It can be hard to relate to the non-twitterpated why one is willing to spend more money just to stay on-property rather than booking a better room for less money off-property. The only thing I can offer as help is that my two stays at POR (and all the other Disney resorts I've enjoyed) granted something no off-property can match: eye candy.
Nothing that greets the eye while staying at a Disney resort is accidental. What you see, hear and smell has been set up by design. The results of this work is often taken for granted. The reasons for how the resorts effect the senses is often not obvious or well understood so as to be offered as a logical reason why the resorts offer the magic touch. Often the beauty looks "natural", but it is really hyper-natural. (can't really use the term supra-natural I guess). It is impossible to relate how this makes one feel and why this makes one willing to pay more for it, but it just happens that way.
By booking the POR you do not have to leave the magic at the parks. Although it just sounds like a sloggan or an advertisement jingle, the magic actually does comes back with you to the resort. You have access to the best ways to get to and from the parks. You have the Disney touch to the restaurants and food courts. You get the eye candy, the nose candy and the sounds candy...it's all in there. It all adds up to something unique.
I stayed at one of the best Hampton Inns in the nation on first day arrival in Fla. just so I could arrive for check in at the crack of dawn at the Polynesian the next morning. The HI Main Gate is just across the street from Celebration. It is plush and beautiful. The room space and quality matches or tops many of the Disney Delux resorts, but only at a third of the price. As good a deal as it was, it just wasn't the same as staying on-property. It was still just another typical yet high quality Hampton Inn, nothing more. They know it is too otherwise their rates would have reflected it.
