Dream 5516, Cat 8D-Murphy bed?

We booked a 8B on deck 9 forward for our next cruise. We did not book this until a few weeks after the itineraries were released. But I thought there were more than 4 8B staterooms in that area? I am counting 12 in total.

You are correct, there are: 9000-9010 and 9500-9510, so 12 in total. However, on every cruise I looked at when doing my research about cat 8s, the rooms 9002, 9004 and 9502 and 9504 were not available, even when I was looking at the cruises early in the day when booking opened to the public. At first I thought oh, they're just booked; but then I checked lots and lots of cruises and they were all the same: those rooms were not available. Which led me to the conclusion that they must initially be blocked from booking by DCL for some reason.

OP: It appears 5516 on the Dream MAY only hold 4, though there is another explanation (read further).

I went and priced a dummy cruise for the December 1 2017 sailing of the Dream.

When I put in 5 adults, the only deluxe oceanview family staterooms that were available were on decks 7, 8, 9.

When I changed it to 4 adults, decks 5 and 6 had availability, INCLUDING room 5516.

This SUGGESTS the room only holds 4, though doesn't say whether that is because there is a murphy bed and no pull down, or a pull down and no murphy.

However, there is an alternate explanation: if that area's muster station has already hit its limit it may not be able to hold a room of 5 but could hold a room of 4 or less.

I think you have two options to determine the configuration: play around with dummy bookings until you are satisfied you have seen enough available with 4 but not 5 -- though this doesn't resolve the MB question for certain. Or call DCL directly and ask them yourself. Or email them. The information is available to them, though as another poster pointed out it is possible to still get incorrect information.

added - I also checked on the Fantasy for one of our December 2017 sailings: same result, with 5 people you only get decks 7,8,9; with 4 you also get 5 and 6, and 5516 is one of the options.

Now you see my confusion!!! I also tried to book 5 and this cabin did not show up either. How can Fantasy have it and Dream not? So, we need someone who has stayed in this cabin to confirm that there is or isn't the bed. It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice to know for sure. Question: Do some cabins have the murphy bed, but NOT the upper berth, which would explain why it sleeps 4, not 5.

When I checked the fantasy with 5 people you can only book on decks 7 8 and 9 for deluxe family oceanview stateroom. when i checked for 4 people then decks 5 and 6 became available and 5516 was one of those choices then. so for the fantasy it is the same as the dream: for the cruises i checked, you cannot book 5516 with 5 people but can with 4 people.

Yes, there are some rooms that have the murphy but no upper bunk.

So I conclude that the room reports that say Fantasy 5516 sleeps 5 with an upper berth and murphy bed = sleeps 5 may be incorrect? I may call Disney myself.

I believe if the stateroom has the word "family" in the name, it fits 5 people (for example "Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom"). "Family" rooms are about 3 feet longer to accommodate the murphy bed.

Not so. On our Fantasy B2B we were in 2 different Deluxe Family Oceanview with verandah rooms. One of them slept 5 (queen, sofa, bunk, Murphy):

The other only slept 4 (queen, sofa, bunk - note a chair where the Murphy bed was in the other room):

DCL sure does make it challenging, figuring berths, don't they.

They could make this easy if they wanted.
It's obvious they could care less unfortunately.

Why don't they have a list of cabins with berths?

You have to wonder.

We have been requesting one for 18 years.

They must know what they are doing, right.

ETA; BTW OP; Dream Class, 5516, Cat 8d, has all beds, therefore sleeps 5. Enjoy

Doesn't 5516 have a large porthole w/seat too? It's a large port hole window is it not?
The view is blocked forward by the vessel structure, if you look that way. Slightly obstructed if you look down too. Aren't most cabins , Jezebel.
That's why the cabin cost less, nooo.
Great views straight out. Just like most balconies.

Enjoy.
