Question folks.. thinking about a trip to Orlando on a Friday at 8:50pm. If I left work at 5pm, would that give me enough time to navigate through the traffic gridiron that I'm sure will be present and still have plenty of time to catch that flight?

I'd Orange Line it ;)

I routinely catch a 7:20pm flight and always leave at 5:00pm. If 55 is bad, exit and whip down Archer Avenue.

You should be cool.

I'd try to orange line it too, maybe just leaving earlier. It's worth it not to have to pay to park at the airport for a few days and to completely avoid traffic.

Of course, if I had a 9 p.m. flight, I wouldn't care to be at MDW before 7:30, so there wouldn't be a problem with traffic anyway. :) I'd just leave at 7 and voila!

Dont bank on taking the Stevenson/I 55 and getting to MDW in a timely manner on a Friday from downtown Chicago. DO NOT..DO NOT...DO NOT...get off at Cicero or Pulaski. Trust me we live 3 blocks south of Curie HS on Archer & Pulaski..Pulaski between I-55 and Archer is "jacked up" at that time if you know what I mean. Cicero Ave is just a complete mess. There has been a big ramp construction ongoing at Central Ave the last 2 years and Cicero Ave and Pulaski are taking the brunt of the traffic.

I would get off at Damen Ave and go south. you would be 4 blocks from Archer Avenue. turn right on Archer and go west....past kedzie..past 47th/archer..past Pulaski to keeler. keeler is one way going south. less traffic. From Archer and Keeler..go south to either 55th Street or 59th Street. turn right and 55th or 59th cross the railroad tracks and you are home free.

I think if you take my route and get on the road by 430pm or so..you should be ok.

BUT, what part of downtown are you coming from...deep in the Loop...near north Loop or the South Loop ?

Completely agree with Kinggoofy - and depending on where you are coming from downtown you may be better taking Clark south to Archer - and Archer all the way over. The Stevenson is brutal.
