Downtown Disney hotel transportation?

Considering that the Downtown Disney hotels are located in the Downtown Disney area, I'm asuming that one could walk from their hotel to DTD? Please let me know if that is possible.

As far as getting to the parks, is it the same transportation system as staying in a Disney Resort?

It was a 15 minute walk for us from DTD to the Courtyard by Marriott. I guess we're slow, 'cause others say 10 minutes. The Hilton, Grosvenor, and Wyndham Palace would be closer, while the Royal Plaza, Best Western, and Doubletree are farther away.

The Downtown Plaza hotels run their busses on a schedule, generally leaving for the parks every half hour. They drop off farther away from the parks than Disney transportation. At MK it is at the TTC, and you need to take a monorail or ferry. There is more limited travel to the water parks, and DTD transportation from 6 pm to 3am. We often walked back from DTD. The DTD busses do not go directly to any of the parks. Guess too many people were abusing that. You can go to resorts legitimately if you have a multi-day ticket.
