dr visit..would this make you nuts??

My 2.5 year old was born with hypospadias, he is classically autistic and now it has become obvious he is no longer growing. He has seen a geneticist at nemours twice in the past 3 months, they have measured him on ACTUAL MEASURING EQUIPMENT and both times he was 32.5. He was there Monday and that was when the second measurement was taken. The geneticist says he needs to see an endocrinologist. So I took him to a(new)pediatrician in the office we go to(19 years experience but new to the office)to get a referral to the endo(can you say HMO) so the nurse lays my son down and draws aline by his head and one by his feet as he is squirming and says he is 34.5 inches!I asked her to DO IT AGAIN BUT SHE SAID SHED JUST MAKE A NOTE THAT THE MEASUREMENTS DIFFERED. sO THE DOCTOR PLOTTED HIM ON THE CHART WITH THAT MEASUREMENT AND WAS ARGUING WITH ME THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH HIS GROWTH. sO A NURSES FREEHAND LINE IS MORE ACCURATE THEN EQUIPMENT AND ONE OF THE FINEST HILDRENS DIAGNOSTIC CENTERS IN THE COUNTRY!!!Any way because he has not gained any weight in a year and a half, she will refer him. Then when she kept trying to talk to him and he wouldnt look at her, shes saying whats wrong is he tired? No hes autistic!!!!!!!!!!!!Anyway sorry so long and thanks for the vent.

I'm sorry you had that experience, and I am glad you got the referral. Hopefully you won't have to deal with them again.

I'm sorry that the Dr. and nurse were nuts. Hmo's are a pain but you keep pushing for what your son needs.

what an idiot... don't people have common sense? I'd be pretty infuriated too. Kind of makes you feel like grabbing them firmly by the shoulders, shaking them repeatedly back and forth and screaming, "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH OF A MORON YOU ARE???"

Then they'd write you up in the chart that you are a difficult person to deal with and you'll become blacklisted from all doctors offices, just like that one Seinfeld episode!
