Downtown Disney ideas for day trip in June?

My sister & I are thinking about taking my mom on a day trip to DTD on a Saturday in June. (My family just returned from a week at WDW, so we're not going to do DL this time. Boo hoo!). Besides, we just want a relaxing day to spend together and shop, especially at the World of Disney, without our husbands asking if we're done yet!

Anyway, a few questions. First, is there anywhere to rent a wheelchair for my mom outside of DL? She has an extremely hard time walking due to her arthritis.

We're thinking about having lunch at Character's. Is this a good place? Or would you recommend something else?

Any other touring/sightseeing tips would be greatly appreciated. We were at DTD last summer for one evening, so I have a bit of an idea what is there.

Thanks in advance!!!

I can't imagine spending a whole day in DLR's DTD--it's not that big. Plus, free parking is only for 3 hours or 5 if you eat at one of the restaurants or see a movie. I've never heard of the restaurant you are mentioning and I walked through DTD yesterday. Are you sure that's what is is called? DTD's only restaurants are La Brea Bakery, Naples, Catal (and the Uva Bar), Tortilla Joe's, Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, Rainforest Cafe, House of Blues, and ESPN Zone. There's no place to rent a wheelchair in DTD and while Disney lets you take their's from park to park, they don't let you take them into DTD.

Oops - Got the name wrong. The restaurant is Storyteller's in the Grand Californian Hotel.

I guess the fun of going to DTD is just for us to be together - I live on the East Coast & my family in CA. We're all Disney nuts and just to go there and just to hang out would be worth it, mostly since my DM wouldn't be able to handle a day at the park. I was just wondering if there is something at DTD that we most definitely should see or experience.

Storytellers is said to be really good. I haven't eaten there myself. Just know that hotel restaurants will not validate your parking for an extra 2 free hours. For me, beyond World of Disney there aren't any real must dos.

Storyteller's is very good. My DD loves the spaghetti and we have also enjoyed the buffet. The breadbasket that they bring out has jalapeno corn muffins as well as other breads. It really is a nice restaurant :earsboy:

I know that my Mom would just love to eat in the Grand Californian, and Storyteller's seemed to be the best choice. I'm glad to hear it's a good place to eat. Thanks for the review!

Is this something new? I've eaten at Storytellers & they have validated my parking before.

I assumed that the hotel restaurants didn't validate DTD parking--I guess they do. Wish I'd known that a few months ago--I could have saved my sis some money.
