We will be staying downtown disney in Oct we have picked 3 hotels. Wyndam , hilton or double tree. I was just wondering if anybody has stayed at them and how was there experience

Wyndham - stayed when it was under another name so I can not vouch for it's decor or service now but there is no way they made those wing rooms bigger. IF I were to ever book there again it would only be in a tower room.

Hilton - closest to DTD, a couple pools - basic but a big area with nice loungers and great relaxing. Rooms are your basic Hilton rooms. If you are high enough for the HH Lounge it is nice for breakfast and snacks. Until Dec 2015 they get Extra Magic Hours. In 2016 that stops. Watch for the resort fee AND parking fee, per day rate jumps.

Doubletree - farthest from DTD but still walk-able. Suites are great layout with lots of windows, table/chairs with kitchenette and completely renovated about a year or two ago. Beautifully done. Smaller pool area but fine for basic enjoyment. Parking fee but no resort fee. Many ways to get the continental breakfast for free.

We've stayed at all the properties there on Hotel Plaza Blvd. and enjoyed each hotel we stayed in. They are not "over the top" Disney as Disney resorts would be of course. Though they are nice properties, all of them and I would have no issues staying or recommending any of them at all.

HopperFan did a good job of describing the three you laid out in your original post, so nothing else really to add other than stating we have stayed at all the properties. As far as rating them from top to bottom (in my opinion) I would go:

Hilton
Double Tree
Wyndham LBV

Stayed at the Hilton numerous times on vacation and with a conference.
The rooms are good, do need updating but you cant beat the location. We like to walk over to DTD to eat. Do add in $24 resort fee and $16-20 parking fee each night plus the tax.

We stayed at the Double tree. It was nice and met our needs. We would stay there again. We didn't spend much time there except to sleep. We did walk to Downtown Disney a couple of times. It's a good walk, but you can always catch a bus.

I can't comment on the Wyndham. I did stay roughly 15 nights each in the Hilton LBV and DoubleTree Suites during 2014.

Hilton Lake Buena Vista: An average hotel with a fantastic location. The ability to walk to Downtown Disney is the main feature. The rooms are quite generic and the food & beverage outlets are expensive. Although I hate generalizations, I'd categorize the employees as "disinterested". Sometimes getting little things accomplished (like having a missing iron delivered to a room or getting a running toilet fixed) takes an hour or multiple phone calls. I only recommend this place if you are a Hilton HHonors Gold/Diamond member (which means you get continental breakfast) or if the room rate including the $24 resort fee is under $100.

DoubleTree Suites: I love this hotel. As HopperFan notes, the renovation on the rooms was well done. The only minor annoyance is the lack of a fan in the bathroom. Although a longer walk to Downtown Disney, you can easily walk over to the Crossroads Shopping area for cheaper food options. The DoubleTree employees are the exact opposite of the Hilton. I've never not gotten a "Good Morning/Afternoon" when walking past a Housekeeping employee in the halls. Getting small things like extra towels get handled quickly. I've even gotten several thank you notes from Housekeeping for leaving a tip. The fact that I have received consistently good service across multiple stays says a lot.
