Downside of newly owning a TT....

Yep....there is a very lousy part to ownership...

Watching a winterized unit sit sadly all winter long...

(Well, sad for up north-ers anyway....time to find that southern employer or finally have my lottery winner application accepted....)

Trust me, it can be just as depressing here in the South when you watch it sit. Granted, we can dig ours out easier for a quick trip, but it still stinks.

Well, I guess only around 6 months to Memorial Day...




It may be sad down there too, but at least the possibility of getting out seems more realistic....

I'll take our triple digit humidity and temperatures to your 6 feet of snow any day. I was in Minnesota one January and the high for the day was something like 25 degrees below zero. I knew right then and there that I wanted no part of living in the North.

Of course, in your neck of the woods a 2 inch snow is "great weather". Here a 2 inch snow shuts down everything and people go crazy and clean out supermarkets and buy up generators.

Of course, now that I think about it, it's actually good for the economy...

I will say that southern New England is at least a bit better than Minnesota, but not so much that I love it here more than the south!

We kick ourselves on a daily basis for leaving the Orlando area (although it was a real family reason that we did).

I called the RV dealer where we bought the camper to find out at what temp I need to worry about things freezing without being winterized. We are leaving on Thanksgiving Day for WDW and don't want to winterize and then have to unwinterize a few weeks later. Once in a while the north and central can be trying.

You want to winterize before the first hard freeze. If you have a string of days that are at or near freezing and sub 32F during the night, winterize now and dewinterize a day or two before you leave if you need to carry water and just have the heat on at like 50. Otherwise, just dewinterize on the first nights stop (this is what we do on our way south in January.) I am still not winterized, I have two more weekends of use before my local season is done. But I have to keep an eye on temps as we head to thanksgiving.

We make sure to open the water heater plug and drain it. Also blow out the lines with air compressor. When we get back we do above and add antifreeze for the winter.

I dont bother with blowing out, I just use pink stuff before the trip and again on the way home.

Now is the time to start planning and dreaming for Spring! Or getting jazzy for a winter trip!

We just used pink stuff until we got an air compressor, now that we have one we use it - less pink stuff to buy, especially if you go through the cycle more than once a season But I wouldn't buy a compressor just for winterizing. We bought ours so we can keep the tires inflated properly on the Winnie.

I blew out the water with a compressor add antifreeze to the drains, now it is ready to ride out the snow and a quick fill and off to the fort we go at the end of Feb.

I just use pink stuff. But also I only worry if a hard freeze is comming. Next weeks weather is enough to make sure all the faucets are open and low points are open while not in use, but if the hard freeze gets here before thanksgiving I will have to make a trip to winterize it to be safe.

Water heater drained, low point drains drained, faucets open, new cougar has polar package so if temps get to mid 20's for extended period, will turn furnace on to 45 or 50 and all tanks and underbelly will have heat. 22 days until we leave and 25 days until we will be at Disney!

We decided to ditch the tent and bought a new TT in August. Had several trips planned but "life" happened and they were all cancelled. So far - ONE night out!

I have just been watching it sit. And spending a LOT of time tinkering around, arranging and rearranging, and dreaming!

I have it drained and partially winterized but hope to get a few nights before the mountain snows begin! After that - goodnight, enjoy the pink stuff and see ya in the spring!

Same here 4077. We are also in Southern NE (CT) and just picked up our first TT from Pete's RV in VT. Brought it home winterized....
But we are already starting to plan our trip to the Fort for 2016! (I will finally return after about 25 years.)

Been reading about the cold, freezing and winterizing from those living up north. We lived in RI so I understand. We picked up our first RV in February 1989. It was parked in the yard and was winterized. We couldn't wait to put it to use, so I know how you feel just looking at that TT. On weekends DH and I would sit at the dinette and make our travel plans for the spring while we ate lunch and drank coffee bundled up in full winter gear. We even drove the RV to the beach one day, had a picnic and then back home at night.... in the dead of winter (but no snow on the ground). Some things just have to be done. We now live in Florida and are less than 2 hr drive to Fort Wilderness, but we do remember some of the best plans made inside our RV while it was winterized.

Well dang. It looks like I'm going to have to winterize the camper for a couple of weeks. I was trying to put that off because of leaving for WDW on Thanksgiving day. Now Mother Nature decides to throw a cold weather party for 2 weeks, highs in the mid to upper 30's and low's in the mid teens to lower 20's. Original plan was to just turn the furnace on low if the weather got cold but didn't expect 2 weeks worth and don't want to use that much propane in the camper. O well, I'll just unwinterize a day or two before we leave or when we get to our first night stop.

Trailer winterized and ready for the FW in March, then the wife if already planning camping trips for spring. Until then doing some maintenance to the trailer and making sure we have everything ready that we need to pack.
