it. I really liked being just a covered walkway away from the Contemporary Resort, which had two really great giftshops as well as The Contempo Cafe, a CS restaurant. I also LOVED being able to walk over to the Magic Kingdom. Usually I find getting to the Magic Kingdom to be sort of a process - I don't like parking my car and still being another mode of transportation away from the park. I feel like it makes it tough to do a really quick trip over there. Walking over was great and I feel like because of that convenience, we made it over to the MK a lot.

Three complaints our group had about BLT:
1. The pool is kind of small and also kind of shallow. I think in a crowded season it would be packed! The slide was cool though.
2. There is no food actually AT the BLT. I personally didn't find this to be too much of an issue but my parents felt it was kind of a walk to have to go to the CR every time you wanted a cup of tea or something. It would be nice f there were a small CS restaurant for the BLT specifically.
3. There is no gift shop specifically for the BLT, and although the CR gift shops carry a few BLT items, this basically amounts to one very ugly (IMHO) teeshirt and little else. My mom especially really wanted a nice BLT souvineer to celebrate the trip and that really couldn't be had.

That being said, I would happily stay here again! For me, being so close to the MK really just keeps you fully in the Disney mindset 24/7. I really enjoyed it. Nick would like me to add that the bedding here was extremely luxurious, to a point that he now wants to buy a set of it for at home! :rotfl:

On to the next part of the day... a quick lunch at the Contempo Cafe. My one and only picture of this makes us all look absolutely horrible, so I'm just going to pretend it doesn't exist. I think this restaurant is a decent choice for a CS meal. It's not one of my favorites but it had plenty of choices and the food was good... kind of just not spectacular I guess. I had some sort of salad, which was good but not great. A few members of our party had the flatbread pizzas which they seemed to enjoy. You place your order yourself at a kiosk and then go pick up your food when it's ready, which is sort of cool.

After lunch we were all feeling a little refreshed and more than a little ready to head over to the Magic Kingdom, which is always the first stop on our Disney vacations!

Up first was one of my favorite rides, The Haunted Mansion!

It was sometime after this that I suddenly realized that my Open Heart Tiffany necklace was not around my neck, and I must admit I was nearly in tears over it. With a sinking feeling in my stomach I remembered leaving it at our hotel in NYC right on my beside table - I'm a total zombie when I have to get up early, and we had a super early flight. I called the hotel, who luckily enough had not cleaned our room yet - but they apparently never recovered my necklace. I was pretty devastated - that necklace was a gift from Nick our first Christmas together, and it had a lot of sentimental value. I wore it every day, and last Christmas he bought me earrings to match it. I was trying not to let it get me down on our first day of the trip, but it was tough. Nick felt terrible and repeatedly reassured me that we would replace the necklace later. I forced myself to let it go and enjoy the rest of our day at MK but my neck felt very bare for the rest of the trip!

After a fun afternoon at the Magic Kingdom, we headed back to the Contemporary Resort for dinner at The Wave, which I had been really looking forward to. I will say right off the service was TERRIBLE, but Nick and I are still planning to eat there again on our next trip. It seriously took us over two hours to eat dinner, the service was that slow. We waited forever just to place our order, forever for the food to come, forever for drink refills, etc etc. It was excruciating. That said, the food was seriously delicious. My mom and I couldn't decide what to order so between the two of us we ordered the pork tenderloin and the beef something or other (maybe tenderloin also?) and shared. Both were absolutely fantastic. The desserts are great here too, you choose an assortment of small desserts. Nick and I ordered different trios and shared, and I can't remember what the heck they all were, but there was some wonderful stuff in there and I do have a picture!

All in all, we will give this place another shot and just brace ourselves for a long night. I think that much of a wait on the first night of our trip was just not a good scene. We had all been up since 430 and we weren't up for a marathon meal. I'm hoping part of the problem was that the restaurant was brand new and still working out the kinks.

All in all, knee injury and missing necklace aside, a pretty magical first day!

Up next, a big surprise in store at the Animal Kingdom...

You are off to a great start! The view from your room was amazing!:thumbsup2 Sorry about the necklace though. :( That is a bummer, but at least you were able to cheer up at the Happiest Place on Earth!

My favorite park at Disney is the Animal Kingdom, so I was extremely excited to be headed there bright and early the second day of our trip!

Once in the park I thought the plan was to head right to Kilimanjaro Safari or Expedition Everest to get a FP, but strangely everyone else in the group insisted that we beeline right for Dinosaur. Now, that happens to be my favorite ride in Disney, but (weirdly) it never seems to have much of a wait, so I was completely fine with doing something else first. But, everyone swore they wanted to go to Dinosaur, so off we went.

