ya know what the worst thing to happen to you at WDW is? Its to get sick.
I had an incident last year and believe me it wasnt fun. Has anybody else gotten sick at WDW?

July 1998 after eating chicken at Fulton's & then Feb 2001 after eating meatloaf & meringue pie at Wolfgang's. The 1st time I felt better within a few hrs. Then 2nd time I was sick for 2 days. It was our last meal at WDW that trip, we were heading to Key West from my brother's house in Miami the next day. Key West wasn't quite as much fun when you constantly looking for the closest bathroom!!!

We all had seafood on the trip down a couple of years ago, arrived Sunday morning at WDW, and DD woke up early Monday AM throwing up. DH went to MK to meet friends, and ended up coming back after trying out all the bathrooms in the park. I joined them around lunchtime. We spent the whole day in bed (or in the bathroom) or in the gift shop buying crackers and ginger ale. It was miserable! But I was glad we were staying deluxe so the room was nice! And mousekeeping was great - they had to come back twice to clean the room and were so nice about it.

Fortunately, by dinnertime we were all better and the rest of the trip proceeded without incident. But you're right - it's a definite bummer to lose even a day, and we so scared it might be something long-term that was going to really screw up our week.

Ah, Yes. Nov. 2003. DS, myself, and DH all got sick on the second day of our vacation. DH got better after the first day. We had to call our Dr. in Ohio for antibiotics and had Tuner Drugs deliver them to our room. I was freezing cold and had every blanket and comforter in the place on me and was STILL cold.
DS was just as sick as me, if not worse as he had been hospitalized for dehydration just a month and a half prior to our trip. In fact, we had to have the on-call physician come to our hotel room, monitor his vitals, and give him a couple prescriptions. We stayed very sick, and the first day we were feeling a little better (4 days later), we changed our flights and headed for home. My thought was that if DS was going to have to be in a hospital again, I rather it be with his physicians than ones I know nothing about.
So, now we are going to try our trip in May since we basically only got to AK. Keeping our fingers crossed that this trip won't be nearly as miserable!

oooo boooy...years ago we did the lua (sp?) @ the Poly. R. & the next day everyone came down with this HORRID 24hr. stomach bug...not fun...

last year my Dbf traveled w/me to WDW & he's one of those people who don't tan, they just burrrnn...he was lathered w/ sooooooo much sunscreen he was like teflon :rotfl: ...dispite the layers of SPF 60+ he was a lobster by the end of the 2nd day and ended up with sun poisoning :scared: needles to say that was NOT fun.
for the rest of the 5 day trip he wore a HUGE wide brimmed hat purchased at AK and I lent him my umbrella bought @ WS/China/EPCOT :umbrella:
we tried to stay out of the sun as much as possible and then we were ok :earboy2:

This dec was my first trip and we visited the gulf during the middle of our vacation, apparently to the lack of our knowledge we were beach walking during 'red tide'. HAHA, I had a giant rashes from my knees down (wading in the ocean) and got a respiratory problem from it. HAHA we where wondering why the beach was empty! haha, So for the rest of our vacation I couldnt breathe and was goooping on Hydrocortisone on my legs. :rotfl: This time Im gonna keep my eye about the "red tide" postings.

We were in WDW for Christmas when Ds (special needs child) and DD (6months) both got sick. DS had a high fever and just "layed around" DD had and ear infection. We were at the Dolphin and we called the front desk and they gave us the name of a Dr. who came to the hotel(You have to pay upfront and then our insurance gave us the $ back) . He was great and tested DS for the flu....when the results came back it was the FLU the real knock you down on your butt flu. He was sick all 7 days of the trip....he never made it into the parks again (we were there for 9 ) I stayed with him. I felt so bad for him...and for us..... 2 tickets......used 2 times....a big huge waste of money. We jsut stayed in the room ate lots of soup and milkshakes and watched movies....He did get better once we got home. He just needed lots and lots of rest and advil. The Dr there called my Dr and they had a phone conference and did put DS on some anti viral type of medicine to lessen the flu. Oh well, we could still llok out the window and see the castle!!!!! We are trying again this July....keep your fingers crossed for us. Oh, DD got over the infection quickly and was in the parks 2 days later with Daddy and her big sis!!!

In 2001, my son starting throwing up at the airport. We thought it was either Dunkin Donuts at 5am or jittery nerves, since we were flying after 911. Got to MCO ok, but was unable to check into our resort. I "forced" my son to hang out at the pool, we were at Disney, but he was not happy. I kept bugging the CMs about our room, because our child was ill - I think we got in to our room about 2pm, after a 2 hour wait.

