Downloading digital camera??

I saw on another board that guest services at WDW will download your flash memory card to a cd. Does anyone know if they can do this on the cruise ships? More specifically the Magic. Or are the computers on board equipped for downloading cameras?

PH~ I don't believe the computers in the internet cafe are capable of downloading..you'd have to bring your own computer to download your memory card yourself.

That's what we're planning on doing. My daughter always brings her laptop, and she downloads the pictures when she gets back to the room/cabin.

I don't know if Shutters will download memory cards to a CD...I'm sure someone will be able to answer better.

I don't remember that service last year, but I didn't look for it either. What I did was buy an extra flash card (one was 32 and the other was 128) and I had more than 340 pictures available to take - that was plenty for me! I thinkt he 128 MB card was about $70 on sale at Target - it's a lot lighter than carrying a laptop with you!

I agree with masonpips, just bring extra memory, it's a lot less problematic. And memory doesn't go bad; you can remove it from the camera without losing any pictures. Just don't pack any of it in checked luggage.

No, you do not have a way available to download the camera memory unless you bring it yourself. The Internet Cafe machines are not user accessible, only the monitor, keyboard, mouse.

Might I also suggest that an extra memory card is a lot less to worry about - no way I was dealing with the lap top in the suitcase or carryon or anywhere else. I know people do it all the time but it seems too much like work to me............

Memory can also be packed into checked luggage - It's only "old-fashioned" film which shouldn't be in there. No types of memory-cards are influenced by x-rays.
If you have a high-quality quality digital camera 128 megs don't get you far: I usually shoot up to 400 megs per day, which comes to about 200-250 pics (5.0 Megapixel-camera). I have a portable CD-writer with an integrated card-reader for 8 different types of cards. It simply "pulls" the pics over to a CD and afterwards you just format your cards to have them available again. The writer/reader is about 50% bigger than a portable CD-player (Discman) and costs about $200. It provides you with virtually unlimited storage capacity at a very reasonable price. Additionally you can use it to listen to music or as an external drive for your PC/Laptop.
Another good way to expand your memory is an x-drive: A portable hard-disk with an integrated cardreader powered by a rechargeable battery. It holds between 20 and 40 Gigabyte, is about the size of a Walkman and cost between $150 and 250.

I recently purchased a new Canon G3 and needed more memory. I found that Sam's Club had 256MB cards for $53.00. I have not found any price close to this since.

I think taking extra memory cards is the way to go too. I don't want to carry on my lap top or risk losing it. I have too much stuff with the two kids to worry about. I am so excited that photoworks.com started taking memory cards for developing. My pictures always look beter when I send them to photoworks. They also guarentee they will pay for you card if it is lost in the mail. They sell cards too about the same price as Wal-mart. And they put your pictures online for free. They keep them on their website for as long as you want them there. I still have the first roll of film from about 4 years ago on their website and every roll since then. Technology is so great.

I can attest to the fact that memory cards are not affected by the x-ray. Last Disney trip, I forgot and packed my extra cards in the checked luggage. When I downloaded them to my computer, all the pictures were fine.
