Is Downtown Disney at DL like WDW? Is there an admission to get in?

DH is in CA this week for a class and found out he is just 15 miles from DL. He want to go eat at ESPN.

No admission necessary. Parking is free for the first 3 hours, and you can get an additional 2 free hours with validation at the AMC movie theater or a table service restaurant (so I'd guess ESPN qualifies).

As for the comparison to WDW's DTD...they both have lots of shopping and restaurants, and movie theaters, but the layout is different. DLR's is not broken up into three sections like WDW's, but rather it is one long continuous stretch. They don't have exactly the same shops, but you'll find clothing, toys, World of Disney, etc. DLR does not have a Cirque show or DisneyQuest, but still offers much in the way of shopping, eating, and sidewalk entertainment (musicians, etc).

That's the info we were looking for. DH is on his way there now. His class doesn't start until tomorrow morning and he so bored right now.

There is even a monorail stop that takes you directly into Disneyland park to Tomorrowland!

They used to charge admission to enter the nightclubs at the Pleasure Island section of DTD, but this part of DTD has been undergoing a major renovation for the last year or so, and I think much of it is still under construction. They also have a Cirque show and DisneyQuest, which each charge admission.

But to answer your question: No, DTD at WDW does not charge admission.