There was a maintenance person leaving our room, as we were arriving. I asked how can I access medical care - they did not know, other than to push the medical button on our phone. Within 10 minutes Disney rescue showed up. The poked and proded my son, but he did not complain to them - they said he was dehydrated and left.

I still did not feel well, so I took him to quick care, by down town disney. After about 90 minutes there, they said, it has to be his appendix and told us to go to the celebration hospital. So off we go. The quick care called ahead, so when we arrived, they started an IV and fluids, while they were taking my insurance information and copay.

To make a long story short, about 10pm, they said it was his appendix and he was in the OR by 5am.

Everything went well. Disney was very nice to us, once we let the front desk know what what happening. They gave our son so much stuff.

The one thing I was saddened to find out - those with disabilities are often frowned upon by other guests. We had comments about the wheel chair on the disney buses. While our son could transfer and walk without problems, he had no endurance and needed the wheelchair. My son decided that we should stay vs returning hom. My husband had to say many times, this kid had his appendix out a couple of days ago - then people would shut up and look the other way.

Needless to say, we returned to the world with a few months after this trip, so all could enjoy.

I will say, we were advised to go to the Celebration Hospital vs Orlando City Hosp. The Celebration Hospital was soooooo nice. The staff was equally nice. I would not hesitate to return. Plus, I would bypass the quick care. Quick care does not accept insurance cards and we had to pay about $225 before we left. An ER copay is much cheaper.

Last May we were 1/2 way thru the week when my DS who was 6 started acting a little off. He complained of a headache and seemed tired. We decided to try MK anyway, so we gave him some tylenol and rented a stroller. He acted a little sick off and on. The next 2 days we just stayed at the resort and swam and rested but at night tried to take the boat over to DTD. Both nights he complained of a headache and stomach ache. On the way to the airport he tossed his cookies alllllll over the back seat of the rental car. We actually did a good job of cleaning it up, plus we let the car co know. Anyways, we get home and he complains of a sore throat. I look in his throat and he had a nasty case of strep. I felt so bad, if I had known I would have taken him to the Dr and maybe he would have enjoyed the trip a little more. He's usually the healthy one of my 2 DS. My older DS eardrum ruptured a few days before flying down from an ear infection, but he was well enough by then to fly. We'll be going again June 11-18, wish us luck :cheer2: :bounce: :cheer2:

mainelyj, I am happy to hear your son was ok...yikes!!! I know just what you mean about people not being kind to people in wheelchairs. DS is in a stroller type and 99% of the time people are very kind and nice but that other 1% ...oh my! I just can't get over how rude people can be...and out loud!!! We have been yelled at for taking a long time getting the chair secured on the bus,( we now rent a minivan and drive to the parks) we have been told..."children like that should stay home". We have been cut in front of while waiting for characters to sign autograph books (not by children either its the adults), One time a woman said (right behind us....there is no doubt we could hear her),"Why don't they just get out of line and let other people have a turn......that kid doesnt even know who Goofy is, they could just sign the book say it was Goofy and we would all be one person closer". I hate to say it...I didn't say anything...I cried....like a baby...just started to bawl.DD who was 11 at the time turned around hand on hip and said..."boy, you are a meanie"..I didn't make her say she was sorry. I thank all of you who have been kind when you have had to wait an extra minute or two, I thank all of you who scoot down a few chairs so DS can sit in the aisle and I can sit next to him and watch his face light up in the shows, I thank you for the times you have been accidently hit in the ankles when the stroller has moved.......Thank you and to the people who are rude I hope that you never , ever have to be in the situation where you or someone you love is in a wheelchair...Ok I am sorry I am off track here. Being Sick in Disney is YUCKY but the Dr's in Celebration and the Hospital and Turner Drugs are GREAT!!!!!!

Ooh...our family did. Went to Disney with a party of, um, 12 people. Seriously just passed that flu sucker around. 1/2 got it and 1/2 didn't. I was on the "well" side, phew! Every morning we kind of woke up like, "who's next?" I think only 3 people were sick enough to miss out on a park for the day. It must not have been that awful a trip b/c I don't remember it putting too much of a damper on things.

...but as i said, i was on the well side. pirate:

We went to Disney World last May, I ate at Marakesh for lunch at Epcot. I cant remember what I ordered. All I know is by night time (at Magic Kingdom watching fireworks) I wasn't feeling so well. I thought I had it made, we got all the way to our resort bus stop and just before the bus put its breaks on I had to demand a empty shopping bag from my husband to throw up in (rather than toss my cookies on someone's shoes) I proceeded to be sick all night long, I have never been so sick in my life. Finally at 8am the next morning we called and they advised we visit Celebration Hospital.

I had IV's and meds given, they never could pin point what started it, but they said they see it frequently from travelers. I had to stay out of the sun, I spent 2 days in my hotel room while my husband did MGM and Epcot FW without me, and we got an early flight home, it was another week before I could eat normal food.

