Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

OMG - what a torturous week, except for the new car. :woohoo: Glad everything worked out with that and your were able to get the car so quickly. I love that new car smell!

OK - now I am concerned about your cat? How old is he? Did the lab tests come back yet? I had a cat with hyperthyroidism and her symptoms were - drinking constantly, eating constantly, losing weight (she got down to about 5 lbs), and happy as could be. Then I put her own Tapazole and she didn't do too well and eventually died from CHF (congestive heart failure). She probably would have anyway, but it was strange how she went down hill after I started meds. She was 16.

Yay for a new car & having taxes done for another year! :cool1:

Hope to hear about Ragland Road soon! But it sounds like a crazy weekend ahead!

Yay!!! A new car and taxes filed :yay: I hope you had a glass of wine.
What kind of car did you get?

:faint: Wow!!! You have had a crazy week and are going to be very busy this weekend!! Hope your cat is feeling better
Hope you have some good downtime this weekend. At some point!! ;)

Tracy

All caught up.
I am sure you put that safe key somewhere "safe". I have done that at the BW. I realized after we checked out that I left stuff in there. That was a bit nutty talking to hotel people and retrieving those items but all was good in the end.

Hope the cat is doing better and I look forward to the review of Raglan road.

That sounds like one seriously hellish place to be- except for the new car part! I really hope you can see light at the end of the tunnel!

Honestly the new car part is hellish to me. I can't stand dealing with the whole process. I am SO happy it's over.

And I love my car.

And I survived taking 5 10 year olds to the zoo so that's a good thing. :rotfl:

Granted, they are still running around the house....

Oh my! You've been a busy lady!

Congrats on the new car! What kind did you get?!

Hope everything calms down!

It's been nuts! I got a Toyota Highlander. I LOVE it. LOVE it!

He is about 12.5 The labs did come back and he definitely has hyperthyroidism. Same exact symptoms except he's down to 12 pounds (he was 16 and overweight so the weight loss is actually good but, can't get lower). Problem is that he has/had one nasty looking teat (not sure if that's what it's called on a male cat but you get the idea). It was enlarged, red and black! So we were planning to get it cut off and biopsied and then go from there. However looking at it now...it's just a bit enlarged but is just pink (black and red is gone) so....I'm a bit hesitant to spend 1K to cut off and biopsy somethitng that may be a non issue. there is a "cure" for the hyperthyroidism (radiation) that I'd probably consider if he's a candidate but we kind of have to figure out what's up with the mass (or non mass) first. He's horrible at pill taking so I dread that but may medicate him so we aren't waiting on treating him. Your story gives me pause on that. I have to take him back in this week to re-evaluate the mass (teat).

Very crazy but I'll have some time tomorrow I think. Kids getting picked up soon and then looking forward to a night out with some other couples, should be fun!

Oh My. There really is a lot going on with your cat. I hope he doesn't need surgery on his teat/nipple. Poor thing. And I would think they would need to control his hyperthyroidism a little better before general anesthesia. That's stressful. I hope everything works out well. Good to know they give Radiation now because that's what they do with people. Tapazole isn't used for people anymore, probably because of side effects. R.T. must be easier and have less side effects.

So, what kind of car did you get???

A 2010 Toyota Highlander :)

A margarita! LOL! Friday is for beer or margaritas.

Tracy

I just found out the kids don't have to go to play practice tomorrow :cool1: so just gained a HUGE chunk of downtime. Which will be easily eaten up but then at least I might be able to see the floor of my closet.

All caught up.

So you left the key there but still had stuff in the safe after you left? Thank goodness you were able to get it back.

They didn't seem to want to treat it first if long term I was going to go for the radiation anyway. Originally she suggested oral meds for a month and then deal with the mass but that just seemed odd to me. One isn't related to the other so unless he needed to treat it before dealing with the mass, why wait?

Very few side effects on the radiation which is cool but we'll have to see what happens with it. At a minimum he'll need a lung scan to make sure they are clear before he could have the radiation anyway. She does think it's unlikely that it's cancer given that he's a boy but it's possible. It's just odd how fast that thing got icky looking and how much better it is now.....

Hard though because as you experienced, he's happy as a clam and acting normal personality wise.

He's also got one bad tooth but I just can't justify that $$.

