Can anyone tell me what the offical downtown Disney hotels are like? and which one you would stay at? I was thinking of the Double Tree. Thanks!! pixiedust: :thanks: :rainbow: :goofy:

Doubletree is nice, though it resembles of concrete bunker. The Hilton is one of nicest and they also get to use the Early Magic hours, same benefit as staying in the park. Stay away from the Grosvenor (yuck). The Hotel Royal Plaza is newly renovated but suggest a tower Room instead of a garden room.
Transporation is pretty decent depending on the season. High summer holidays are packed, so we drive ourselves into the parks.

Stayed in the doubletree 2 years ago July and we are staying there again in July. Rooms were nice and well cleaned. DW and DDs(11,8, and 7) all loved it, ecspecially the free cookie. Many of there specials offer a free breakfast buffet, which had eggs, bacon, sausage and doughnuts. Transportation was never a problem for us and we took the bus to the parks all the time. pug:

We just stayed at Royal Plaza this past weekend.

The newly renovated rooms are very nice. Great bedding and pillows. We were in a standard room, 16th floor. Giraffe bar was nice. Didn't get a chance to check out pool area. There was a jacuzzi tub in bathroom, great water pressure, nice soaps.

The elevators could use a bit of updating, other than that it was fine.

Oh, and there is a "free", just tip for the ride cab service to run you places.
That was excellent.

Stayed Sat. night of this past weekend at DOUBLETREE SUITES (not Doubletree CLUB) and thought it was absolutely fine...we had three teen boys with us and had 2 double beds (which were as comfortable as any I have slept on in 5 star hotels), a sleeper sofa, and a rollaway which was fairly comfortable also. Very spacious suites and since we used Hilton honors points for the stay, it was a thrifty way to start our vacation. (We are DVC members so moved to OKW for the next three nights). Would highly recommend the Doubletree Suites, especially if you get a good rate!

Is it easy to get to Downtown Disney from there? and how are is there bus service to the parks? :wave2: :hippie:

We have had a car both times we have stayed here but I think the bus service to the parks runs about every half hour or so. There are specially marked Downtown Disney hotel buses. To get to Downtown Disney on foot is a bit of a hike (still probably less than a mile) but is certainly doable. Or is a 2 minute drive.

Ok so which is hotel is the closest to Downtown Disney that we could walk to? Thank you all for the information! :grouphug:

Hilton and Buena Vista Palace are the nearest to DTD. BVP seems a long way up but there was a cut through when we stayed which meant u were basically across the road. It's an easy walk from Royal Plaza, i don't remember the road being sloped really so as long as you can walk for sort of 10mins then you'd be fine. Doubletree and Best western are furthest from DTD, but then nearest crossroads.