Im going again this trip, I will eat only foods I recognize and use hand sanitizer at every turn. I never want to be that sick again!!

Last year we went to Disney right after the 1st hurricane hit (we are in South Florida). During the hurricane my nephews had stayed with their parents at their grandparents house with my bil's family too. Both of their girls got Roseola. My nephews got it the day before we left for our trip. My girls were just fine through the first 3 days of our trip but that night were we were moving from All Star to Boardwalk, they started not feeling so hot. Both had very high fevers and were slumping along. So we didn't go to a park the night before we moved. The next morning they were saying they felt a little better and wanted to go to Animal Kingdom like planned and we had to check out anyway so off we went. Made it along the bus drive, out the bus and never made it into the park. They were both burning up by this point and were crying so we immediately went from the All Star bus stop to the Boardwalk stop. We are sitting on a bench with 2 crying girls laying on us and were approached by a driver who called in and drove us straight to the Boardwalk... we checked in and they gave us a room immediately and the shift check in manager was so nice, he drove my husband back to the All Star to get our car and luggage instead of having to mess around with busses. We stayed in the room that day and the next morning the rash showed up, yup roseola too... but they felt good enough to go to the parks, they just looked a little rashy!

You made me cry just reading it, I apologize for the human race that is that mean. I work in animal rescue and it amazes me how mean-cold hearted people can be.

We just had a women email us, she is searching for her dog, who her divorced husband faught for and won, only to dump her at a shelter out of spite. What has this world come to? Why is it that theres an influx of people going to church, yet I am blown away by how rude people are- in traffic, in line, on vacations, everywhere the general public is. Acts of kindness are now considered special instead of the norm.

have you seen the movie clip of the autistic boy on his 1000th ride on Snow White's Scary Adventure? Snow White rides the ride with him herself and commentates on the whole ride. It's a wonderful Disney moment...

I didn't see that clip!! Do you know where it is? I do have faith that all people are good...well 99%....unfortunatly the other 1% tends to be the loud type and momentarily makes me forget about the other 99%. WDW is the best. I can't tell you how wonderful the CMs are to DS (he is 16 and had a stroke....very rare when he was 6 months old...he is a doll) He loves Disney World and we love being able to take him there. I really don't worry to much about the adults...I worry about what they are teaching their children....that scares me. I see how some people treat the elderly, animals, special needs people and I just feel so sad. Thank you for the kind words....if you have an addy for that clip I would love to see it...I am sure I will cry.....I am a big MUSH.hee hee Family always laughs when we leave The Bear In the Big Blue House Show....I just sit and watch David (my DS) not the show, just David and his smiles and laughs........the more he smiles the more I tear up....IT IS THE GREATEST and I make the rest of my family sit through it many, many times!!!!! Again, I thank you for all your kind words. I know you are part of that 99% of people we love to love......

In June, 2002, our family did the land/sea vacation at WDW. We stayed at CBR, then were cruising on the Wonder. Our last night on land, we ate dinner at the restaurant at CBR (now closed), and for the first time I decided to try Ahi tuna. That night, my stomach started hurting. Being a nervous traveler, and never having been on a cruise, I chalked it up to stress. The bus ride to Port Canaveral was the Looonnnngggggeeeesssstt trip! Our first night on board, I couldn't eat, and could barely stand up straight. I endured numerous "are you sea sick?" questions (no, I was sick before I boarded the ship!). Our visit to Nassua included the girls and I swimming with the dolphins while DH went scuba diving. I didn't think I would make it, but I was determined I wasn't going to ruin the trip for the family, so I sucked it up! When I got home, my doctor told me I probably had food poisoning. It took me almost two weeks before I felt 100%! I've told DH I need another cruise to just to see what all I missed! :wave2:

We all got the pukey flu (NOT FUN!) on our November 2003 trip, and then our kids again on our April 2004 trip. :( It's a real bummer when that happens. Also back in October 2001 we all had terrible colds. There is nothing worse than being sick at WDW because you want to be doing everything and can't.

Ugh!!!

During our last trip in June of last year, I came down with a terrible sinus infection, fever and all halfway through our vacation. It was terrible.....I didn't get to even go to MGM, was miserable at AK and had to spend the last couple of days in the hotel room.

I attribute it to getting too stressed out before hand about planning, so this time, I'm going to go with the flow a bit more.

My first trip with Dh (then Db) I got laryngitis-completely LOST my voice. The characters made fun of me-it was funny. He had to order my meals and everything. I got a terrible cold by the last day and was sick in bed for a week after the trip. But he was great-very sweet and has taken me back 3 times since!!! :)
