Hi all
My 16yo nephew was coming with us but had to cancel last minute,.... We leave Sunday! I have just me, DH and DS 16 any ideas that I can surprise them with? We have 7 days at rpr and no car! I would love to take them on a fishing trip but with no car and this being last minute.... Help please! My son is so upset for my nephew but we can't cancel or rebook

Is this urge to add something because you feel they might be bored? I'd just wait until you get there and see how lovely a true vacation can be. If they do get bored, rent a car and do something.

But a fishing trip...just not sure why that would be nice. It's not like you can cook anything you catch, right?

I think you will still have a great time. I took my two kids ages 15 and 14 at the time and we were staying at Hard Rock. They were not exactly the best of friends at the time. They decided the family was not so bad after all. Your post does not indicate your hotel and travel plans. I will tell you that we had a great time as a family and our kids went on attractions alone without problems. My son, then 14, liked to wait in the front row lines of the roller coasters and we didn't. Pool hopping is allowed. Check them out.

Agree with the other posters enjoy being with your son especially since he's 16 and time with him may now be fleeting if he's off soon for college.

We have two teens and love being all together but also love the opportunity to spend time alone with each.

I'm assuming since you are staying at Royal Pacific Resort you are planning days at Universal.

We spent 3 days at Universal with our DD (13) while son(15) was with his baseball team at ESPN for spring break. I got the motion sickness patch to be able to go on those simulator rides at Universal and we had a great time.

Although dissappointing the nephew had to cancel I believe you will all have plenty to do as a family while in Orlando and dont need to plan anything extra.

Enjoy!

If your son truly gets bored, you could look at Greyline Tours. They will pick you up and return you to RPR for an additional twenty dollars per group. I do agree with the others that a week at Universal doesn't seem boring with pools, bowling, movies, and mini golf thrown into the mix. We have an eight day stay coming up in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to just relaxing.

Thanks for your help and suggestions! I was a bit worried that my 16yo would get Restless having to hang out with just us as he was so excited about his best buddy coming. This is our first trip to universal and I just wanted to make it an awesome trip for him. Sounds like we have great options! I didn't realize we could pool hop! That's awesome, and it actually snowed here in Ontario yesterday so that alone is golden! Thanks so much

7 days at RPR is a fantastic vacation. You will have enough time to do nearly everything. Here are a few of my ideas to keep things interesting.

Try something new. Plant the seed in the morning, like "let's do sushi tonight." Then if your DS wants to go to the parks alone, fine. Meet back up with the anticipated new meal.

Make a list of all the rides, all the shows, even the kiddie rides. Then try to complete them all in the week, touring together.

Pool hop. Take a midday break each day. Then use the onsite transportation system to go explore another resort. There are five total (you can easily walk to one of them). There are dining options and pools at all of them. Doing 'new' things together will make great memories.

There is bowling (great indoor activity if it is raining) and two different pools at Cabana Bay.

There are two mini-golf courses at CityWalk.

Let your DS out alone. He might want to do something by himself (especially if mom and dad won't do coasters etc.) He can come and go in the parks all he pleases. He is too young to pool hop alone, though.

Have fun!

Great ideas! Thanks so very much! I've been reading more about the hotels and I think he will love to explore all the pools! Also being able to come and go at the parks is a huge deal! I thought once we used our Explorer ticket it's a one entry thing. But we can break up the day at the pools! He loves rides but DH gets super sick even in the frigging car!
Thanks all!

My kids were never bored as teens and we typically stay 10 nights onsite. We generally valet our car when we get there and never see it again until we are packing up to leave...

... and we love it that way.

Hello ! I have an only child who is 15 now, Up till last year we didn't take a friend but we are able to the last year and this year. Honestly, we pushed her to make friends at the pools. It turned out on our Disney trip two years ago we met a nice family at the resort and decided to hang with them a few days. It was great our DD met some nice friends as well as us. Enjoy we are going back in late July and can't wait. Enjoy!!!
