Dream July 27, 2012 5 night

Andrea -- we only did an hour and that was good enough for us, but I don't think it's an issue to add time at all (I think they would just charge you at drop off if it ends up being longer... it really seemed low-key -- we weren't anxious to get back "in time").

Let's see how many pics I can share:

I've read good things about eating gluten free on board and we have experienced first had how well they do GF at Disneyland so I'm hopeful! Hopefully you won't be let down for your DD's allergy either (especially since it sounds like she may have anaphylaxis to peanuts which is no laughing matter).

Thanks for the bike info and the photos! I want to be there now!!

I have explained the whole FE idea to my family and they all agree that we want to participate. They are excited and counting down the days. We are on Deck 10.

I'm Cinnamon and our room number is #7554. My hubby (Tad) DS (Skyler) and DD (Lila) are starting to get really excited... and we are already planning fun FE things...

Anyone here cruised this area in the summer before (or otherwise traveled/live there)? How miserably hot is it really going to be? I'm a west coast girl (SF Bay area now, LA area as a kid) so the humidity alone is going to be an adjustment for us. What about rain? I know its during hurricane season but assuming we don't have one of those how likely is rain to ruin some of our plans?

My DH and I have cruised the Caribbean twice before in mid-summer. It was a LONG time ago.... before children. On one cruise, we got a brief rain shower on a beach but it passed quickly. On another cruise, there was a tropical storm in the area and our route among the Lesser Antilles was reversed to avoid the worst of the storm. That was the only rain that I can remember. I don't remember the heat being too much worse than Florida heat - just hot and humid. In one of the main squares in Nassau, there were historic cannons which I thought would make a good picture. However, the black cannons were so hot that you couldn't even rest your hands on them. So, it's definitely smart to be prepared for hot weather as best as you can be.

The weather? Please note: This comes from a texan - so heat doesn't scare me. IMHO, I think it just feels like a summer vacation. Evenings are comfy, if a bit 'sticky.' Two summers ago we were in atlantis at the same time; we got short, sweet showers each afternoon, but they were actually a welcomed part of the vacation. Shower was over - back to the slides/rides we'd go! There were no storms that changed our plans. My only trick? A good hat :)

BTW, thanks for the bike picurres, Julie. Now I want to do that ;)

The biking looks fabulous. My hubby and I are planning on doing the Castaway Cay 5k though!! I am a bit scared of running in such heat, but I will definitely wear a hat and lots of sweatproof sunscreen.

I need to order my FE now, as I don't have one. Excited that our group here is expanding. :)

For those of you with little ones, the minimal height requirement for AquaDuck was changed last year. It used to be 48" and that's what I have seen on various boards. The official 2012 planning DVD says that the minimal height is now 42". They still have to ride with someone at that size but at least they can ride. To ride alone, they have to be at least 54".

Since we are embarking on the day of the Olympics Opening Ceremony, do you think that there will be any coverage of the Olympics on the ship? I read recently that some other cruise lines will provide live satellite coverage.

I was totally thinking the same thing about the Olympics. I'm sure there will be coverage in the 6-8-7 lounge (it's the sports lounge). I wonder if the cruise line will do anything to commemorate the Olympics -- like all of the nations uniting on the ship (past cruises I have been on, they tend to throw out statistics of how many nationalities are represented in terms or crew and passengers... can't remember if it was on the DCL or RCL sailing or both).

I would venture to guess that they will show something on the big screen up on deck some of the time.

Now that school is nearly at an end, we are turning our attention to fun stuff for the FE. When is the FE group usually finalized? We are starting to plan and are wondering when we will know how many cabins/people are in the group.

I vote that we look at finalizing the FE group ASAP, so that we all have time to plan. :).

Cctimmom, would you mind doing a final spreadsheet for the FE, so we can finalize it, and start working on our goodies?? Thanks :)

I can repost, but it hasn't changed from Post #58, other than I forgot to add Galatea's total to be 7.

One big note... I am showing 11 DISers with screen names have posted on here, however I do not know if everyone definitely decided if they were participating in the FE. Today or tomorrow, I can send PMs to everyone and see if I can get anything final.

So I'll wait and repost after I can see if I can get everyone's final buy-in...

If all 11 families participate, and if the numbers haven't changed, we would have 30 Adults, 5 Teens (ages 13-17) and 15 Children.

I sent out private messages to everyone that is on the roll call two days ago.

I have only heard back from three -- well, me... and pjc4925 (Paul) and jacquieone (Jacquie).

Hopefully we'll hear from a few more before the beginning of next week and we can finalize the list!

As a newbie, I didn't notice that I had a private message waiting for me. Then when I tried to reply, I wasn't able to because I hadn't posted at least 10 times yet. Other newbies may have the same problem.
