Downtown Disney before flight?

We will have about 8 hours at the airport after our DCL cruise and before our flight--we were thinking of checking in and then doing to Downtown Disney for the day with our toddler and baby. What's the cheapest and easiest way to do that, transportation-wise?

I would suggest renting a car!

The Mears shuttle will take too long each way. Towncars, limos and taxis will probably cost more.
