That just doesn't seem right IMO.

If Dr. Lee was just doing the shows as "Training Videos" to only be shown to Medical Students the free care only would be appropriate I think.

But this is a FOR PROFIT TV show-if someone is going to allow something so personal as a huge Lipoma being removed from their rear to be shown on TV,they should receive a nice "appearance fee" in addition to the free care and travel expenses.

I was watching a show on the 1990s and they were talking about the show Cops. Everyone one of those people arrested signs a release allowing the video of them getting arrest to be aired........for ZERO compensation.
"Hey mom, I'm going to be on Cops being arrested for beating my spouse"

Not sure....our insurance system is a mess, and her charges were not excessive.

It's actually very common with dermatologists; mine won't process insurance, either. (When I say cash, I mean payment up-front; it doesn't have to be actual untraceable currency. I normally pay it with a credit card that earns points.)

Most US health insurance policies have very restrictive limitations when it comes to dermatology coverage, most policies fully exclude payment for anything that is classed as cosmetic-only. My dermatologist stopped working with insurance companies several years ago because the administrative cost to have people do the paperwork was quite high, and in probably 90% of cases the insurance refused coverage anyway, which sometimes meant sending the patient to debt collection to get paid. Now she gets paid up-front, I submit the paperwork to the insurance company myself for covered treatments, and the insurance company deals with paying me back. (I have a congenital skin condition that causes pain, and back when she did work with insurance companies, this doctor fought for months to get my insurance to cover treatment for it. They do cover it for me now (as out-of-network), and I stick with her, because she cares. (This doc [not the one on this TV show] is actually rather well-known as a cosmetic dermatologist now; I'm one of her few remaining non-cosmetic patients from the old days.)

I like the show, my girls would watch it with me and they at one point wanted to be dermatologists after watching it. She was chosen for the show because she went viral for her pimple popping videos on YouTube and TV producers took notice. She seems like a very caring doctor and a lot of her patients have been struggling to pay for or get care, I’m happy to see how their lives have changed for the better.

I love this show. I went to a dermatologist and had them remove a skin tag or a blood vessel. Was $15 under insurance. I think they put in and said it could be cancerous to get around having them pay for most of it.

I don't get the controversy? I know that in America, there is no socialised health care, meaning that for some procedures you pay through the nose, assuming your (possibly expensive) insurance won't cover it. Why not get the treatment done for free? Even if it means appearing on TV? If you don't mind the media exposure and just want to get a monkey off your back, so be it!

That one is even more breathtaking - I almost physically feel the pain of some of those shocking cases. Who among us can’t relate, at least a little bit? Imagine having to gut-it-out every day with your feet feeling like you’ve just done 12 hours at WDW on hot pavement in bad sandals?

I also find it really interesting that the doctors have specialized in this; who knew there was so much to know about feet? It’s not a very glamorous branch of medicine.

I agree. It is amazing how bad some people's feet are. I had a foot surgery about 27 years ago, so that is why I am so fascinated. So many bones in the foot too! I hope there is a new season soon.

I saw on an episode last night for the first time a Patient not be available for the end of show update report.

Dr. Lee just said he had not made himself available for the update report and they hoped he was doing good and they wish him the best!lol

It is one of my favorite shows! They are all people with no insurance so they go on there for the free medical care- they get travel, hotel and free medical care.