Exactly! That's how Mindy was and I felt bad that I kept delaying taking her to the vet. I thought she was diabetic because those are diabetes symptoms in humans. Then I felt bad that I neglected her when he said hyperthyroidism. Then it was all down hill from there. I guess she had a heart attack from the hyperthyroidism and that put her into congestive heart failure and then I waited too long to put her to sleep and she got really sick while I was at the beach for the weekend and then...... well I still feel guilty about it. If I ever have another cat with it, I will opt for radiation if there's no contraindication.

12 is still fairly young for a cat. Well, its not old as we all know people who have had cats live till they were 18 or 20. If it's kidney failure, that's one thing because its irreversible, but its difficult if its a treatable disease compounded by the other issues - the mysterious nipple changes and the bad tooth. Oy. Keep us posted!

don't be too hard on yourself as it can come on pretty fast and can be misleading. Hank had coat issues (excessive grooming) and I'd taken him in to a different vet last Jan and he didn't notice anything. I was upset as I thought that it was linked and should have been caught then and she said it likely hadn't really been that long.

good news is his kidneys look great but the nipple thing is a wildcard. The tooth isn't really a complication and while It may cause him some pain (he doesn't act like it) I can't justify the cost. Basically one tooth needs a kitty root canal. :( If there was nothing else going on, maybe, but all of this (if he needs the mass removed ) is going to run about 2K. :(
Very nice car!

Yum! Margaritas are perfect for Friday nights :goodvibes

I love my new car! I will not love my car payment but I do love 0% financing...loll the margarita was yummy.

I meant well, really I did! Sadly, despite receiving the gift of no play practice for the kids on Sunday, the time was then taken away by a cub scout pool party I'd forgotten to put on the calendar. Which meant I was left with 2 whole hours this weekend, in my house, to get anything done. unfortunately bills, and cleaning out my disaster of an office, took care of that in a heartbeat leaving no time for an update.

Can I just say how much I'd have preferred to do an update then get insulted by den leaders repeatedly over the weekend?

I need to get over this but I had WAY too much of a certain type of person this weekend and need a week off from Sanctimony.

So.........maybe an update today, I really hope so and seems a fine thing to do on my lunch but work may dictate otherwise. :(

Cynthia, I am sorry that your weekend was so stressful and not a time to relax! Congratulations on the new car and best wishes for your cat! I hope the new week will bring more happy moments with it!

Oh I didn't mean to imply it was overly stressful. It wasn't. Crazy busy and a few individuals I'd like to shake but other than that, there were some great moments :) Stressful only in the sense of not getting done everything I wanted but...that's pretty usual lol!

I hope you have time to do an update soon. No rush - We'll be here waiting when you can fit it in.

it got about half written yesterday before work swooped in and took over, hopefully I can finish it and get it up today!

I just read your update - I get the busy thing! I'm not NEARLY as busy as you though!!! Man, oh man. Kudos to you for still standing at the end of a day. I'd be in the fetal position!

On the update - the cake wearing/falling cake was hilarious! Oh man! Very clever towel creation though, love it!

And how very sweet about meeting up with your friend Julie. I have a friend just like that. We hardly ever talk and haven't seen each other in years, but when we do again - it'll be just like that. Those are friends for LIFE. :goodvibes

Really, insulted by den leaders?!??!?! Seriously? What is their deal?!

Oh I don't know, a toddler would put me in a fetal position, even one as lovely as yours! I'm out of practice, that's a totally different ballgame!

It was wonderful! All of it

I was joking about defecting to another den last night at dinner with some friends (who are in a different one). Hard to do when your son has some best friends in the one you are struggling with and those friends parents are the cause of the problem. It's a LONG story but it was nice to vent to some friends last night and have them agree that I'm not out of line for being upset. In the past 3 days I (and/or Eric) were lectured for

  • not doing sit ups properly
  • not reading his birthday card before opening the present (bear in mind it was in invented secret CODE and there were other kids present, it wasn't like he could drop everything and figure out the code)
  • not being able to swim (well) (and me not being willing to consider noseplugs)

We have another meeting Sunday and I'm not sure I can take it. I need a break. I saw these people 3 days in a row last weekend and the thought of another meeting stresses me out.
