can you elaborate on this - we are going there in June for the first time with our 2 kids - in your opinion, is the decor not child-friendly?
First of all, I should say we have never been to House of Blues. I thought it could be something like Planet Hollywood, but wasn't sure. I went on the internet before I bought the coupons, and I like their menu and prices, so bought the coupons from restaurants.com. I bought the $50 coupon because there were 3 adults and a child, so I figured we could easily go through a $100.00 dinner. When we got there, there was a 40+ minute wait. We said ok, got the pager and looked around the HOB shop. Some sloagans on the tee shirts were strange, but ok, each to their own. My cousin, who has very liberal views mentioned about them when we left, and I had to agree. Anyway, we went up to the front porch and waited. Looking around, we saw "Jesus" painted on the wall, and something about sex. I thought that was strange, but I pushed my uneasiness into the recesses of my mind. After all, this place has gospel music on Sundays, I'm sure it's ok. We were called inside, after about 50 minutes, to find out there wasn't a table ready for us, so we stood at the door and waited. The furniture the servers use (I'm not sure what it is called) to get their tables assigned had a large cross on it, but it was surrounded by beer caps. I didn't mention it, but tried to ignore it. Instead I looked around at the shoes on the ceiling, shoes around the doors, and figured they were trying for an ecclectic look. But I noticed more crosses and beer caps. It made me very uneasy. The 10 year old we had with us walked around some and came back to tell me about the cross made out of beer caps she had seen. She was shocked. My cousin suggested we leave. Although I wasn't pleased with the decor, I asked her if she was sure. After all, we now had 1 hour invested in this meal. She was sure. She didn't care for the ambiance of the place, and to tell you the truth, neither did I. I have very strong religious beliefs, and when she voiced her displeasure, I knew it wasn't just me. We gave our coupon to a group of 4 who was waiting for a table, walked out and went to Wolfgang Puck Express. I do not regret walking out, and will not be back. The restaurant was busy, but I imagine the kitchen was crazier. I don't want to discourage you from going there. But it gave me the willies. I'm sure others have had great meals there, and love the decor, but it's not for us.
