I would like to get a down or feather pillow for my Mom. She is currently fighting cancer and I was hoping this would make her more comfortable, but don't have the first clue about pillows. I plan on shopping this afternoon so any help would be appreciated.

Someone sure is chatty today...2 threads on page 1...;)

No one has these type of pillows????????????? I hear they are messy is this true?

I have a feather pillow and I don't think it is messy in any way. I did buy a cover for it, not sure if that makes a difference. As far as the pillow goes I don't think I can be too much help, I just picked it up, tested it out and bought it, sorry. Maybe someone else knows.

Does she have allergies? I can't sleep on feather pillows because of mine. I wake up congested and all stuffed up in the morning.

I'm like EvilPrincess, my allergies KILL me if I am near down comforters, pillows, or featherbeds. Which stinks, because they are super comfortable. :(

I have seen comforters with 'synthetic' down which seem really nice and cozy, I wonder if they make pillows out of it too.

I'll try to remember the site where I saw the synthetic comforters.

Best wishes to your mom. My MIL just started chemo on Monday. :(

I would not do it with seasonal allergies. I can't even be in the same room as a down pillow or comforter (I've had issues in fancy hotels). I get headaches etc.

I have a down feather bed, down pillow and down blanket, and I LOVE THEM!! My mom sells down products, so that's where I got mine.

I do know, from my mom, that you should pay attention to the percentage of "down" that are in them, as a lot of the less expensive ones (and some expensive brands) include a large percentage of feathers which aren't as comfortable..... sometimes the shaft pokes out of the pillow.

Anyway, if you have any specific questions you want answered, PM me, and I can see if my mom can answer them.

Can't help with feather or down pillows - we have allergies in our family. I can suggest an alternative though. I had neck surgery a few years ago & have searched for a comfortable pillow for years. My parents gave me a thermofoam pillow a couple of years ago. I can honestly say that it changed my life. I've never been more comfortable. It goes everywhere with me - even WDW.

Good luck & pixie dust for your mom.

My Dad has a feather pillow. The feathers come out of it and end up on the bed. My Mom actually had the sharp end of the feather stuck in her head! (Gives me the willies just thinking about it!) She had to call my Dad to come home form work and pull it out.

My IL's have down pillows and cannot sleep without them. Personally I feel like I am suffocating on those things! LOL! :)

I have both feather/down pillows and comforter. I absolutely love them. I did have to recently recover the pillows. They were given to my grandparents as a wedding gift. They were married in 1912! I don't know what the presentage of down vs. feathers is. But, I have never had any problems with feathers sticking out until the ticking wore a bit.

Hopefully, she isn't allergic to feathers. When I had allergy tests, they did test me for feather allergies. Fortunately, that is not one of my allergies.

Please give your mom a hug for me and tell her I wish her well!
