Downloading USA maps for Garmin

Hi, we're coming from Australia and wanting to bring our Garmin. Does anyone know if there is a way to download USA maps without buying them from the Garmin website?

I really have no idea. But if that is the way your GPS gets maps, then I don't see how there would be a legal way around that.

If you rent a car here, it might come with a GPS that already has the US maps so you might want to call ahead and find out. Then you might not need to bring it.
