Downloading memory cards

I know that I can download my memory card onto a cd for $12.00 at WDW. My next question is can we keep adding to the same cd or would I have to purchase a new cd each time I wanted to download my pictures.

While I don't know for sure, my best guess (just figuring what I know about the technology and what Disney would do to make it as SIMPLE of a thing as possible) is that the CDs can only be written once. There's a resonable chance that if you bring in multiple cards at one time, they might be able to burn them all on to the same CD (assuming they fit).

At this point, by biggest question regarding this type of industry is how do they deal with these newest memory cards that are 1GB or more. A CD only holds about 600MB to 700MB (with 1000MB = 1GB). So what do they do if you bring a 1GB card? Spread the data accross 2 CDs and charge you double? Don't support such large cards at all?

I know that for school I can use a CD-RW and add additional pictures that I take of my students. As long as I don't finalize the CD and can do that.

When burning the CD it will prompt you to finalize, just say no then you can add additional photos. As with the gig card, you can literally take thousands of shots on that card. Why not just sort them at home and burn them there or at a photo store?
I have a Fuji camera and a xD 1gig card and the settings I have the camera set on, I can hold 3200 photos. I will never take that many in one trip.

Careful about making too broad a generalization about these things.
You're assuming that everyone has a low MP camera (or shoots at low-rez).
Although a 1GB card can hold a LOT of images, "thousands" is a bit of a stretch.

Here's the breakdown.

A 1GB card can hold:

853 images at 3MP
512 images at 4MP
409 images at 5MP
320 images at 6MP

A 256MB card can hold:

213 images at 3MP
128 images at 4MP
102 images at 5MP
80 images at 6MP

If any of you have a laptop bring it with you. We did that the past 2 years and it's been great. We go back to the room everynight and download them to the laptop. And start with a fresh memstick in the morning. It's nice cuz you really get to check out what your pictures look like. And if you really need to retake you always have the chance. Also with how cheap you can get laptops now a days it' the greatest way to go. I know this doesn't help your question, but it just might in the end.

From what I read, the Disney download-to-CD service is a bit of a pain. Downloading is going to cost you $12 (+ tax?) and two visits to the store. With memory getting so cheap, do yourself a favor and take extra memory rather than plan on buring CD's during your trip.

Now, personally, I'm a big fan of reviewing pictures in the camera soon after taking them. Perhaps while waiting in line. I end up deleting 90% of my picutres this way, which really stretches out the memory. But I know some people don't like to do this.

They will put up to 120 images on one CD for $11.99. I don't think you can bring the CD back for them to add images.

I would buy some extra memory cards. Also I wouldn't take your pictures at a low resolution if you plan on printing them.

Remember to make another copy of that CD. Store it away from the other cd so you can use it if anything should happen to the first CD. That way you are creating "negatives" that you can always print from.

I wouldn't trust all my photos on a 1 gig card. From what I've read, those cards can go band and then you've lost all your photos. I'd rather get two 1/2 gig cards just to be safe, but then I still d/l my pics immediately on getting back to my laptop (I bring with me).

I agree about not putting all your images on one card. That way if something happens to one card you haven't lost all your images if you use two cards.

If you have a color display or video iPod, you can get the Apple iPod Camera Connector. Basically, it clicks into the bottom of your iPod and allows you to connect your camera's USB cable and import your photos. Backed up my card every night that way on our last Disney trip in July. However, it does use up a lot of battery (you need to make sure your iPod is fully charged) and was quite slow. The upside is that you have gigabytes of storage at your disposal and the iPod is much smaller than a laptop. You can find it at the Apple Store Online and many electronics chains.

I wouldn't trust all my photos on a 1 gig card. From what I've read, those cards can go band and then you've lost all your photos. I'd rather get two 1/2 gig cards just to be safe, but then I still d/l my pics immediately on getting back to my laptop (I bring with me).

In 4 years of digital photography I have never had a card go bad. Never lost a single image.

you just have to be samrt, and know your equipment so you dont accidentally format an entire disc when you dont want to.

I bring my laptop and download all images eachnight.

When in WDW in September, I ran into Expo. Hall to download 3 cards (32MB and two 64MB, I believe). The self-serve kiosks were busy with lines and the cashier towards the front asked if she might help me as I was leaving to originally plan on returning later on. She more than helped me, because she downloaded all three cards onto ONE CD at the register and I was only charged $11.99. Bonus for me...Some Pixie Dust came my way that day!

(P.S. I have a 5MP Canon camera and use medium resolution and all photos fit on one CD without trouble...)

As long as you don't exceed 120 images they can combine cards to burn onto a cd.

Where can this be done? At MK only? We're buying our second digital camera and trying to decide whether to buy 2 512 MB SD cards or 1 1GB card. I was concerned about not having enough space on 1 card as a 512 MB card using the Canon A620 camera will hold about 300 pictures at the second highest resolution setting (we never go bigger than 5x7, so we don't need the highest resolution). We have a 8 month old and a group of family members that will be there, so we don't want to run out of space...

Every park has a camera center that will do this. I think the Contemporary has one also. Eventually they want every hotel to have one.

My camera is a 3.2mp. I was explaining that with the settings I have on my camera I can get 3200 photos. To me that is thousands (as in 3 thousand). I understand that not every camera is not the same as well as the photographer but in my case (as I stated before) I can get 3200 pictures on my xD 1gig card....

Before I got the 1gig card I had a 32mb and 16mb and never had any trouble with them. The only reason I purchased the gig card was so I could take many photos without having to take my laptop with me or go somewhere and download them. As far as having a gig vs. two 512mb: Best Buy had the gig for $87 with $20 mail in rebate and the 512mb was already $67 with no rebate. I saw it as twice the card for the same price.

You have to purchase a new CD every time. If I'm not mistaken, each CD holds 120 pictures; after that, you have to pay an additional amount.
