"Dream Weavers" September 1, 2011

We just got home last Monday night from Marathon weekend at Disney. Dale and I did our first full marathon. What an amazing experience! The blisters are healing and my swollen feet are getting back to normal and I'm actually considering doing this again! I really enjoyed it more than the 1/2 with going through all four parks. I was bad though and only trained to 15 miles (I've been in school, working and dealing with family issues) so training got pushed to the back burner. I want to do it again and do it right. (not sure I'm actually thinking clearly, cause I said (as hubby did), "One and Done" afterwards!

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

To you Marathoners, we have been volunteers at the Disney Marathon weekend for years. We do both days, either bag check, water stop, or check-in tent. You runners are an INSPIRATION to us (we?) volunteers! Last year's weather was so cold and awful, but this time it was lovely. Good job to all finishers, and even the "attempters"!

We had a very large DISboard group run the Castaway Cay 5k on our Christmas cruise. DCL apparently no longer gives out certificates or water bottles for finishers, but one of our DISboarders printed and mailed adorable certificates to the runners. I hope we can get a group together on this cruise for the CC5k.

To folks concerned about the weather; we have had rough seas on 2 of our cruises (in December and January), and 20 foot seas on this last one (to the point where the Captain had to announce that we were in no danger, despite the loud crashes and bangs of waves breaking against the ship). All the water flew out of the Goofy pool! :scared1: It was a bit rocky, yet if you stayed in the center of the ship, it was pretty stable. We have a few in our group who are prone to sea-sickness, and even they were fine without any medication. The Captain slowed us way down and made it much better, then made up time during the night so we were reasonably on time for CC.

Wow, a 5k? This may be the motivation I need to finally get off my behind and start getting in some semblance of a shape! I am the type who gets out of breath running for the phone in the same room. So, any advice as to how to begin? Is there time? I have very little free time, but may be able to follow a simple program. Can I start training by walking? :rotfl:

Debbie, an awesome program for new runners is C25K (couch to 5K). It pretty much takes someone who hasn't run at all and teaches them how to get started. At the end of the nine weeks (I believe it was nine weeks) you should be able to run (or run/walk) a 5K.

Thanks Patricia, I will look into it :goodvibes

Walking is EXCELLENT training. I know this because all I do is walk (not run), and yet when I went to "try" the CC5k I was able to run almost all of it, although at a very slow pace. Our DISboard group formed a "Back of the Pack" club ("BOTP") and had T-shirts printed, etc, so there was a huge group of walkers-only, and then some others who alternated running and walking. You are allowed off the ship first, with the crew, and the course is a very pretty loop around the paths of CC. No one keeps time, so it is very low stress and at your own pace. Some of our BOTP folks cut off some of the loops to make it shorter which they prefered. So it is a very fun thing to try, and no worries if you don't actually run, or go the whole way. It starts and ends at the ship. :yay:

Oh my Liz, I love that idea (back of the pack) as I walk way more than run. I'm only 5'4" and hubby is 6' and I have SHORT legs, so i have to really move even walking to keep up with his stride. There are a lot of walkers in the 1/2 and full marathon also.

:yay: I'm in! :yay: I know I can walk 5k. I like walking. I am still going to give the C25K a look, though, because it sounds intriguing! Thanks ladies!!:flower3:

Jeff and Val will be on board too.

We were originally booked on a 10/6 3-night, but decided that we preferred to be at WDW for the Food & Wine Festival then. So we just switched to this cruise. TA is doing the re-booking right now.

This will be our 4th DCL cruise. Did a 7-night in 2001, PodCast Cruise 1.0 in May 2010 and PodCast Cruise 2.0 in December 2011.

Welcome!!!! I wish I could go on PodCast 3.0 since they are finally having it at a time that I am off work, but it will be so hard to justify spending all the money to go back to America again within one year! If only I could know if Pod Cast Cruise 4.0 was also going to be in the summertime!

Val & I will be on PCC 3.0. I'm expecting that PCC 4.0 will be in December 2012, and yes, we'll probably be on that one too!

Hey guys. I have only been home from my Western cruise for a week and I am ready to be back. I have finally started my Trip Report (our own Patty shows up in it) and almost done unpacking.

I rebooked this cruise on board and got a $100 stateroom credit. If anyone sees this and has not yet booked send me a message cause I have a $100 onboard certificate for a friend that I got when I re booked. I tried to give it to Patty, but it won't work if they are already are booked (sorry again Patty).

We also booked the 4 night cruise after this one!!! I am so excited a week on the magic!!

That is so nice! We are already booked, so can't take advantage of it.

On another note, what is a "Pod Cast Cruise"? I have never heard of that!

Yeah that is what I ment...Guess my mind is still on the Magic from last week! LOL

I am sure OKW Lover will enlighten us more while I eat my heart out! But in the meantime I will put it simply. The owners of these boards and Dreams Unlimited have an awesome podcast each week about all things Disney, and they arrange events throughout the year, the most awesome being the cruises!:goodvibes

That's a pretty good summary Debsters41. :boat:

We went on the first Pod Cast Cruise (PCC 1.0) along with about 300 other DIS'ers and had a ball. Just last month they ran PCC 2.0, this time with about 600 of your closest friends. In addition to the novelty of just going on the cruise and getting some face time with other DIS'ers, there were special events and speakers. We had two guys from Disney's early days talk about what it was like working with Walt. There was also a special concert just for us by Jody Benson (the singing voice of the Little Mermaid). Add a private party at Castaway Cay and a chance to chat with the podcasters in person and you've got a wonderful trip.

wow I don't check in for days and I am behind 2 pages.

I am in the process of getting all our documents together for passports. We are taking the kids in February when they are off from school and DH and I can both go.

Also gearing up to potty train the little one who is 3 and on the autism spectrum. DD is so excited about the cruise so that makes me happy. I am sure DS will like it too.

Just finished booking the lead up to the cruise by adding 2 more days at AKV starting on 8/26

We are at Kidani Village prior to the cruise checking in 8/25. My DD 9 (almost 10) is super excited about the cruise too. This will be our first cruise. I hope we all like it.

We passed the seven month marked and I 'forgot' to post!!! Counting down. Considering we booked this almost a year ago, I am so excited it's finally getting here.
