What can you guys tell me about the hotels in the DTD area? We are thinking of taking a quick trip in the end of august and DVC is sold out on studios when we want to go so I was thinking of doing the unthinkable and staying offsite :scared1:

Please be gentle on me, I'm a DVC kinda girl. It's just DH and I and we like to spend some time :drinking1 at DTD and we would benefit from something within walking distance.

Any advise? Ideas?

My husband and I are planning on staying at the Regal Sun Resort in Downtown Disney. The resort looks really nice and has a new or newly remodeled pool. We have never stayed anywhere but AKL or POP so this is new for us.

I can tell you that they are offering some really great rates for views of Disney for only $99 a night. Might be something for you and your family to check into.

Hilton is the only DTD hotel with magic hrs.
Plus, IMHO, its the nicest of the DTD resorts & directly across the st.
We stay there during Christmas and have never been disappointed.

My sister and her DH stayed at the Buena Vista Palace in June of this year while we were at the Swan. I went to her room and it was beautiful. The hotel was great and a short walk to DTD. She originally checked into the Royal Plaza and was extremely disappointed and checked out immediatley and went over to the Palace and was given a rate of $99.00 a nt. She was very happy with the hotel and the pool area and it had a great sports bar. Hope this helps

The Regal Sun Resort is the closest to Downtown Disney. It is a very short walk to the entrance to DTD.

Be aware that they add a resort fee to your bill even thought you may never ever use any of the "amenities" that it covers. When we were there last year, we paid a resort fee of $11.25 per day. We spent most of the day at the parks, never used the pool or anything else at the resort. We were there just to sleep and use the shower, and we had to pay the resort fee. I don't know why they don't include that in the quoted price as everyone has to pay it anyways.

We have stayed at 3 DTD hotels: Best Western, Buena Vista Palace and Regal Sun. We were not disappointed in any of them. The Best Western was the furthest walk, but not unbearable (first trip and I didn't know any better). The Buena Vista Palace was the nicest.

I stayed at the Buena Vista Palace in May and it was pretty good. The rooms were modern and pretty and the beds comfy. The bus service coming from the parks was not good, but you are just across the street from the Marketplace so it's probably a lot faster to take a DTD bus then walk to the resort. Going to the parks (or MK at least) was better, you're the last stop so you go right there.

I've also stayed at the Hilton and I enjoyed it but there are a lot of bad reviews out there about it. You do get EMH if you stay at the Hilton.

Another vote for Buena Vista Palace.

We stayed there in April and loved it. The beds were great.

We had a "theme park" view and could watch both Illuminations and MK fireworks from our balcony.

We have stayed at Hilton and preferred BVP
