I am not much for the freefall type rides. I have enjoyed Tower of Terror at MGM, although it took some convincing to go on it. Is Dr. Doom's similar or is it more frightening?

Dr. Doom is a power shot type of tower. It is totally in the open and you will see everything.

It's different, you get shot up the tower VERY fast and then drop down just as fast and then you get a few shorter up/downs. I do not like this ride, to me it feels like your going to fly out of your seat.

IMO it's far more intense than Tower of Terror. You definitely feel like you're going to fly out of your seat on Dr. Doom -- but it is an AWESOME feeling.

I second that. way more intense, but that much more fun. Try it, you may love it!

We loved this ride! It's definately more intense that ToT. There's a moment where your butt is literally off the seat. It's a real rush. :Pinkbounc

Doom and ToT are similar and different. Doom is shorter than ToT and it's primary focus is the launch. The first 10 seconds (launch and first drop/recoil) are the scariest. The remaining time is you easing back down.

ToT's main focus is the drop(s). Either way, both are intense, yet fun.

Dr. Doom cannont be missed for one reason only: It has darn near the best Queue for any ride with the possible exception of Dueling Dragons!

I have done TOT dozens and dozens of times. Dr. Doom is far more horrifying to me! From the start, queuing up I was trembling. DH and DS talked me into going on this, so I was apprehensive begin with. Listening to the voice over during the queue time I was literally trembling. By the time they pulled the harness down I was a "mess". You are totally out in the open and feel as if you are going to fall. I screamed so loudly and for so long my other DS heard me down below on the street. DH kept saying "Deb, it's ok, open your eyes", well, I did and we were at the top and it was all open that I felt so "vulnerable" that I started screaming all over again. Upon departing the ride, I had to sit down and 'gather myself' before walking again;I was that shaken. At least with TOT you are inside and surrounded by the shaft of the elevator - Dr. Doom is different and you do not feel secure at all - IMHO.

On the bright side, I did entertain most of the riders who were on with us and my family. DS's have never hear their mom scream like that and to this day, delight in telling this story over and over again..........:earseek:

This is just one person's opinion. We leave for Universal in 3 weeks and my family is begging me to try the ride again. NO WAY!

The theming on Doom is incredible. The storyline is good, and the way you enter your seats and sit down and the pre-launch technique is really one of a kind. Once launched, it's WAAY too short though, and I wouldn't wait more than 30 min. for it.
