Don't you have to pay extra for texting service or is it attached to all plans.

WHY do parents allow kids to text and drive?

I don't think they ALLOW it, I just don't think it's taken that seriously. You automatically get a fine in the UK and I think they're adding it to the offenses that gets you points on your license in the UK.

I get a certain number of minutes and a certain number of texts as part of my cell phone contract, but some contracts offer unlimited texts. I really don't see what's so important that I couldn't wait to pull over and send a text, though.

That mother was spineless. Do you wanna bet that her daughter had her cell phone back in her hands by the end of the day?

We don't have texting in our plan- we have to pay additional for each text. Dh and I don't text. We barely know how to check our voice mail. DD is threatened that if she uses text the future of cell phone is in peril.

That young lady makes me so mad! :headache: I can't believe how know it all she is. She won't learn till she gets in to an accident. :sad2: Her mother needs to buckle down and get serious. I blame her mom for not being firm.

I can't be on my cell phone...period, and drive. I always have to pull over when making or receiving a call otherwise I just let my voicemail pick it up. :rolleyes1

That daughter's attitude was unbelievable!:sad2:

I'll bet that mom is sorry she ever went on the Dr. Phil Show. If she is so upset about her daughter's driving habits she should do one of two things.

#1 Take her cell phone away.

#2 Take the car keys!

Sometimes you have to do things whether your kids will be mad at you or not!

I didn't see the show, but texting while driving is believed to be the cause of a terrible accident outside of Rochester, NY this summer.

Just after graduation, 5 beautiful girls were headed out to a party at a cottage. The driver passed a vehicle on a 2-lane road, returned to her lane, and for some unknown reason, swerved back into the lane of oncoming traffic. They were hit by a tractor-trailer.

All 5 girls died. No alcohol or drugs were involved. But 30 seconds before the first 911 call came in, the driver sent a text message to a friend.

::yes::

If something happens, the mother should be held just as accountable as the daughter. Who is running that family? She's an adult. She's supposed to be responsible for what that child is allowed to do.

Why did no one suggest taking the car away from that child? She's only been able to drive for 4 months. It's not like her lifestyle has been dependant on having that car. :sad2: If she needs the phone that much, then she shouldn't have access to a car. It's a privilege to drive a car. The choice is simple. She can WALK & text. She can text her friends to pick her up.

I'm guilty of reading a couple texts when I'm driving... :(
I don't text back until I stop, and I always feel like I've done something horrible when I read them. I should really stop.

My boyfriend used to text and drive, but I managed to get him to stop.

My phone doesn't have a plan so texting is 15cents per message.
I'm 14 and I honestly don't know why everybody texts so much...
If you wanna talk just CALL them..
My friend sent 8,000 texts one month. Though she has unlimited.
Another girl sent 12,000!
You wanna know how many I sent?
TWENTY. :rotfl:
I can't text and be seated let alone driving
The buttons confuse me.

This seems to be a growing problem. I was absolutely amazed when I first saw this PSA program announced: http://www.handsonthewheel.org. I had no idea kids were doing this! Far, far worse than talking on the phone while driving, as it necessarily requires you to take your hands off the wheel and look at the screen. It just astounds me that anyone, regardless of age, can be dumb enough to do this. :sad2:

do why didn't you see her coming;)

Unlike grade-school teachers, I don't have those eyes in the back of my head. My back was to her as I was talking to another student. The student I was talking to didn't warn me that I was about to get rear-ended. :headache:

It's illegal to be on the phone while driving in NYS. Unfortunatly, there are many flaws to this law but it's a good law in theory.

Ok. I don't get texting! What is the big deal about it? Why would you want to punch in letters on an itty bitty cell phone key pad, when you can just talk? Is it kind of like IMing and more than one person can see it? Can't it wait till you are on a computer?

I saw the show too.

My plan has 500 text per month, if we go over (we'd never done that) we must pay .10 cents per text.

I don't allow my son to drive at all. He has a cell phone but he hardly makes calls or text people, I DO check the minutes and text every month.

About the case in today's Dr.Phil, I am sorry, but the Mom doesn't even know what her kid does at all.

She's said that she cannot take the phone away because the girl "got sick"! Give me a break!

Did you notice the big smile on her face :teeth: right before she stepped back out of the way? :rolleyes1

I agree. Both cell phones and driving are a privlege for teens while they are living at home.
