Double stroller or single with glider?

Hi! I will be traveling solo end August with my 2 DDs (7,4). I have already rented a single with the glider but am wondering if I would be better off with a double? I never owned a double so do not know what to expect. My 7yo would probably just need to somewhere to rest which is why I thought the glider would be a nice for her to get on and off if need be. However, I don't know what would be easier to deal with alone on the buses or maneuver around...a double stroller or a single with the glider?

Thank you for your help.

Have you ever used a stroller with a glider? I bought the glider for my city mini (which is what I am assuming you rented, as that seems to be what all the rental companies use) and ended up returning the glider. It was not comfortable for me to push the stroller while my at the time 3 year old was on the glider. I imagine it would be even worse with a 7 year old. There was not space for her to stand and me to walk, she was in the space I needed to use.

I personally would just get a double stroller. I rented one last week for our Disney trip and my 6 year old fell asleep in it every night. Definitely glad I had it.

This is what I was concerned with (walking with her on it). Did you use the double on the buses?

Your 7 yo will be fine. My Oldest DD is 9 now, we had a double the year she was five and she rode in it and even fell asleep in it once. When she was 6 we just did a single for my youngest, but rented the oldest a single the night we went to MNSSHP figuring she'd need it since we were going to be out so late. She never sat in it at all and stayed strong till well after midnight with no issues. She was done with strollers at that point and we never looked back.

I did use the bus. The trip at WDW where I had the double my kids were 8 months and 4, and I had my mother in law with me to help. This most recent trip was to Disneyland, and my kids were 6 and 2.

When I'm at Disney I have other family with me, but I fly alone with my kids all the time. This past trip I had to drive myself, park and take the shuttle with both kids (6 and 2), the stroller and 3 suitcases. I had the kids hold hands and wait on the bus while I loaded all our junk on, then I had them hold hands and wait on the sidewalk while I unloaded all our junk. I would do the same if I was alone at WDW. I would make sure all our stuff for the day fit in one backpack. I would have the kids hold hands and get on the bus ahead of me while I carried the stroller (it takes 2 hands). Then I would have them get off ahead of me and hold hands while I get off with with stroller. Probably a little stressful in the immediate bus situation, but totally doable.

Thanks for the tip. I will make a decision eventually. lol DD7 hasn't used a stroller since her sister was born (she was 3). DD4 rarely uses it her either. I think I'll be ok with the single. I'll keep the glider and see how the week progresses. We plan on doing late nights towards end of trip so it may come in handy. If not, no biggie.

I would think the double would be a pain to fold and unfold for the bus. I know the citi mini doubles are quite heavy. I might be very tempted to rent one in the park. That way you would not need to worry about it on the bus or boat.

Ooooh....I didn't know RENTING a stroller with a glider board was an option. I didn't know glider boards could be rented. NI thought I would have to bring my own stroller because ds (5) gets tired but won't sit in the stroller - and demands to be carried (he has autism so can't really reason with him), but loves the glider board. Dd (6) will gladly ride in the stroller

I rented from Orlando Stroller.

I would get the single or rent a double in the parks. I wouldn't bother with a double alone with buses, etc.

Sticking with single for DD4. She's fine walking but the heat may play a factor in her wanting to ride. We will take extra breaks so DD7 and I can regroup from the heat.

We have one kid and I use a double with a glider because I have a big purse :lmao:
Our last trip we averaged walking 15 miles a day. I always strongly recommend strollers for kids. Heck if it was bigger, my DH would have crawled in!

LOL I would love to have someone push ME around for a little while.

I just have to say, I am in the same boat, I will have a 4 year old and a 7 year old on our next trip. I always hear people comment that older kids don't need strollers, maybe theirs do not, mine would. My youngest will tire very quickly and want to be held and if she is getting carted around the 7 year old will want to, also. DH will even roll his eyes about bringing the double BUT he's not the one who ends up having to cart the kiddos around! If I didn't have it my girls would be whining that they were tired and Disney wouldn't be as enjoyable for me. Plus, our double holds a lot and we saved a bundle by bringing a cooler into the parks. So, just in case you needed some support, you are not alone, I'll be hauling a double around the parks, also. I know everyone will be a lot happier as a result, too!

for that age I would just wing it and if 7 year old gets tired, rent a double in park. We kept my 7 year old niece our from park open to close last summer and she did fine.

At 7, I would have been embarrassed to use a stroller.

Ultimately I will be alone and am just trying to find the easiest way to handle the heat. My girls and I walk around town and although not the same, it at least helps. My 7 yr old hasn't used a stroller since her sister was born (she was 3) but who knows if she will just need a moment to regroup? I think we will be ok with the single.

Good thing my 7yo is like me...doesn't care much what others may think. :D Not all kids are created equal. I think she will do fine, but again, being alone, I'm trying to cover my bases.

Our last trip we had our 7.5 year old, 4 year old, and 3 month old and we took 2 strollers and a carrier for the baby to use several hours a day. My 7.5 year old was thrilled to get several hours a day in the stroller. It's a ton of walking! She did pretty good this trip....at 6.5 she really needed the stroller much more. But you know your child... For my family we are open to close people and want everyone to stay happy and not complain. We always plan one sit down meal with air conditioning that helps us rest to get through the rest of the night. My child was never embarrassed by the stroller! Plus when in a hurry to get somewhere fast strollers are nice! I would do a double if its just you. When it's me and my husband we choose 2 singles. Have a great trip!
