Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

Nice post, Cynthia. Love the carvings and love the pic of Jeff trying to wear the towel creation. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

So glad you got to meet an old friend after so many years. I have a friend like that...you know the minute you see them that no matter how long since the last visit it is as if you just saw them last week.

I DO have an "old" friend just like that- a very sweet thing to have!!! Doesn't ever matter how much time passes, we always seem to be able to pick right back up where we left off.

Being on "schedule" is also a major bonus here! yeah, you missed the afternoon DTD sprawl, but I think you'll get to make that up somewhere else.

Can't wait to hear how dinner was!!

Great post Cynthia! :thumbsup2
I know just what you mean about the freezing buses, we had a few of those on our trip too, it's great when your sweating up a storm, but probably not so much when wet and already cooled off. :scared:

So true! I mean, that's how people get sick! 93 outside with at "real feel" of 103...into the 68 degree meat locker.

BRR!

The carvings are kinda cool, would love to have seen the whole headboard, I'll have to find some pics on the boards. :goodvibes

LOL! I'll try to find a pic. I did much better on the next two rooms, I promise!

Hope your meet went well, and you liked your dinner. I'm so set on eating at WGPE when we're in DDT that I don't even think to eat anywhere else, I'll have to make a point to dine at Ragland Rd next time. It's just so hard when you know an amazing turkey cobb salad and some beyond crazy good creme brulee is calling your name. :cloud9:

Well, it's a totally different experience than WGPE. So I'd think it just depends on what you want. RR is as much about the ambiance and energy as it is about the food. It's like apples and oranges. I love both. But for different reasons, at different times.

We are the exact same way. I try and try to get us places on time we even leave early sometimes, but something always seems to happen.
I try, really I do, but I fail most of the time. It annoys me and yet...I still do it, over and over and over.

:rotfl:

Thankfully Jeff is just as bad so we don't annoy each other.

The towel animals are cute, I hope you found your key. I agree the birthday cake should have had better construction :lmao:.

Jeff was rather upset about it. He got SO excited when he saw it, wanted a picture of it on his head, then on Taylor's head and then....it fell. It was PRICELESS.

You have me thinking I need to bring rum with us in December :rotfl:. It was great you got to see your friend again. I am thinking you went off plan again and spent more time with your friend maybe?

:thumbsup2 for rum and coke! It's funny though, not something we ever drink at home, or even make cocktails at home (the tequila smoothie story on Liesa's thread was NOT our idea) but it's a great vacation drink!

I've never seen a towel birthday cake! How cool! :thumbsup2

Wasn't it! For me, I could feel the magic that went into it, it was really really special. Thank heavens I took a pic before Jeff destroyed it!

I know what you mean about the buses! We've never been to a waterpark, but the few times I've been on Disney buses & stopped at a waterpark, I've felt really bad for the folks with the wet bathing suits! :cold: I wouldn't enjoy that at all!

All depends on how wet you are I guess but it was cold! And it's not a short ride.

I hope you had fun with Julie! I have a friend like that too - whenever we get together it seems like we haven't been apart. :thumbsup2

Isn't that the best?

That towel cake is too cool! I've never seen that before!

I hadn't either, it was a lovely surprise!

:lmao: I laughed when you said that Jeff complained about the construction of the cake! My DH, also an engineer, would have done the same thing!

It was a drink spewing moment for me for sure when he made that comment, it was SO him!

I'm glad you made it to DTD, even if the snack plan had changed! Yippeee for meeting Julie! Where are the pictures!

You know I'm excited to hear your review of Raglan!!!

The snack worked out far better for me where it was, versus Goofys! :rotfl:

Seeing Julie was a gift. I may see if she wants to road trip up again in May....

Very cool birthday towel cake!!! :thumbsup2 Too funny about Jeff trying to wear it!
It was hysterical! Although I think Eric was a little miffed that Jeff destroyed his cake. But...he didn't mean to!

Ah, I do have friends like that! Isn't it always so wonderful to see them? :goodvibes

It is wonderful!

That was a very cool towel cake! I love it!

wasn't it cool? Loved it!

And I understand completely what it's like with your friend--there are just some people who time does not change your closeness!

Great update!

So very true, it is such a gift!

SO fun! That is a great day. Waterpark days, I agree, that just requires getting there. So relaxing. It is understandable that the day started off a little slower than you anticipated, afterall, you had had a HUGELY long day/night/day just before! So I get that! Seems like there will be time to make up what you missed at somepoint!

exactly! You just need to get there, at some point, it doesn't really matter all that much when. I just needed food lol! All was well after that. And not like it was bad before, the key thing worked me up a bit and then it was HOT! Water fixed it.

I have not been on the busses too much, we have always had our car or rented a car and for us that helps to keep us on track. I get that there is always luck or misfortune with the busses, but having it is really such a deal, so eitherway I am glad Disney provides them! It is nice not to fight the parking lots.

