I just booked the Doubletree for our June trip - we have reservations at POP but are looking into canceling them. How is the bus transportation from the Doubletree. I noticed that it says 'self parking' at the Doubletree is $8.00 - is that correct???!!! We will be traveling with 2 grandchildren ages 11. We have stayed at POP many times but thought it would be nice having the extra space. Any thoughts -- good or bad would be helpful.
Thank you ---

I just read some reviews on it at tripadvisor. I was thinking of booking it for two nights with the new hot deal from mousesavers.
It seems like a nice hotel, but there were some complaints about the transportation. You'll have to read it.

We stayed at the Doubletree for two years in a row (April 2005 and April 2006), 2 adults and a toddler. We really appreciated the extra room!! Our daughter was at an age that she couldn't sleep in the same room as us so it worked out well. If you need the extra room and you're looking to save some money I think the Doubletree is great, especially if you get a good deal like they're offering on Mousesavers right now.

The two years we stayed there we didn't have a rental car but we walked a lot to Downtown Disney (maybe about a 10-15 minute walk) and to Gooding's supermarket and restaurants in that plaza. (about 5 minute walk, but need to cross busy street). We're from the city and used to walking to restaurants and shops, so it was really nice to be able to walk places for dinner or shopping. Plus, the walkway was safe, quiet, clean and perfectly landscaped! (One of the many, many reasons why I love WDW!)

The transportation to the parts was adequate, but not great. We waited a long time for buses and the drop-off/pick-up areas at the parks were kind of a long walk. It was fine for our needs at the time, but we didn't try to make rope-drops, stay at the parks until closing or go back to the hotel for breaks during the day.

That said....last spring we stayed on property and it spoiled us for anything else!! :) We'll probably always stay on-property from now on.

Have a great trip!!:)

PS> I just read this through and I assumed that you were asking about the Doubletree that is on Hotel Plaza Boulevard by DTD?? Hope that's right...

Just stayed there last Aug with my fam of 4. No complaints overall. It was a basic hotel that had nothing with any paticular wow factor. I also was weary of the parking fee but was never actually charged. I think at the time I got a deal for $81 a night and for that area i thought it was a great deal. I would pay that much more for this place and would not hesitate to stay there again.

I stayed there 3 years ago and it was nice. I had a rental car, so I didn't use the busses. They didn't charge me to park, but they had a fee posted. I would stay there again.

Thanks for the info. We are still debating on which place to stay - Pop (with the AAA discount) or Doubletree (with the Mousesavers code). We love staying on property - put tempted to go for the extra space. If we stayed at the Doubletree we would rent a car - but rentals aren't cheap!!!! Would be nice if they didn't charge the $8.00 parking fee - seems kind of high!!?? Will toss it around for awhile --- we have until June!!

We stayed at the DTS at DTD last May and loved it. We had a rental car which we used for Seaworld and Aquatica, but used the hotel busses exclusively for the Disney parks. We would get the first one to the parks in the morning about 8 a.m or so and never had any problems. I think they come every half hour or so on the return, but we were fine and we had a 4 year old at the time. We got a Mousesavers rate that included breakfast last time (which was great by the way) and are going again this August to DTS with another great Mousesavers rate (including breakfast) for $79 per night. The Doubletree rooms are huge, exceptionally clean, have a fridge and kitchenette area, the extra space with couch and table with 4 chairs and offers so much more compared to the Disney value resorts - there is no question as to which one I would choose. We were totally happy with this resort. There is a rental car office located in the lobby if you do want to rent a car while you are there also.

Good luck with your choice and have a great vacation.