I really, really love this ride. I was so psyched to jump on that it didn't even strike me as odd when my brother (Mr. Attached-at-the-hip-with-his-gf) suggested that we sit boys vs girls rather than in our couples. Us girls jumped into the front row of our time rover and the guys piled into the back.

After the ride, we rushed over to the monitors to check out our picture (I'm a total sucker for buying these things, I try to resist but Disney totally gets me every time). I saw something up near Nick's face in our picture, and for about half a second I thought the camera had messed up our picture... and then I realized that Nick was holding this up in the picture:

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

In the split second that I realized this, I whirled around to see Nick down on one knee holding out a beautiful diamond ring! :lovestruc

I yelped out a yes before he'd even gotten out the full question, much to the amusement of my family. I grabbed him so quick this was the best photo that was captured of the moment:

DSCN3858.jpg

and a split second later:

DSCN3859.jpg

Nick laughingly said that I said yes so fast that he didn't get a chance to say what he had planned to! Oops! I made him say it anyway and it was very very sweet. :lovestruc

It really was absolutely fantastic... truly magical and I was caught 100% off guard which was wonderful. I am the world's biggest Disney freak and for me a Disney proposal was a dream come true. Apparently Nick had decided on a Disney proposal months earlier and had been planning ever since. I actually got a little teary when he actually did it because it was just so perfect!

I also loved that my whole family was involved in the proposal... my mom helped Nick make the banner weeks before the trip, and had been carrying my ring around in her purse so I wouldn't find it in Nick's suitcase! My brother had the banner folded up in his cargo pants pocket until we got on the ride, and his gf and my mom both immediately started snapping pictures once the moment actually came.

After that I was pretty much floating on air and we still had the rest of the morning at my favorite Disney park!

First things first Nick and I headed over to Guest Relations and got our pins:

We took some pictures with the PhotoPass people:

(I find this picture to be kind of strange but at least you can see my ring!)

and went on all the rest of the rides at Animal Kingdom, and soon enough it was time to head over to MGM (sorry, that's all I will ever call it!) for our ADR at Mama Melrose. We were all pretty excited for this reservation as we're all pretty fond of pasta dishes.

Here we all are at dinner (my mom's finally pictured! She usually tries her best to be BEHIND the camera):

DSCN3968.jpg

This place was great! Nice atmosphere, great food, awesome service. This will definitely be a must for our future trips. We all had different dishes and they were all excellent.

After Mama Melrose we headed back to the hotel for a little downtime... or so I thought! The minute we walked in the door Nick pulled me upstairs and told me to pack a bag - very mysterious! I packed for an overnight, my family told us goodnight, and NIck called us a cab to the Yacht & Beach Club, my favorite Disney hotel! :cloud9:

(Not anticipating our upgrade at BLT, Nick had booked a room at the Y&B for the night of our proposal so we could have some time to ourselves - how thoughtful is that?! He really thought of everything.)

A few more surprises were waiting for me at the hotel when we arrived! Nick had booked a 1 BR villa, which is what we stayed in at the Y&B on our February trip. I walked into the room to this:

I was completely blown away and once again a little teary eyed! The whole day was just so incredibly special, and I was so touched by how much effort and planning Nick obviously put into the whole experience. I felt like he made my proposal last all day and all night, and we got so many great memories out of it! We ended up walking over to Epcot at 9 to watch Illuminations, and then we spent the rest of the night relaxing in the room. It was the perfect end to the best day I've ever spent in Disney. :lovestruc

Hi, Kim! What an adorable proposal story! DBF has gotten more than a healthy amount of hints that Disney would be the best proposal spot for me haha.
Can't wait for the rest!

OMGosh, this thread totally caught me off guard:

1) I loved BLT when it opened but we've never stayed...lots of different opinions, but I always thought the 3 B Villa would be the PERFECT way to spend time there, WITH a MK view...!

2) You guys have great pictures of all of that & your dining experience info ...can't wait to hear more

3) Totally blown away with the cool way your DBF/DF did the marriage proposal!!

4) the room thing is spectacular!!

Kim -- How can this thread get any better?? :woohoo:

I'll keep checking in...Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks for reading along! The necklace was definitely a bummer but Nick has since replaced it so it's ok... it was hard to stay sad in Disney, especially once that ring made an appearance!! ;)

I'm in and loving it! Your proposal story made my teary-eyed! Congratulations!

Thanks for following! He did good huh? :goodvibes

Hi, thanks for reading! I really liked the BLT... the price will probably keep me away but if not for that I would book it again in a heartbeat. The MK view was phenomenal! And the room upgrade - I'll never top that! (Between that and the proposal, how can we ever compete with this trip?!)

Congratulations. What a great job he did.He thought of everything.I like your idea. Thanks for sharing.
