Downtown Disney's Lego Store - What is it like?

Just wondering if it's worth making a special trip over there or not. My toddlers love playing with their Lego Duplos. We have a special Lego store about an hour from our house, but they hardly carry any Duplo sets. I was also wondering if they carry any special Disney-specific items, like they have the Mr. Potato Head accessories that are Disney-themed over at Once Upon a Toy. Those are the best, but unfortunately, I love them more then my kids do, LOL.

Yes! Outside the store they have Duplo play stations (like in the attached picture). Inside they have tons of different Duplo sets, not limited just to Disney ones. At 2 my son had fun. This past trip when he was four we spent nearly four hours at the Lego store because my son loved the car building and racing they had set up.

Thanks! I may need to go back and read some of your trip reports, especially the potty-training one... My twins will have just turned 3 when we go on this next trip. I'm hoping DD is done with her potty-training by then, but I'm not holding my breath on DS. He still has a way's to go, but a lot could change in the next 6 months. In some ways, diapers sound a lot less scary to me :)

I'm going to go the opposite direction then the previous poster and say it's just ok. It's always crazy busy and chaotic. They do have neat sets available, but we have a Lego store in a mall that we go to, so some of them are available there.

We usually make a pass thru there when we are in DTD but I can't imagine spending a super long time.

Just shows how different people can feel about the same place. :)

We don't have a lego store anywhere near us, so it is a must stop for us. DD6 is just getting into lego and also inherited Daddy'd lego from when her was a kid. We went to the one in Downtown Disney at DL and had a great time.

My Lego-loving 5 year old has this as a must do for us. They have areas outside with huge bins of Legos to build. They were also having a "race" last time where kids built vehicles and a CM was having them race down a ramp. There is a special Duplo room inside the store as well.

We did the MYO mini figure. 3 mini figures for 9.99 I think? My son played with those the whole trip!

Traveling with a newly potty trained kid is waaaaay scarier than traveling with a kid in diapers. I was terrified our first trip without diapers but it turned out okay. Good luck!

They also have this giant wall of Legos that you can fill a cup with. Again at three they are too small, but my husband and I have filled four cups trying to see how many Legos we can fit in a cup. I don't have a picture of the wall of Legos (it looks like a bulk candy section but with Legos), but here is a picture of the cup and all the Legos we stuffed inside: image.jpg

We stopped there while spending time in DTD when my son was 3. We didn't go to DTD just to see that store. There were several places in the Marketplace we wanted to check out. We all enjoyed it. I liked watching both children play; but my son? His love for Legos skyrocketed after that. Fortunately our local library had a weekly free hour called "Learning with Legos" that helped out with that. Since then our mall has added a Lego store...yay me LOL!

Thanks, everyone! We haven't been to DTD (Disney Springs!) in ages, and the kids have never been, so I think we will fit this into our trip. Maybe dinner at T-Rex, too!

Do you remember how much it was to "fill the cup"?

We would never miss it but I have a lego loving kid. But, they don't have anything there that you can't get anywhere else (that said, they may have more in stock than you can get anywhere else). I think it's worth a trip just to see all the giant lego sculptures!

Word of warning with all the construction at DTD you have to park at the new West Side garage and walk to Lego store, it's about a 7-10 minute walk. My son loves the Lego store and we spent 4 hours there over spring break last month. Everything they sell in that store in available on the Lego website, not to say it still isn't fun.
If you go get there when they open so the kids can play with less people around. We got there around 9am, built cars for 2 hours did lunch at TRex and went back to build more and buy stuff.

Im pretty sure there are two different sizes of the fill it up containers. We took DS 8 there last year. We rarely do DTD just because it's a bit of a pain to travel there and we end of spending a lot of money there. DS really did enjoy the store and we do live near a lego store. He spent a ton of time just walking around and looking at all the sets. It was a bit cold to play outside for long. He did the fill the cup deal and had a really good time doing that. We did end up spending more there than we intended so just set your limits before hand. We rarely shop at WDW so DTD is not a typical destination for us and it might be years before we return. Avoid week-ends as crowds can be huge.

If anyone in your family likes Lego's, then you should check out the store. Plus, if they don't love it, just a short walk away are the best hot fudge sundaes on the planet at Ghirardelli!

Unfortunately, Ghirardelli sells the worlds most amazing sundaes even if your kids do like the Lego store. Definitely worth a stop. Couple that with an earl of sandwich and you've got yourself an excellent afternoon.
