Downside to New Resorts?

What's the downside here? Clearly the smallest resorts....VWL & BCV... may experience a bit more pressure. I'm not sure a Contemporary DVC would actually relieve that unless it has a killer pool.

The other problem if you want to call it that is the removal of the contemporary from pool hopping as well as the removal of both resorts from the Disney Collection.

What else can you think of?

New rooms anywhere in the DVC system will increase the pressure on small-resort reservations at 7 months. That's going to be a fact of life. But they shouldn't have great effect on reservations between 11 and 7 months. I suspect that adding more families to the system might also make it harder to get good trades through II, but someone with broader timeshare experience should comment on that.

I guess losing those two resorts to the Disney Collection wouldn't mean much, since we would be able to reserve them through DVC. Losing pool hopping at CR is no biggie, and we can't hop to AKL anyway, so I guess the only downside is more members in the system. That's a wash too, because more rooms in the system too! ;)

The pressure on the system would depend on the desirability of the resorts in question. For CR and AKL, I'd think they'd be in the high demand category similar to BCV/BWV/VWL. That means less people would likely trade out long term than want to trade in compared to VB/HH/SSR/OKW. If so, it would ease the 7 month demands overall though I doubt it'd be enough to have any real difference and it would depends on the points structure and number of units. I'd think we'd need to add a min of 4-500 units in such resorts to see any noticeable effects assuming the point structure was similar to what we know now. Of course something like EP would go the other direction and make if fare more difficult at 7 months out. In that situation, only 100-200 units would make a big difference on the other side of the equation which is why SSR is having such a large effect.

As for II, I'd doubt it'd make any difference trading in OR trading out. I can't think of any situation that's reasonable that would affect the II trade system one way or the other. Only about 3% of DVC members even trade out. Now if DVC members were allowed to trade directly with II and chose the weeks they want to deposit, that would be a different matter by far. Or if DVC started choosing higher demand times/resorts to deposit.

Two more DVC resorts for complainers to "trash and bash"? :rotfl2: :lmao:

I'm glad we are going to have a monorail DVC! Yes, if you are not a CR owner, you will have a tough time booking a room there and AKL DVC will be an excellent place.

The downside: I'll need to save my pennies to buy an add -on to CR and AKL.

Definitely!!!

but at least the pressure will be off SSR - it will become a real DVC resort - not the newest....

Doubtful, the 7 month pattern of the members there will likely be to exchange out more in the future, not less. Mainly after many have a couple of trips in at their home resort. Plus there will be even more members. Along with HH, VB and a subset of OKW owners, they make up the majority of the 7 month issue. The only way this effect will be lessened is to add many more destination units to the system without increasing the other side. I doubt both AKL & VCR will be enough to ease it up enough to see a noticeable difference. Again, not complaining, just stating.
