We will be going on our first cruise on the Disney Dream in August with and 8 and 6yr old and I'm debating between stateroom 6510 ocean view with 2 portholes or 10664 with the extended Verandah, or if there are any other suggestions. Any suggests would be greatly appreciated! :)

Book the OV. Due to kids, Imo.

Two huge portholes they can stand in. Priceless.

Trust me.

6510 , sleeps 4, so does 10664 though. , but that cabin is a veranda on the aft, which may have vibrations at times.

If in 6510 no worries about vibrations, ever. Or kids and veranda.
The wake does generate noise in 10664 . Some love it. some don't.

You have young kids. Book a quiet room. IMO.

6510 has no split bath however, 10664 does have a split bath, which is a big consideration.
6510 has no privacy curtain though. But has two huge portholes.
10664 will have a privacy curtain and a split bath.

10664; veranda, split bath, and possible vibrations, close to food/buffet above. Aft access is always sweet.

6510; larger room space. Two huge windows to use regardless of sea state / winds.
Closer to adult pool, coffee, adult space, etc.
No split bath.

If 6510 no worries about exhaust particles in am on veranda. This point should be given very little consideration. FWIW

Split bath may be worth any vibrations.
The curtain is nice too.

Maybe I am changing my mind. Lol.

This decision is a tough one.

I still lean to two huge porthole room, if you can deal with one bathroom. The windows are incredible.
Forward no vibrations.

Good luck with decision.

This is just one POV. fwiw
BTW, Welcome to the Disboards. :welcome:

My biggest concern with 10664 would be potential noise from Cabanas above.

We just completed 2 cruises in 8188 and 8682, both aft. The soot was barely noticeable but I didn't want to go outside without some type of shoe on because I am prissy like that. Once in a while you might get a little bit of exhaust smell. We did notice the vibrations in the aft rooms. Make sure you have the closet doors closed, clothes hangers separated, and the safe door locked.

I don't know about the cost difference and what you plan out of your vacation. If you are planning excursions and time off the boat, the double porthole can be a really fun choice. But for me and my wife, we will take the privacy curtain when with our son. It allows him some darkness while we stay up later.

I don't know if the Dream is similar to the Fantasy in this aspect but we were in 10030 on the fantasy and had a verandah room but our view of any sky was blocked by a huge white ceiling that extend out beyond out balcony which I am thinking were the extended suite balconies above us. It really disrupted out view and was quite disappointing. Not sure if your room will have that issue or not but worth finding out. ON the positive side the quick stair access to the 11th deck is very convenient.

That is quite true for rooms on the side of the ship. The room the original poster is looking at on deck 10 is all the way aft. It has an extended oversized balcony, so while there is some over hang, the area by the railing is free of obstruction looking up.

I would book the oceanview room. Having the verandah increases the odds of one (or both) of you children falling over the side of the ship.

Thank you all so much for the pros and cons! I decided to go with 6510 with the 2 portholes! While the verandah sounds wonderful and I am second guessing myself lol it's a short cruise and don't think we will be in the room that much. I think I would be nervous with the kids around the verandah. But then there is the privacy curtain issue, it will be me, grandma and two kids, but I'm sure we can make it work. Lol Thanks again and thanks for the welcome! We are excited and can't wait til August!!

We went last year with an 8 and almost 6 year old. We had 1 oversize porthole. They loved it. DS played with his wrestlers and big hero 6 in it and was so happy. Dd liked hanging out in it. Next year we are doing a verandah because dh really wants to . I'm worried they will miss the port hole.

We had 10664 on the Fantasy last June and would happily book it again. We took the stairs by the room and found ourselves right in Cabanas. Very convenient, and we never heard any noise from above. The view was nice - no obstructions. I know you are on the Dream, but the deck plans are comparable and should provide you the same fabulous vacation we had. Only 3 weeks until our cruise on the Magic!

Could you tell me what muster station location you had for 10664? I've done a search and found an old thread stating it was in The Tube. Is that still correct? We have this stateroom booked for January 2017.

You know... Technically one could *make* a privacy curtain for 6510, given that the ceilings are magnetic, if one were concerned about it. Just sew magnets into the top of a sheet or four and pack them in luggage. Attach to the ceiling when you get to the room. I'm honestly surprised nobody has ever done it.

We've been in 6512 on the fantasy and it was fantastic, wouldn't book a higher category again. It was just so big it was a pleasure to be in the room when we were tired.

It was at the Tube.

Hmm... How strong would the magnets have to be to hold that weight?

I have no idea. Depends on how much it weighs. Just get some rare earth magnets and sew them into the sheet(s). You can test it by sticking it to the washing machine and pulling, or someone could stand on a ladder and hold something metal and stick it to it. The more magnets the less weight each one will be bearing.

I would do 6510 - but I LOVE being in the forward section of the ship. Even midship is too far back for me.

I do love being higher up, but forward will always win over level up for me.

Easier still, get a lightweight fabric shower curtain, a few magnetic hooks (like for refrigerators) and you're good to go!