Looking forward to dinner!
;)

You know, the buses are really great. Most of the time. It depends on where you are staying but other than trying to get to AK/AKL, DTD or TL, (or somewhere from those locations) it's been great for us. And truthfully, even with that, it wouldn't truly justify a car (or the expense of one plus paying for parking) though I might consider an extra cab ride or two in the future depending on what I was trying to do.

I love the birthday cake towel creation! I have never seen those in person or even on the DIS. Very cool and special. :goodvibes

How wonderful that you got to see your friend after so long!

Can't wait to hear about Raglan Road...

It was wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to get over and check out your TR
Disney buses are always so cold. The buses are my least favorite mode of transportation.
Love the towel birthday cake! So cute.
And excellent timing for Road.
Can't wait to find out if you liked the food.

Fortunately we were not on the buses much at all! I was very pleased about the timing.

I love the towel cake..too neat!

Yes I can definitely imagine how uncomfortable the air conditioning would be in a wet bathing suit...not exactly the most appealing situation.

Can't wait to hear what you thought of Raglan:goodvibes

It was so cool! And that bus was COLD!

Nice post, Cynthia. Love the carvings and love the pic of Jeff trying to wear the towel creation. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It was a riot!

So glad you got to meet an old friend after so many years. I have a friend like that...you know the minute you see them that no matter how long since the last visit it is as if you just saw them last week.
Exactly! It's one of the best feelings in the world.

I DO have an "old" friend just like that- a very sweet thing to have!!! Doesn't ever matter how much time passes, we always seem to be able to pick right back up where we left off.

It's a blessing to have friends like that

Think so huh?

Good update! Yay for before dinner drinks!:drinking1

Always a lovely thing. At least on vacation!

I love the birthday cake towel creation! I have never seen those in person or even on the DIS. Very cool and special. :goodvibes

Very special!!!!!!!

Great post and it made me tear up a little when you were talking about your friend. Super cool towel cake, too!

The expression on your husband's face after demolishing the towel cake...priceless. :rotfl2:

I can't wait to see what you make of Raglan Road, having never been there. :thumbsup2

Just commenting on the Typhoon Lagoon chapter, as I'm not completely caught up yet:

I remember your FB post about the safe karma from California, and I was wondering what the story was! I'm too trusting (or naive), we don't usually use the safe.

Agree with you about the slides at TL being too short and hauling tubes up being a pain. I think I like the set up at BB better.

I'm jealous you got PP pictures at all! We didn't see a SINGLE pp photographer the whole time! And I looked!

Okay, finished up.

I know exactly what you mean about the freezing buses - always when you're wet! I guess that's why they make those 'family dryers' although I didn't see one at TL. I remember last year seeing it at BB and thinking how silly, and totally eating my words when we got on the bus and turned into popsicles!

How wonderful that you were able to meet up with an old friend! I know exactly what you mean - I have a girlfriend like that. We can not see each other for years (or even talk) and its like we just pick up right where we left off. Most of my friendships take more maintenance than that, but with Laura its always been that way.

Love the towel b-day cake! Neat!

:lmao: Can I laugh at your plan? 2pm....on the bus to go BACK to WL? LOL.....you had practically just gotten to the WP. Who cares though - you made it to Reglan in plenty of time!

I say you stay at DTD to visit your friend. 90 minutes is not enough time!

mmmmmm.....coconut rum and coke! Even better. I think I may have some of that right now!

Great update!

I guess with your two awesome Disney resort locations, buses weren't really necessary :)

Nope! And it was a beautiful thing :)

Great post and it made me tear up a little when you were talking about your friend. Super cool towel cake, too!

I can't even say how moved I was to see her.

The expression on your husband's face after demolishing the towel cake...priceless. :rotfl2:

Classic huh!

I can't wait to see what you make of Raglan Road, having never been there. :thumbsup2

Safe or not, you can't protect yourself from everything. Like you, I'm pretty darn naive and have been burned for it. Including on this trip. Still, I'd rather assume the best and be occasionally dissapointed.

That's the second time I've heard that about BB...hmmn...which one should we hit in May if the girls decide to go get wet?

Okay, finished up.

I didn't see those dryers.

Ah, Julie makes my heart happy. I forgot how much till I saw her.

Well...the original plan had us at TL by 10. So if that had really happened...2 would have been doable, though 3 more likely. :rotfl:

What can I say! I wanted to shop. I did know it was unlikely though but thought Goofys might sway kids. Not.

That does sound good right now. Something about the coconut...it's vacation in a glass!

:thumbsup2 Another great update!

Love that you make the nightly BIG rum and Coke a priority.

The towel cake was cute and I know I am in the minority when I say this but I am not a big towel animal fan. I hate having to fiddle with the stickers and crap.

The photo story of the falling towel cake was very funny! :rotfl:

Meeting old friends which you haven't seen for ages is a wonderful thing! :thumbsup2

Caught up. Yes, we've been on some of those "meat locker" buses too. Why do you always get them at the water parks?

That towel cake sure didn't last long, being used as a hat.

darn safe key teaser again, im thinking you are going to get us on this for a few mor chapters.
