Does the Build a Bear at DTD have any "exclusive" costumes that you can only get there? My nieces both have birthdays coming up and I thought I might get them a costume that you can't find elsewhere. If they do have exclusives, anyone know what they are?

Yes...there are some exclusive DTD items. I've seen an exclusive Bear (his foot says Downtown Disney). They also have a Mouseketter-type outfit, plus a few others (more and more items do seem to be available outside of DTD at this point, but they should still have a few exclusive items). I also got a announcement saying the DTD Build-a-Bear will have some exclusive 60th anniversary merchandise.

Mrs McN took our girls there one morning while I hit some serious rides. It was through the GCH offer where you can go in before the store opens. The girls absolutely loved it, the bears are still there favourites back home, but boy do they know how to "fleece" you there!:dogdance: Over $200 for the two bears, and that was after Mrs McN got them to put some things back!

Hopefully this year they will be happy with an outfit or two, although I am worried about DD6's you tube obsession with American Girl Doll. And we are spending 2 nights at The Farmer's Daughter hotel just across from The Grove...

I can see where one can easily spend a lot of money at Build A Bear, but as a side note, the prices for the bears and clothing are pretty comparable to what you'd pay at the local mall. I was pretty surprised (happily) to find out that there wasn't a huge mark-up because of the location.

I go to Raise.com and purchase discounted gift cards before we go. Then my daughter knows exactly how much she has to spend on outfits etc.

The discounted cards make the cost much easier to "bear". LOL

The kids can bring their own bears and we can just buy outfits for them, correct? They each have one (or one similar) already. I don't think they need more stuffies... but then that's me - I'm sure the girls will disagree ;)

Yup! It's just like a regular Build A Bear, in that it sells bears, clothes, accessories, etc. and you can buy just clothes if you'd like.

If you have a Costco membership you can get a good deal. Two $50 gift cards for BAB for $80. They used to have two $25 cards for $40, but I guess they changed it. Buying the gift cards could help keep your spending (or your wife and kids') down. Tell them this is how much you have to spend.

Is $100 per kid reasonable at BAB? I like the idea of discounted gift cards, but not sure how much we need. Dd is 7 and VERY excited about BAB. We no longer have a store here in hawaii and her and her friends are nose deep in stuffies and dressing them up.

I think $100 is a lot, but if you read above someone mentioned they spent that per kid easily. I think $50 is more reasonable. You could always save the other card for your next trip if you only have one kid.

Anytime I have taken DD to BAB, it is easily $65+ if she builds a stuffie and dresses it. Of course, she is always choosing the $25 animals.

Just to clarify, the $100 per bear included a regular outfit, a halloween outfit (we were there during halloween time), shoes, accessories, and for some reason, pyjamas. The kids did well...

They were buzzing about it for ages, the bears went almost everywhere with them. I'll try and upload a photo or two once I figure out how to get them out of the new photos app on the computer...

I can't imagine $100 at Build a Bear. I can walk out of American Girl for less than that (including a meal at the cafe for two).

I do have the Mouseketeer outfit from BAB and it's cute, although it's hard to get the Mickey ears to stay on.

For *our* family, $100 would be more than enough! That being said, DD knows there is a "price limit" there. One animal, one outfit, maybe an accessory (though usually not). I don't give her a fixed dollar amount. I think the last time we did BAB at DTD, she spent around $60 (and had 2 gift cards to bring it down to $40, which I was willing to pay, lol).

Thanks everyone! I may do $50 in gift cards and go from there. We travel about every other year so i do want to spoil them just a little, but not go crazy. BAB will definitely not be her only souvenir, that i know. She has plans for a Minnie headband since she only got ears last trip and really wants a headband style. Oh, 7 year old girls :)

and for some reason, pyjamas.

Did you not know that all babies, I mean bears ("But Mommy, they don't know they are bears!") MUST have pjs to sleep in? You must have missed that memo. LOL

We had a catastrophe last night when my daughter (8) realized there we no pjs for Duffy. He's a boy, so he can't possible wear the pink Minnie pjs we got from BAB. "Good thing we are going to Disney in less than two weeks!", she says.

I see some extra chores in her future.

I find that if she knows going in what she is allowed to spend, or allowed to purchase, she does fine.

ETA: I also try to steer her towards the clearance section!

On our last trip I picked up a Cinderella dress and Snow White dress for my 2 DDs Bears. I don't imagine you can find those elsewhere but I'm in Canada and only have 1 BAB within my region ;)

Yikes, $100 for a bear? Well, I actuallt did my Koala (inside joke) bride when I was going to get married years ago, think I spend around $50
