Has anyone use Dramamine before? I have never had an issue with motion sickness (other than after Mission Space!) but I flew two times in the past month and both times I felt AWFUL at the landings. I don't know if it was particularly rough flights or if I'm just getting old :) (I'm not sick or pregnant BTW!) I have another flight in 2 weeks and bought Dramamine. I brought the "less drowsy" formula. I'm wondering if anyone else has used this product and if so...how drowsy do you get?

I won't fly without taking dramamine..... In my old age (40's), flying doesn't agree with me anymore either. We just got back from Universal and I took a dramamine every morning so I could do the rides too. I only take one and was not drowsy at all. I made the mistake of taking two last time I flew and that made me drowsy.

I haven't tried Dramamine. I use Bonine. I am not sure how similar the ingredients are, but the Bonine are little chewable tablets. Work well for me without being drowsy :)

I normally don't use either Dramimine or Bonine. However, the 2 times that I did try Dramimine I found that it made be very (!!!!!) tired. So make sure that whatever you buy is a non-drowsy formula.

The active ingredient in the "less-drowsy" Dramamine is the same as Bonine. For me, Bonine works well, and didn't seem to make me drowsy.

Remember to take it well before the activity that you need it for. You may want to test it on yourself before your flight, to make sure there aren't any other side-effects.

Dramamine II and Bonine both are good for 24 hours. I take Bonine about an hour before I go to bed.

One of the regular kind dulls my sences nicely ("oh look, I'm stabbing a fork into my leg."). I have never taken the less drowsy version, but imagine that it would probably work ar well. Just be sure to give it time to start working before you take-off.

Have fun!

Stupid question- as I'm sure it's on the box- but when do you take it prior to a flight/going on rides? I did get the Less Drowsy formula which was the exact same ingrediants as Bonine. My next flight (from Boston-San Diego), I'm flying alone so I'd rather not be feeling loopy!!!!

I have taken the less-drowsy Dramamine about 30mins before taking off on my flight. I found the less drowsy still made me a bit sleepy so I broke them in half and took only half and that worked fine. I have also tried the chewables (in a pinch) and they don't taste good but if you need it and don't have a drink then it works fine.

Good luck!

My daughter has motion sickness - not bad - drivng through the mountains and on airplanes - not normal driving - she has used meds since high school with no problems. My last dog had God awful motion sickness problems - you couldn't go 2 blocks wihtout her losing her cookies so to speak and since she was 75 lbs. as an adult - it was a mess - the vet had me give her Dramamine - we actually bought the Walmart Equate brand and it really helped - she still got a little foamy mouthed - but no upchucking. She only went on essential car rides - we had tried throughout her puppyhood to see if she would "outgrow" the problem - never happened.

I take a couple of regular Dramamine before flying - just in case! I like that it makes my sleepy so I can doze my way to Disney. Once I wake up, I'm usually alert for the rest of the day. My DH and I also take a Bonine every AM before heading to the parks to be sure the rides don't bother us. I'll ride anything but the simulator rides and for someone who gets dizzy on a swingset, I'm pretty happy with the results.

For the question on how to treat a child, it gets a bit tricky.

The directions indicate that Bonine (meclizine) should not be used on children under age 12 (unless directed by a doctor).

So, your options lessen.

- You can use Original Dramamine (dimenhydrinate), but at either half or quarter-dose (depending on age - details on box).
Similarly, you could administer the chewable Dramamine in the same way (since it is also dimenhydrinate-based).
- There is also now a "Bonine for kids," which uses cyclizine as its active ingredient, and can be given to children 6 and over. This worked well for our DD7, though she still didn't find the taste very agreeable.

I would humbly suggest not giving the original Dramamine pill to a child; I would suggest the chewables instead, if you have to go that route. My sister and I still reminisce about how Mom gave us Dramamine hidden in Devil Dogs - she won't touch a Devil Dog to this day!

Dramamine totally knocks me out and not for a nap, for half a day or more! I took it on a cruise one time and lost most of a whole day and then felt hung over after I woke up. Yuck.

Discovered Bonine and loved it. Does not make me feel weird or 'medicine head' at all. Worked like a dream. DH and I both took it on a particularly rocky cruise, real nasty weather that forced the ship into an unscheduled port. Anyway, we were among only 10 people (I am not kidding) that made it to the dining room for dinner. We took the Bonine earlier and were still quite fine.

On air trips when I want to sleep, like trips to Europe where there is a time difference, I take antihistimine like Benadryl caps, but the generic. My doctor said it is the same ingredient that is in Tylenol PM, only without the Tylenol. It works like a charm. I do need to take more fluids than usual though to avoid dehydration.

Hope you have a magical trip!

Bonine doesn't make you sleepy and my husband has used it on all of our 9 trips and he doesn't get sleepy. My kids have used it too on the trip down and back. Use dramamine if you want them to sleep though!!
